Nice Video! Sorry for butting in, I would love your opinion. Have you ever tried - Riddleagan Blossoming Solo Remedy (search on google)? It is an awesome exclusive product for mastering guitar scales without the normal expense. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my mate at very last got cool success with it.
im a singer and proud rhythm guitarist. Everyone wants to be the star lead guitarist, nah i love being the base chord structure guy while the other guitarist riffs
Realistically if you're gonna be singing you're gonna want to be playing rhythm guitar bc otherwise you're just gonna confuse yourself trying to sing and also play the lead lines.
There are only 5 CAGED shapes needed in a 12 tone octave because B uses the A shape, F uses the E shape, and sharps & flats can move up or down the fretboard using the same shapes.
I started out playing percussion and drums as a kids. That made it easy to pick up the rhythm guitar playing. Like Erich says, knowing when to strum down/up based on the up/down beat is essential for making it sound right and for helping keep the rhythm. Keep in mind that you're trying to be in sync with the drums and keep the musical flow for the rest of the team.
For me it is learning timing/counting and how to play in rhythm with the singer, bass player, drummer and other guitarist. Knowing when to play and when not to play is super important.
I find rhythm guitar particularly hard on electric guitar because I can’t get the hang of muting! Easily the hardest part of making the guitar sound musical is the silencing of certain strings, which is magnified through an amp! Great advice as always, love your lessons.
Caged system, that's neat. Like you said I realized they were here but hadn't realized they had a system. ...awe, we aren't gonna talk about soloing? Just kidding. "yeah he's strictly rhythm, he doesn't wanna make cry or sing..."
Every video introduces either a new piece of information, a skill and/or a refresher of something previously learned with new context. GREAT stuff!!! Thanks.
As the lone instrument accompanying a songstress, I struggle with timing and rhythm. Learned guitar playing lead and now learning rhythm years...decades...later. Struggling...lol
I am not disagreeing and been playing a bit and I don’t plan as of now to focus on barre chords. When I watch others place seldom do I see barre chords being used. I wish I could play them but coming this old and small fingers I have to modify.
I'd say as a rhythm guitarist, if you really want to develop a natural sense of rhythm, don't use a metronome. Some musicians will look at me like I have 2 heads for saying this, but the use of a metronome can really suck the individuality out of playing and make it a rigid mathematical thing, and then I hear them play and their strokes are all forced and unnatural because they are too relient on something outside of their own body to keep their playing stable
Can u play any music over in your mind then transfer it straight to the guitar the sound pitch and tone should be exactly what in the minds eye video tutorials are alright but feeling the music is better

Jim Harris first I am a guitarist and a bass player the guitar is a bit harder to learn but eisier to master so I say try to make a band and jam with your songs
Hello, I’m looking to add more chords to my mental library. I have the basic open chords down but wanting to learn so much more!! Do you have any recommendations on where/how to learn?? Are chord books helpful?? I need your help please
A good place to start is my Free Course. It will help you fill in any holes that you may have and get you started on the right path. Check it out here: yourguitarsage.com/30
May 2019 Can you PLEASE place a CHORD DIAGRAM or TABS on your SCREEN. And yes, FOR FREE. That would help A LOT. It is useless to teach without a chord/tab diagram. Not helping. Please don't be selfish.

Huge props for just saying the 5 things up-front. Shows respect for your audience.
I was mighty impressed and surprised, you don't see that too often.

Erich is the man!
Exactly! Love that

I'm pretty jealous. I can play lead pretty well but suck at rhythm playing .

