The govt hate to see people with a bit of freedom
This is it in a nutshell! The Government is NOT on our side. They have a plan to steer us in a certain direction and are making sure they cut off all the 'escape routes' (van life being one of them). The 15 minute Cities are the plan for all of us, all well documented and even being trialled in certain areas.
Its the youth in their cars at night that dump all the crap in car parks etc especially Mcdonalds packaging
Exactly...and that's been happening forever too.. and the ones who drive and tip maccies litter on the way home... disgusting

The UK’s attitude in general towards motorhomes is behind the times; France and Spain put us to shame with the facilities they offer!!
UK councils are neolithic in comparison. They just don't get it.

Hi James, I always used to fill up and move to the side before I paid in the petrol station until one day in Lewisham (London, I live close by) this bloke who worked there came charging out being really aggressive accused me of attempting to drive off without paying. He pushed me so I decked him, ended up in the police station accused of assault and bailed to appear at court. When the police finally reviewed the CCTV from the petrol station the charges were dropped against me. When I told the police "Right, you've dropped the charges against me but now I want you to pursue charges against him". They said "Oh no we can't do that he works there, that's the price you pay for being polite". Can you imagine, You can't win James
That was one over keen employee! I, forgetfully, drove off without paying one day, I realised when I was nearly home 20 miles away, I phoned them and they said don’t worry, pay when you pass by next time. When I paid the next day She told me that they dont actually do anything to people who drive off, the licence plate is sent to a debt collection agency, and it might end up in civil court if you don’t pay, and the station has insurance. I find it difficult to understand why an employee would confront you.

Government are coming motorists 1. Pay per mile 2. Extra vehicle tax. 3. More Parking restrictions for motorhomes in city / towns. 4. Servaillance cameras/speed cams everywhere.

I press the button for safety reasons as me, on my mobility scooter,
and my (pain in the) Assistance dog need to cross the road safely.
A variation of this is when you press the button when there's a lot of traffic and the lights only change when the traffic has cleared! It should change straight away otherwise what's the point.
As a newbie motorhomer I have two pet hates…
1) as an early thirties female driver, some people are amazed that I can fathom how to drive a vehicle of that size
2) the know it alls (I know they’re only trying to help) who can’t wait to tell you the club etiquette when you have literally just pulled onto the site / pitch

HIM!! Rant away.....love a good rant! Years ago I did a small bar job. One of my first customers was an American. He barked at me "Give me a (whatever his choice of drink was)" . I ignored him and served someone else. He was perplexed as to why I hadn't served him, so I explained that I would serve him once his request included the word please!! Politeness and kindness to others costs nothing. Have a great time celebrating Helen's birthday pressie stay in Pickering. 😊

One thing that grinds my gears, when a Plane lands, people get out of their seats, get their Baggage and then block the isle in one massive Conga line because they can't go anywhere for 5 minutes until the doors are open, then proceeds the awkward moment where sat in you seat, your head is level with arse...
.. and they're in the same queue as us at the bag collection :D

I live in my van full time,, I can't afford campsites, it would actually be cheaper to rent a flat than to stay on campsites.

I was cycling on south cliff Scarborough ( Just past the Italian gardens by the clock tower) 6 AM and saw this big Hymer motor home just pull away and out popped a black bin liner of rubbish from the passenger side which split open, most of its contents were McDonalds and Greggs packaging, wine bottles and lager cans.
That one action just tars all motor home owners with the same brush, so locals are bound to be pissed off, that spoils it for the majority which are fine respectful and do spend money in the places they visit and leave no rubbish.

People complaining about vans being unsightly they need to take a close look at some of these places where people are camping out in tents. I just watched something on UA-cam where immigrants/travelers are camping out in affluent places such as Mayfair in London. They’re using the bushes and in between parked cars to go to the bathroom. Tell me that that’s not a health hazard and not a thing is being done about it.
It's because they are homeless and to be fair better to be homeless in Mayfair than Tottenham.

Rant - Parents that don't control their kids ( volume and shouting /shreaking) because it's about letting them express themselves!
I agree, I was sat outside a cafe this afternoon, and somewhere there was a kid screaming its head off, drove me nuts.
Screaming. Kids in supermarkets but not one year old,3,4,5 year olds,those parents who give them unpaid sweets to eat,just to shut them up.my parents would tan my arse,even for touching products in a supermarkets..
To clarify I'm not talking about babies it's the kids up to teens

One of the best signs i have seen was in West Cornwall. in the window of the last cottage that has the footpath leading to the beach has a sign saying " no, we don`t know where the beach is". Logan Rock.

They then send the council clear up teams in to sweep up the mess that’s left
All out of the local tax paying coffers

Pet hate...People who let their kids run around unchecked in supermarkets. Playing tick, jumping around every bodies trollies, generally pratting about and their parents do nothing.

