I’ve never paused so much on a video! Maybe a deck of detailed and full shot still's on Instagram or somewhere would make a nice complement to future videos of such type - now I’m asking you to do more work than you are already! I appreciate everything you two have shown me, learned so much over the years and you’ve had a big influence on what and how I ride.
Some beautiful bikes. Impressed with how slammed some of the bars are for "touring bikes".😳 Interesting how the industry behemoths give "scholarships" to select "independent" frame builders and give them a little bit of direction. The rack from Kobel cycles- very cool.
Totally fascinating. I'll need to view this a few more times. Cycledelic took touring in a whole new direction. And all the metal frames and forks are just great to see. Nice job Russ and Laura.
Outstanding. Just love to see what different variations of bikes are being created by these craftspeople. Very much needed in todays ‘corporate driven’ bike industry. Thank you.
Lovely bikes ^_^ Especially my attention was caught by the Pedersen bike, the double-decker handlebar a-la Canyon but steel and front shock a-la BMW Telelever.
It wasn’t a dream. It was more of a vision: As an 18 year old, I came back from Oktoberfest (fairly drunk) and was dancing in front of the bathroom mirror listening to Paul Kalkbrenne sound. And all of a sudden I saw myself somewhere at a beautiful lake in the sunset… being completely independent, like having everything I need to live and to move, but it wasn’t a van, it wasn’t a backpack, it was something in between.. and yeah, the rest was f***ing hard work 😎🤞
Glad you saved the best 'til last Russ, that was a doozy and well worthy of the title of this vid. Also, looks like truss/multi-tubes are the next big thing, amirite?
19:56 Interesting how the braze was left unpainted, giving almost the appearance of parts of a flower. The time spent masking the braze before painting must have been extensive. The show really captures the creativity of the builders.
That guy with Starfish could fit into Portland’s bike scene without blinking an eye. Shifting gears: a German bike named Panzer with a “Blitzkreig” racing model would cause a media buzz. All publicity is good. ✌️
Also, I'm loving how so many frame parts are being custom 3D printed. With services like PCBWay in China offering a stainless steel 3D printing service for around the same price per volume as buying cast lugs, etc, it means CAD skills are the only barrier to "that special frame that can't be built because the lugs aren't standard."
Am lucky enough to be living very close to the Avalanche team. Was able to chat with them once about the first bike they built with a truss fork (stainless steel) and it was so interesting. The day I am deciding to go for a custom build, it will be with them for sure (not titanium though, don't have the budget). 😅
This is the first I've seen of 3D printed (additive manufacturing) stainless steel. Curious how it compares to traditional SS for stress and durability. As someone in the traditional "reductive" manufacturing side (CNC), I can see jobs like mine diminishing considerably over the next decade.
Project D here :) no worries, 3D printing is just another crayon in the engineering pencil case, and one that blends really well with both traditional and CNC reductive technologies. Printed parts are never 'cnc perfect' and some areas need a bit of love on the lathe or a mill. As for the strength, printed parts match machined parts.
For me I think my next bike will be a 20" cargo bike with beefy integral steel cargo racks. Been riding a 700c bike with a Topeak rear rack and when loaded to less than half capacity there is a lot of flex and it gets very tippy on the center-stand. Only way I could lower the CG while having a basket above the tires would be to lower the diameter of the wheel and 20" seems like the best option with the bonus of making the bike more compact wheelbase wise and lowering the gearing overall. I'm a putt putt guy, if I can comfortably do 10 mph on my bike that's plenty, the lower gearing is nice on hills and such.
Bit of a narrow-minded comment for this channel and this kind of content, isn't it? Did you say the same thing about some of the wacky bikes of Made show? The first thing many of the people in this scene will say is that these aren't really practical or commercially viable products, they create these bikes for fun, as an hommage to something or to try out ideas. Everybody knows you can get a bombproof mass manufactured steel frame for a gravel/touring/mountain/whatever bike for 700 bucks and go from there. That's not what these conventions are about though.
Maybe you have mentioned something like this, but is there a sistem to integrate your fone as your head peace on the bike and to via a dynamo or so, keep it charged?
Thanks Russ for opening the eyes of many to alternative bicycles. The creators are clearly passionate about their bicycles. Pricing would have helped for people thinking about alt bikes. Did you notice any big differences between made in the US and bespoke in EU? If you did, your thoughts would be appreciated. I am now looking seriously at the new Brompton G-line simply because of its versatility and ease of transporting as someone you spends time on both sides of the Atlantic and travels by train/ferry a lot.
16:50 Loving the Abes Longtail with Pinion + Belt ! Gotta say though, that stack looks extremely low for me! I guess without a motor he's trying to get aero for hauling lots of stuff? 😅
Cycledelic is definitely saving the best til lastI have ideas to turn my Zeitbikes short wheelbase cargobike into a "campervan" and in researching concepts I've come across cycledelic on youtube. It's an inspired design and the concept of sleeping across the bike, like I'm thinking of doing is verified by it - probably how I'll do my camper pod. Mind you, the short wheelbase Zeitbikes only have a 550mm minimum load floor length, so the bed might have to be a bit more elevated than cycledelic, or I may have to find a frame builder willing to extend and reinforce my single spar frame.
Hey, hope you enjoyed my hometown. I normaly find thouse videos not that interesting, yet another expensive titaniumbike, another color, there something 3d-printed. But this time I enjoyed the full 40 minutes. Thanks for that and propabely see you next year in Dresden, I have to go there in 2025.
Huge range of imaginative and idiosyncratic ideas made solid. Only thing I didn't see here was some Furry theme worked into a in-der-natur concept bike.
Made is light years ahead, but there is talent and courage at Dresden too. Really nice to see. That Project D guy is playing with fire. He might stumble upon something new.
IDK. Dresden was a way better venue. Better light. Not a superfund site. Flush bathrooms. The space was better distributed without big brands dominating giving equal share to smaller brands and builders. I think the builders at Dresden weren't afraid to take more risks.
That camper bike at the end... WOW. That guy is on to something for sure.
That thing was amazing. Definetly a nig innovation going on
He is cooking 😎
Thank you so much!! 💜
Best NEW thing into the biking world.
And a very pretty build aswell
Talked to him and yeah he is _on his way_. Super nice guy for sure and maybe he was more sober than me ;)
Just amazed at the amount of talented people out there making incredible bicycles! Thank you Russ, for bringing your passion, and sharing it with us 👍
That bike camper at the end was worth the watch.
The titanium fork was interesting too.
@@timshelhamer7374 I think Theodor Geisel would've liked that bicycle camper, lol.
Thank you 😘 appreciate !!
i want whatever cycledelic is smoking. such a unique build
Its a secret 😎