I feel like I’m getting taught by an older Ryan Reynolds. I love it 😂
Ryan Renolds looks really young but he’s 44 so this guy might actually be younger than him lol. Maybe around the same age

I have been playing for years and thought I new everything there is to know but you my good sir just taught me something very valuable
Thanks my friend.
Also learn the 7th chords as well as diminished and suspended chords- these come up a lot in rhythm guitar playing.
I recently joined a metal core band as rhythm guitar so this video helped lol
👍
How’s it going?
@@Nionyx great
@@dude__003 that’s wonderful to hear, reason I asked is cause I think I’m more of a rhythm guitarist and I’m a huge metal core fan aha

Thank you James!
i use both hands to mute at different times, especially my thumb or index finger on the low e string.
Love how you hit the highlights and offer more detail in other videos. Instead of dragging out the whole thing

This was a helpful video. Thank you Sage.
Been playing for years, but always learn something new from you!
Thank you Sharon 🙌
Heard it before, but every time I hear it I learn something new. Thank you.
Thank you my friend 🙌
I’m sad I can’t be the guitarist but I’m the rhythm guitarist but I’m just proud to be part of the band
Rhythm guitar can be very important. You can improvise and do cool stuff while being rhythm. This is your chance to define the sound for the band :)
Hello Erich! Thank you so much for the video, great guidance!! Loved it!! oh yes shared! Hope you and your loved ones enjoy a very Happy New Year!!
Thank you my friend 🙌
@@yourguitarsage You are very welcome Erich!!

I feel the rhythm instead of lead I do a little bit of solos but I feel more better at rhythm
Nice sweater dude and lesson😀

The bar chord is the key (pun not intended), that opens the door to sussing all those Minor, 7th, Sus, etc.
Sussy?
Cheers mate this really helps
I stick to acoustic videos but this will work for me👍👍👍
👍 Thank you for watching
Wow, thank you! A great simple was of explaining the caged system, awesome!
Can you do a video on how to play rhythm EG like Cory Wong?
Great suggestion!

I learned nothing but I have a website permanently tattooed on my brain

Have you received your custom guitar from Franklin Guitar yet? That would be neat to see a review of.

Great channel!
Thank you 🙏
happy new years to the cat!!!
Happy New Year!
good video,,i will subscribe for a while
Do you know anything about slide guitar?
Not my specialty but enough to get by.
You need a higher action and an open tuning. G or "Spanish" tuning is widely used.
What guitar is being given away when you hit 500k subs????
🤔 Stay tuned my friend!

Thank you Byron 🙌
Please go and check a guy named Alick Macheso. he can make a guitar talk
All I ever wanted to do was play wonderwall.
Well, you lost me at the Barre chords. That ain't never gonna happen with my fingers. Nice tutorial though.
Any shortcuts for a guy with a permanently broken pinky?
sounder9393 yeah. Check out the guitar playing of Django Reinhardt
Sounds like most guitar players.
isn´t B7 an open chord too?
It is! I included in my nine essential chords in my step by step course. Here’s a link for free access: www.yourguitarsage.com/30
So your saying you can't play Rhythm if you don't know the caged system. Not sure what I've been doing for the past three years then.
No, I absolutely did not say that whatsoever, nor think that.
YourGuitarSage but u said there are 5 things u need to know to play Rhythm, and one of those was the caged system......
I think knowing the caged system would open a lot more possibilities for you. Idk why you would not want to learn it to improve
One should not wear that sweater while playing guitar Eric. That’s a tuba sweater I’m fairly sure…
😂😂😂
lets talk...
"For some time"
It does in fact spell cage 😂
It's all about the shawl collar.
😂😂😂👍
there is something off-putting about being asked to subscribe 3 times within like 10 seconds, good video besides that
Subscribe though?😂
What kind of self respecting axe jammer wears a sweater like that? I've heard of mom jeans. Now I know what a mom sweater looks like.
Worries about clothes when he should be practicing. 😂
👊🏻😜
Good vid, sorry I can't subscribe. I have too many subscriptions to channels. I will have to clean my clutter email first.
You missed the most fondamental point to play Rhythm guitar: RHYTHM!
I mean strumming patterns.
Turn to Jesus before it’s too late
Al grano.
Bla bla bla
“Most aren’t” Nice teaching 🤦♂️
booo barre chords
Don’t fear them 👍
I learned barre chords first. Why learn a dozen chords when one will work?
because my finger wont barre..:(
Playing barre chords should never be an issue on an electric guitar.. it did take me a few months on acoustic guitar though
@@herbythechef7624 wel li have sausages for fingers so i cant
