Wonderful. Some fine character actors like Bill Fraser (the scrap man) and I loved the brief cameo of John Cleese reacting to the wife shouting "I'm having a baby!" down the street. They used some real Yorkshire locations like Kildwick Hall and the old butcher's shop in Bradley near Skipton.

I’ve never understood why Ripping Yarns isn’t as well remembered as Fawlty Towers. The basic premise of Fawlty was the same every week, and the slapstick and misunderstandings were really a throwback to classic Brian Rix type farces in many ways.
I can only guess that Ripping Yarns is less well known because it sends up British, usually English, stereotypes which we recognise the UK, but others won’t understand. In this episode, for me the best of all Ripping Yarns, the clichés are obvious, right down to the brass band playing the Match of the Day theme. I wonder how many Americans will spot what the jokes are about.

Colin Baker, I’m a yank but enjoy these. I may not get every inside joke, but apparently I get more of the British/English satire than many of my country’s compatriots likely would. But they’re all a bit daft, if you ask me. 😉

This episode, 'The Testing of Eric Oulthwaite' and 'Tomkinson's Schooldays' were every bit as good as Fawlty Towers and Monty Python. The other six episodes of 'Ripping Yarns' were a bit weak I thought, and nowhere near as funny as the three episodes that I mentioned.

3 all, 5-3 after extra time, Davitt scored twice in last 3 minutes and Frank Haggerty saved a penalty. Whenever EPL results are being repeated in our house, Frank Haggerty saved a penalty is always the last thing that's said.