Bad manners! Saw a little lad this morning on his bike whilst out walking who said thank you when I let him past, made my heart smile 😊 And worst of all the word “like “ in every sentence!

Something I’ve, like, noticed, like, recently, is how often someone is, like, explaining something and I, like, stop listening and, like, count the number of times they, like, say, like.
Ey up James. 'Him' I hope Helen likes it. I usually let my missus pick my aftershave just to be on the safe side.
My rants which you might want to discuss are:
1. People who leave their dog's crap on the pavement and don't pick it up.
2. Knob heads who bag up their takeaway packaging then lob it out of the car window in the middle of nowhere and there being very little chance of it ever being picked up.
3. Lane changers who suddenly swap lanes all the time on motorways just because one lane is moving a bit faster than the one they're in.
4. When you take your car to a garage or supermarket to give it a jet wash and the last person to use it has tangled and tied the hose in flaming knots and if you don't untangle it before pressing start you end up trying to straighten it out instead of washing your car/van.
6. BMW drivers who don't know how to use an indicator switch.

I always pick up after my dog but then you see where another person hasn’t and then every person I see after that I feel like they’re thinking it was me and my dog. I usually find that the Mercedes drivers lack the desire to indicate in a self privileged snotty manner,. BMW and Audi drivers are becoming one of the same when it comes to speeding and general aggression and I think it's starting to catch on to the Skoda drivers with similar sized saloons.
Cyclist taking up the most of the road width and pairs side by side in conversation is a blood boiler.
Irresponsible dog owners that let their muts off the leash to crap everywhere and anywhere on nature walks, especially in reserve areas.
The stubby female neighbour that looks like Winston Churchill with 3 yapping rats that she takes to piss on the grass on the street in front of my house 3 times a day. If I'm not careful, I might curl one off on her doorstep! I've heard she's a social worker so i guess that explains things...

What annoys me are people( sorry to say , seems to be mainly younger generation) who always have to have 2 seats on trains or buses. They then put ear phones in and stare out the window or at the floor. If you have the nerve to ask them to move bag which is on seat number 2 they always look as if they’re doing you a big favour! And don’t get me started about people who put their feet up on trains or buses!!
I used to think someone living in a van was same as a homeless person, and groups make it look like a shanty town. But I think over the last 5 years or so it's changed during covid it became widespread. Now I look at it as great just normal people our country should provide more services for them. They spend alot in different areas and on their vans and should be welcomed. Only UK tries to ruin anyone's fun put rules and crazy parking charges. But the shops are closing down. Our country is completely mad.

Supermarkets and petrol stations do not go together in the same place. Pay for one at one place, pay for the other at another place.

I was just screaming at the TV about ‘can I get’ - it completely does my head in, it sounds like whatever you want you are asking to collect it yourself 🙄 one of my pet hates is when you phone up to complain and your issue isn’t resolved and they end the call with, can I help you with anything else today - you haven’t helped me 🙄 one more thing that really irritates me is the staff in TK Maxx always say “would you like a bag today” - no, I’ll have one next Thursday 🙄 loved your rant, one a week please 👍

Hi James. I live in a town on the "other side" among the long necks. Moved here in '99. Used to drive into the town centre two or three times a week and always used a council carpark, mainly in an effort to help put revenue into the place. Would spend +/- a tenner a week on parking (say £500 a year in total at "then" prices).
In 2003 i was literally two minutes late back to my car to find the ticket had been written and superglued to my windscreen. The traffic warden was walking off and already about 100m away. Ticket must have been written before the time was up and slapped on, to the second. Absolutely no leeway. Paid the 30 quid, like you do, but I've never parket in a council carpark since... and never will again. 21 years... And now the town centre has tumbleweed blowing down the high street 'cause most people, probably victims of the same scam, shop out of town now. Councils with their short term vision and unreasonable greed are their own worst enemy.
*Long necks... Lancastrians peerin' ower't Pennines to see what's happenin in God's County.

Had a numbty years come up the side of me at a junction in a Ford Orion, waiting for the lights to change, revving up and staring at me on my little 100cc Suzuki. Lights changed and I left HIM behind 😂

I’ve recently bought a vw camper, and it wasn’t until I started looking into campsites and parkups that I realised how this kind of leisure activity has exploded over the last few years, The trouble is the one per cent who abuse it will completely kill off any parkups . Campsite prices have gone up but so has everything ,you can’t seriously complain about prices going up when you choose this life , people with mortgages who have seen a significant rise in their mortgage payments just have to suck it up and take the hit ,I don’t think anyone would be jealous of van lifers , but when a family turns up in a car to park on the seafront but can’t get parked , I can see why people would complain , there does need to be some regulation

