I found the first three of Palins travelogues utterly inspiring, and taught me so much. His humility always shines through. Even when he has to attend that utterly boring party here with all the awful rich English of Hong Kong.

Michael, only you could arrive on a container ship and stay at the Peninsular. You're a champion!

This clip of Michael Palin inspired me to travel the world.
I will be visiting HK for the first time in March 2010, where I will spend 1 night in this hotel. Can't wait!!

Chauffeur, Rolls, liquor, nothing out of ordinary as HK was British territory & they’re extraordinarily good at hotel business. Champagne is light & it’s not much of a luxury transit without alcoholic beverage, is it? I burst out laughing, when he was checked into The Peninsula; it’s only the most exclusive hotel in HK, where the preferred attire was sports jacket minimum & a couple mil operating cash.“Do they know I’ve come off a container ship?”LOL,oh C’mon, you ought to know your rank by now!

Hong Kong - a place that you either love or hate. What have they done to my beloved olde village!

Hmm, he appears to drive across the harbour, go round Bank of China and Central and go back over the harbour to the Peninsula, some naughty editing going on I suspect!

Hong Kong still rocks, and it's much better than it was 20 years ago despite what Tsang saang has to say about it. :)

Well the good ol' days of British Hong Kong... I wonder if that kind of hospitality still exists. :D

Hey BBC if your reading these comments. Get your finger out and satrt making programmes like this again. OK? The public want it. We are sick and tired of seeing celebrities with massive egos talking about themselves, were sick of depressing programmes.
You are partly to blame for how our society is changing for the worse. Now sort it out!!!!

Only a narcissistic maniac would proclaim to speak for an entire populace. Stop using “we” when speaking for yourself.

Zoonjse it's just a BBC untitled composition. I realise that you probably don't care anymore anyway seen as it was 7 years ago. I love the theme tune too :)

It's a shame he had to do the inverted snobbery thing and go on about "swallowing his principles" - if he didn't want to stay in the Peninsula he needn't have.
