I'm 90 seconds in and laughing my ass off at the smd opamp. Love that you're trying to use it.

Just found your channel Joe, love these videos.
I’ve built a few of these little Robert’s radio ruby amps now they’re great.
by far my favourite one was a slightly larger Robert’s radio in which I also fitted a Timmy clone and a keeley mag delay.
Also fitted a rechargeable battery bank with hours of play time.
    Give it a try!

@danbrennan2727 Thank you so much for the kind words, it's great to have you along for the ride.
It's funny you say that mate, I have been contemplating this very thing! I wad thinking delay and reverb would go well. What rechargeable power supply did you go for in the end?

Class mate! Love the concept only most 60's radios i find are usually plundered for parts.. my first guitar amplifier in the seventies was an old Philips B5X61A-02 tube radio in a huge mahogany cabinet. Had a EM80 indicator tube an EL84 and a UL41 in the power amplifier.. too cool amp. Professionally reworked into a guitar ready amp by a student of the local electronics engineering school.

I clicked on the wrong order number and got the SMD 386. I make them on Veroboard.. With the pot between the cap and pin 1. I started making them when I was teaching at Hugh Baird College in Bootle. I was the physics and engineering lecturer.

"Earth!" is on AC circuits. DC uses -ve voltage or "Ground".

@mik99D Firstly thank you for watching the video.
Listen mate, I've served over 22 years at sea (still serve actually) in the Royal Navy working on this style equipment. Do you really think I can't tell the difference between AC and DC?
Come on now ha ha. I find it easy to refer to the negative reference as earth, it helps mu mind as we draw earth symbols on a schematic for this.

Are LM386 and LM358 compatible or rather, could they possibly perform the same function in this sort of realm? (guitar effects, etc) That trick with the battery on the speaker was top-notch! Very cool man.

    • @hellosailoreffectsofficial
      @hellosailoreffectsofficial  2 дні тому

@codelicious6590 I'm going to give the opamp suggested in the recebt comments a go but, here's what Google says about them.
The LM386 and LM385 are both audio amplifier chips with different characteristics:
LM386: This audio amplifier chip has a low noise and distortion circuit design, and is small in size. It has a default gain of 20x, which can be adjusted by connecting capacitors. The LM386 is suitable for portable battery-powered guitar mini amplifiers.
LM385: This is a micropower two-terminal bandgap voltage regulator diode. It has a wide current range of 10 µA to 20 mA, low noise, and stable operation over time and temperature

Yeah, the first time I put a pot into an enclosure I drille for the little locator tab.......that was the last time and Ive never looked back. Haha Ive done a massive TWO whole pedals too! I want to build my own amp so badly I have fantasies of using old tubes out of radios to make my own small amp.

The first amp I built from the ruby schematics was mounted in a wooden box that I had made for a craft gallery that didn’t meet my quality standards for that purpose but was the exact right size for a vintage speaker that I wanted to use, the most recent one I built into a detachable speaker from an old Sony boombox and have been using it as a test amp when I don’t want to fire up the big rigs. There is also a really cool variation on this design from Beavis Audio Research called the Noisy Cricket that adds a tone control and a dirt switch to simulate an overdriven tube amp. These are fun little projects that actually have a lot of uses, and can be mounted in some wild ways!! 👍🤙🖖

@@hellosailoreffectsofficial I'm all fingers and thumbs Joe and I get flustered quickly so it's not for me.
I'm always threatening to do a blend circuit with my 2 Strats as I think the volume and 2 tone set up is a bit outdated. A blend knob between 2 or 3 pickups seems a more practical way to go. My whole problem is the soldering iron. I've never found one that holds it's heat in between solders and I hate when it's just not doing the job precisely. I suppose that comes down to the quality of the iron.
I have 2 irons, one is a gas powered one that I tried and it actually worked. The other one has the LED temperature window built into the body. That one I haven't tried.🤔 I must get my finger out and mod those 3 pickups circuits😜

I'll see your Mullard 850 and raise you any of the following: NKT12, NKT678, GEC 4JX1D765, Texas Instruments 2n4062 etc I could keep listing for hours.