WOW. JUST WOW. All of them are absolutely brilliant!
Wow! The ti fork on the Avalanche is nuts. Truss forks seem to really be on the rise. Excellent coverage Russ and Laura!
Really liking that Meerglass but neat and unique stuff all around. Thanks for the coverage, y’all.
Cycledelic is such a cool concept!
Oh buddy, those Meerglass & Hulsroy machines are awesome!!! Great coverage, as always.
this is so sick. I don't get excited about the mainstream stuff, but *this*.... 😍 so creative, so interesting!!! 💪
Thank you Russ for sharing with us. Loved it, and you do it so well.

My mind was blown with every bike I saw. Amazing content.
Best report ever! In Dresden? Have to go there next year! This seems more fun than Eurobike!
Definitely more fun than Eurobike.
Who doesn’t love some flex. Thanks for the new video.

Really impressed with “Good Grief”.
Met them at MADE in Portland this year. Looks like they brought a different bike to Dresden. Very cool.
Totally fascinating. I'll need to view this a few more times.

The last one (from 36:48) is a highlight I didn't expect! :D
My jaw dropped at 33:50. That is an amazing bike from Project D Bikes.
It's nice to see some of the Danish stuff. Hulsroy bottle cages are on my wishlist for next year.
Damn, the avalanche cycles bike is beautiful - great video, thanks.
I am really luving your outlook on bikes in general !!! Keep doing what U be doing !!
I think Russ needs to ride a Pedersen someday. They are so crazy cool.
Russ, looks like you have found your peeps in Europe! Great looking bikes!
Cool picks from the show!! Great you made it to bespoked, and nice getting to know you briefly. Have a good ride ;)
Awesome report as always!
A breath of fresh air! The most exhilarating cycling video for months.
Thanks!
Lovely bikes ^_^

Loving all the framebuilder content! Some really cool ideas there.
That camp bike must of came to him in a dream! So cool!!!

I saw a clip of them peeling the masking and it showed the brazing was just dabs all the way round with fisheyes, prone to cracking from the centres

Great variety of interesting accents 😊
So cool! I really like that Project D bike!
Love the paint of Amapola's and Significant other. The engineering of the cycledelic is impressive. Bastel_mann fillets are great too

Love to see you try out the @Cycledelic this spring! That looks so freakin' cool :)
The Truvativ Hammershmitt front crank was a great idea back then, dont know what happened it just faded out rather quickly.🤖🛸
The Project D road bike looks very very very nice!
Thank you! :)

The open top coupling in the pederson tribute are actually called "rose couplings." A ball joint is closed over the top.
Would love to see a video on three D printing the bike parts.
i’d love to see a video of the avalanche truss fork being mounted-it can’t be welded together on the bike, can it?
The fork has a binder above AND under the headtube. I suspect it has a loose steerer.
Russ.... Thanks for this. 10% some good scalable ideas. The rest? You managed to keep a straight face anyway. Chapeau!
Especially the bird watching bike with the 2500 mm handle bar and a telescope mounted directly on the fork.....😂😂😂

don't know for the others but for an Avalanche Titanium bespoke bike it starts at 7,500 euros (guess the Truss fork would add a few hundreds 😉)

starfish bikes seem so wild. crazy bars haha