I have a rant for you, about those dangerous , flying scavengers Seagulls and Kittiwakes. We live in a town near the coast and they are a damn nuisance, also the people who feed them. Holt,Norfolk, high street 6pm to 8am free parking ( coast expensive and has barriers).Loads of campers have parked up outside our flat.Noone bothers you,probably because noone lives here ( except us) or its mostly holiday homes 😅I often see Stealthers parked outside including bus and lorry drivers.I love it because I love to see the freedom of it and admire the awesome camper vans.I don't drive so I'm biased towards living on a boat one day.But told other van life You Tubers too.Safe here.Good luck😊

Makes me so sad as I am disabled and my walking is very limited and when there is no disabled bay I can't go into the shop as I need the wider space to open the door wide also people truly don't see how lucky they are been able to walk sadly people will always abuse the disability badge or just park in without one because shops don't give them penalties for doing it ok my rant over..

Travelling home from work at 3 and 4 in the morning along the deserted M1, it's amazing how many drivers sit in the fast lane with no other car in sight.Unfortunately the same Nesbitts use petrol filling stations.

I only go to petrol stations that have pay at the pump, for these very reasons

Great vid James. I was literally ranting early today about people with phones on loudspeaker. Boils my piss. My other hate is self checkouts. Not so much the checkout itself but my local asda has so few staff monitoring them that people are queuing down the aisle because everyone's waiting for a carrier bag, or their alcohol to be approved, or theyve got too many paracetamols, or a cabbage with no barcide on it. Grrrrr.

We have a small town near us here in Tasmania that has lots of tourists. The small supermarket there has set aside an area behind the shop, for overnight parking for vans. Oh James, you are starting to show some age. We are already there being in our 70's. A little less tolerant but still polite. Have to remember we were young once. However, we never felt "entitled". The word this week is "HIM". Perhaps Helen will let us know if she likes it. ❤🇦🇺

A common word that (mostly younger people) start every sentence with is "so" for example "what are you thinking of doing today?" answer..." so I was thinking of going swimming" - or what ever...why do they have to prefice everything with "SO"????

In my opinion it’s nothing to do with the mess and how the Vans look and how people behave etc, this is more to do with B&Bs and Hotels being protected.
I think it’s short sighted not to build a special park up for motor homes.
Bans never work and are more detrimental to the wider business community.
Hi James. Petrol stations wind me up when you stand there for ages waiting for the pump to be activated and you can see the assistant stacking the shelves.
Petrol stations are now holding drivers to ransom, it's like you can't get gas now unless you want to spend a fortune and people need to protest the high prices by supporting your locals stores in regards to getting your food. These petrol stations/supermarkets are only going to keep raising their prices on food. I'm not joking, one gas station that I arrived at charged 6 euros just for a fcking sandwich:? It's like 5 euros 55 cent for a small block of cheese and 5 euros for 8 small sausages. This is what people get when you stop shopping at your small local shops and you start supporting big supermarket and gas station chains. Just buy gas because you need to but get your beverages and food at small local stores.

Me and my mate used to go to Llandulas beach and spend the night in his campervan. At six o'clock in the morning this man in his car used to drive past beeping his horn to wake everyone up. We wasn't paying anything to be there and I think he didn't like it 😂.

Now then, I live in Scarborough and I can honestly say that the amount of time I’ve got up in the middle of the night and not been able park on North marine to complete my night’s sleep is zero 😂

It's generally just nosey local people who think they are above the law, having a bit of troubled time with a couple of my family members at the moment, are falling out with me at the moment because I've changed my lifestyle , working less than I used to, and guess they see that as a jealousy thing, but I've earned the right to change and have earned my graft. But it's my life not theirs , also you are right with those signs being out up crazy

Good tip ife used once keep some long cable ties in your car and lock an empty trolley onto one of there door handles.Stand back and watch the fun.
Isn't Public land, Crown land in UK? The Monarch vest the management to the Shire, but that doesn't mean they own the land. Also residents don't own the land in the Shire, unless the Shire buys land for the Residents exclusively.
Love your videos James, but I’ve noticed you’ve done one of my pet hates recently a few times… British UA-camrs who use Americanisms 😂
I can’t stand British people (usually young UA-camrs) who say “Off of” “Thirdy, Fordy, Pardy” “A ways to go” and the one I’ve heard you say James… “ANYWAYS!”
You are one of the most authentic and natural people to watch compared to 99% of UA-camrs, please don’t fall into the Americanisms trap!

This one gets me, you are queueing to pay in the shop. By the time I'm number 3 I have card or cash in hand ready transact. The person in front decides to wait til all the items have been zapped, bag unfolded ready to be filled, the cashier asks for payment THEN decides to rummage through a bag for means of paying !! what's that all about??
been watching for a while now but don't recall you visiting Knaresborough, great place for a day out. There's the castle and museum, Blind jacks and The Groves for good ale and the Ugly Duckling for the best cream scone in Yorkshire.
