    Great review MEM! Been looking at one of these as a second bike. Do you know if there is much difference between the X and the R? Other than wheel and brake size etc? Can you easily put off road wheels on the X model? Or is it easier the other way around?

    • @MrEnglishman6969
      @MrEnglishman6969 Рік тому +1

      Hi I have both the X and R. Apart from the front end they are basically the same. I have seen the R before with the smaller X wheels fitted. The forks are different so guessing the fenders and stuff will need changing. May I ask why you would want to swap wheels. If you want to do some off roading with one of these just buy the R model.

    • @MrEnglishman6969

      Also when buying these you tend to find the R models have not been abused as much as the X. The wheelie kings like to buy the X model lol. Both really good bikes just buy a good one. These are perfect for that. if you have low speed surging check the rear sprocket for back and forth movement. If you have any movement replace the Cush drive rubbers. This really is a common fault on these as they are a big single engine. I have one with all the mods fitted and I have one which is 100% standard both ride spot on. But had to do the Cush drive rubbers on both of them as people never check them. One of my xt660 when I first got it you would have thought there was something wrong with it the way it was at low speeds. But I have had a few of these and knew about the rubbers. If you have a 2009 xt660x with the box swing arm it’s ether and older model on a late reg or someone has changed the front end to the x model . Are your forks from the x model or has someone just put a xt660x front wheel on a xt660r ?. Another way of checking the year your bike was made is if you look at the left hand side exhaust header, from 2007 onwards they had a sensor coming off it. If yours has the sensor coming off it at a guess I would say it left the factory as an R model and someone has changed the front end. If yours dose NOT have the sensor coming off the left hand side exhaust header then it is most probably a 2004/5/6 model on a late registration. From 2007 onwards all xt660X models had the upgraded swing arm but all xt660R models had the steel box swing arm. Hope this helps.

      My wife had the MT03 it was an awful riding position. I am 5.11 and have no problems with the xt660 X or R. I would go for the xt660x over the MT03 any day

      Hi mate first thing to check is the Cush drive rubbers they are the main problem with it jerking. Grab the rear sprocket and see if you have movement front to back. Best you have a good 10 to 15mm play. Change the rubbers if you have any play. Then go from there. If you have the 2004 if you still have bad fueling you will only need the kev fuel mod. And only get it from kev. But you may not need it after you have changed the rubbers. I have 2 xt660 and one needed no mods just the rubbers replacing

      Grab the rear sprocket like you are holding a car steering wheel and mover left to right see what play you have

      I shit you not every single Honda that I ride vibrates annoyingly. So much so there has been at least 3 that I was gonna buy but thankfully got a test ride first.

      In this condition and mileage I would say from £4500 up wards. Both mine have agreed insurance values for £5500

      Just buy a good one. There are a lot listed at between £2500 and £4000 but 95% of them are not worth that much. Good ones are going up and up in price for some reason
