4 weeks ago I changed my rear 13/16 inch sway bar on my 1970 SS 396 L-34 Camaro (I kept the original skinny 9/16 inch bar) which I sold to a guy for a zinc coated 7/8 inch rear sway bar. I also painted it Black Eastwood paint. I sprayed the T-Bolts and nuts for 3-4 days with WD 40 and Blaster BP and I used a large racket set and long pipe as a breaker bar, and still it was a nightmare. Every turn was tough. He has an assistant and Air tools to make it much easier. I never want to go thru that again. But it did come out nice.

Nice vid on the spring change. I can't say I like the spring shackles used though. I would go with the factory ones .

All nuts and bolts securing the leaf spring and related components must be soaked in PB Blaster for 48 hours before beginning the work. This will make removal of the nuts and bolts easy without the possibility of snapping stuff.

Thanks for sharing Dude... What size tires on your 79? I have a 79 Z28 with the original tall tire profile, I just restored the whole cat and is going back together I did a frame off resto. I just installed new lower springs in the front and I would like to have from the new tires a more aggressive look. Thanks for any advice! Ken

Kenny Quintero, I just put mine back to stock, well one inch lower than stock, couldn't stand it anymore no clearance, no spring. And alignment issues, not enough caster. Sits nice now, with Monroe air shocks in the back. Now to replace the bent axle, I know right. Needs mew leaf spring bushings, always something to do.

I am following the steps to do this to my 79 Camaro, everything has went smooth and easy except putting the shock absorber plate on. The bolt on the bottom of the leaf spring wont line up with the hole in the absorber plate. I got the same springs that you are working with here, any suggestion or advice?

    • @nickbrekke3375
