Hi all! I hope this video curbed some of your anxiety if you had any about UChicago, and ~hopefully~ my weird sense of humor gave you a chuckle or two. Please let me know if there are any videos you'd like to see from me, and don't forget to drop a hi down below! Good luck to you wherever you are in your ~college~ journey 💛(timestamps in the description box!)
this has been so helpful as i consider uchicago vs other schools (: my heart has been leaning towards uchi but this eliminated a lot of the anxiety i was having. thank u so much!!!!!
Uchicago student here: There's a spectrum. Everyone is book-smart... and most are socially smart too. It's not that bad, you just have to find the right people on the same frequency as you. There are a lot of pretty people here. Like, a lot of pretty people (or y'all are just mean). I have been surprised with just how many people I know joined a frat or sorority. And yes, there are parties (even during covid so maybe not everyone at uchicago is smart). As a STEM person... we don't talk about Rousseau. No, we complain about classes, paint with Bob Ross, and learn Kpop choreos together. You just have to find the fun yourself.
Totally agree with everything you said! It's unfortunate but I feel UChicago is a school that people love to throw broad-ranging stereotypes on because it has a ~personality.~ I think the rates of people joining greek life (which has its own issues honestly) increased every year since I joined/graduated from UChicago too, sociability is definitely subjective but something that I would say visibly "increased" over the years I was there too. Thanks for your comment and perspective! (I will say though, as a physics major, I ironically did talk about philosophers lol)
@@TheAlmostAstrophysicist lol, I have been taking 3 STEM orientated classes per quarter until now so I don't know my philosophers... yet. UChicago is rigorous but it's still so much fun. I've been social here despite COVID and I'm super excited for when everyone can get together.
That's awesome!!! By the time you graduate you will be a master in all philosophy hahaha or at least with Smith/Rousseau/Kant and a couple of awesome ones actually like De Beauvoir! :) Good luck to you!!
This was extremely informative. I got in this year but got scared of the school because of all the stereotypes. I’ll give uchicago a chance and take a visit.
I personally loved it and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made! Every school's unique and for some reason, UChicago gets a lot of flack because it's very rigorous but like, challenge is good! haha I hope you figure out whether it's the right school for you, and definitely check out campus if you can (it is gorgeous). Good luck to you! :)
You are the first UA-camr I saw who reminds viewers to subscribe during the mid of the video and really out of random! I like it! Thank you for the great videos!
haha yeah it's more that I don't like doing it in the beginning because I haven't given anyone any value yet! 😅Thanks so much for watching my content! 😊
thank you for this video!! im trying to decide on schools currently.. i have been accepted to ucla, usc, georgetown, and northeastern, but i was waitlisted at uchicago and i am trying to decide whether or not i would like to try my luck at getting off the waitlist. i want to do something centering around international business/creative writing, and idk !! im just nervous about it and honestly if you have any like adviice for the waitlist, or recommendations for me i would honestly love that. this video was awesome like thank you so much.
Those are absolutely stellar schools, congratulations! I'd definitely recommend writing a Letter of Continued Interest and send it to the admissions office via email (college essay guy has AMAZING templates on his website). Also ensure that you let them know that if you get off the waitlist, you will commit since UChicago is your top choice and remains to be through the college admissions cycle. :) Also, chat with the college counselor at your high school - sometimes they'd know or have the means to contact the school to figure out why you were waitlisted and come to an agreement. One of my close friends at UChicago was waitlisted but her college counselor reached out to the school and found out why and she sent in extra materials and got off the waitlist. Glad you enjoyed the video, and good luck to you with choosing colleges!
This was a great video! I'm a junior and choosing colleges; currently, it's my first choice. could you do a video about the quicks/uniqueness of UChicago, and what distinguishes the school from other colleges? I know you briefly discussed this in the video, but I kinda wanted to know more. Thanks!!!
Of course, I'll add that to my list! I touch on that a little in my "What I Love about UChicago" video as well, but definitely not as in depth. :) Glad you enjoyed the video!
What do core classes look like in person? Like teacher to student ratio. Also are study groups easy to make/join? Thanks for this video btw, there’s very little info about Uchicago here on UA-cam especially from students or alum. These are soo helpful!
So glad that my videos are helpful! Great question - I have a video on Core but didn't talk about class size haha. For HUM (humanities) and SOSC (social sciences) and CIV (civilization), those are discussion based where you're expected to talk and converse/have discourse, it's usually like 25 students. Larger lecture style courses are for intro physics which is probably 80 people and is lecture style. They distinguish between seminar classes (smaller) and lecture classes. If it's a lecture class, I'd recommend going to office hours to ask lots of questions to both your professor and teaching assistants. Study groups are totally easy to join (nothing is exclusive and knowledge is power lol), plus office hours for big math and science classes is basically like a big study group haha.

Not having known these stereotypes this was a fascinating look at what the outsiders see.

Thank you for making this video. You are very attractive, so we know the “unattractive” stereotype is False.
