Here's another fun fact that people may or may not know. The scene where Raphael rolls across the hood of the taxicab when chasing Casey Jones and the passenger says, "What the heck was that?" to the driver...well, that passenger was none other than Josh Pais himself, who played Raphael in the movie.
By far the best TMNT movie. The effects are outstanding, allowing so much emotion and life to the characters, and all practical. Add to that the darker tone, and the great stunt work, and it's like the book characters just came to life on the screen. You can do whatever you want with digital effects and it doesn't hold a candle to seeing physical turtles (and Shredder) come to life.
I was 7 when this came out and already a huge TMNT fan. I remember being shocked when Raphael said "damn". The more mature and gritty nature of the film changed how we played with the toys (when our parents weren't watching).

One thing I do know, it's the best TMNT movie of all.time, i loved it because it was dark, the two sequels never matched it and neither did the CGI reboot.
I'll always be appreciative of New Line for backing the Ninja Turtles and Lord of the Rings (which Miramax wanted to turn into one movie). There logo also shows up at the start of 3 LOTR games I played for hundreds of hours in the 2000s, so that's fun. Those music videos mentioned are some of the most famous videos, ever.

🎶 *Teenage Mutant Ninja/Hero Turtles* 🎵 This explains my 30 year confusion on how the song really goes. We had both versions in our country,.. Thanks Minty, now I understand.
The unedited version was released on DVD in 2004 in the UK. Furthermore, the German dubbing audio track contains several "cartoon-like" sounds in order to soften the violence of the fight scenes. Although the German dub of the film was released with unedited pictures on DVD, the German dub audio version with the cartoonish sounds were still kept, because they were permanently merged into the German voice-dubbing audio.
I remember working on the rubber masks for the Dick Tracy Stage Show at Disneyland when Jim Henson died. This was in 1990, and the Turtles movie was big talk in the rubber costume / movie industry, and professional costumers were in awe of what the Henson team were able to accomplish with these incredible rubber costumes. It was a moment of reflection for us all at Don Post Studios that day. 💜
The funny thing is when this movie first came out in 1990, it was a big deal because I was stationed in Europe at the time. We would get movies typically 6 months to a year after they came out in the United States which by then you can watch them on video. It was the first movie to be simultaneously in the theaters in the USA and in Europe on the day of its release. The line went around my entire kaserne, I had to wait and watch the evening show. I loved it!
Funnily enough, this film came up in my suggested list last week, and I rewatched it. The puppetry and practical effects are so good that I forgot about them and kept watching as if they were real. Thanks for clarifying the different name, at the end I remember playing the arcade game with three friends, and I was always baffled that it said Hero instead of Ninja. I thought it was a (very well made) bootleg, back then. This 35 years old mystery is finally solved!
It was around 1991 when TMNT and Total Recall both reached home media that our local video rental business started purchasing surplus VHS tapes of new rentals for people to rent and subsequently purchase if they wanted. As of May 2024, I’ve still got each of the two tapes my dad got of those films from that rental place. There’s no way I couldn’t click on this review of TMNT. Admittedly, part of it had to do with listening for Corey Feldman’s name.

@@nsasupporter7557 The second movie, while not as good as the first, is still a lot of fun. I think of it as the perfect movie to play in the background at a pizza party.
The dark tone was more in line with the original black and white comics, which were written for adults... and is a tone which I actually prefer over the zaniness of the kids cartoon (of which I was a huge fan)... even though I was 10 when the movie released... but I didn't mind Krang and the Technodrome not being there... I liked the movie being more grounded in reality, I really liked the addition of Tatsu, and I love the gritty aesthetic. Not to mention that I was born and raised in NY... so it spoke to me on several different levels. I also prefer the original comics version of the Oroku Saki/Hamato Yoshi origin story... the one they used in the movie.
The Shredder / Splinter origin was SLIGHTY condensed from the comic version. Originally, it was Oroku Saki's BROTHER, Oroku Nagi, who attacked Tang Shen and was killed by Hamato Yoshi. Oroku Saki then kills Yoshi in revenge for the killing of his brother.

These first Turtle movies are the reason I was VERY excited when I heard Jim Henson Creature Shop was going to be working on the Five Nights at Freddy's movie. I watched these all the time as a kid. (Except the third one, but I still liked it.)
One thing I do know, it's the best TMNT movie of all.time, i loved it because it was dark, the two sequels never matched it and neither did the CGI reboot.
I'm officially old, we saw TMNT The Movie at the cinema back then
Also saved the soft drink cans(one for each turtle) from 1991 or so
I'll always be appreciative of New Line for backing the Ninja Turtles and Lord of the Rings (which Miramax wanted to turn into one movie). There logo also shows up at the start of 3 LOTR games I played for hundreds of hours in the 2000s, so that's fun.
Those music videos mentioned are some of the most famous videos, ever.
Been waiting for this one! Thanks, Minty!💪🏾
this was my first time going to the movies..i was 8 years old...i think that was when i got hooked on going to theatres for my must see movies!!!
I worked with a teacher whose brother wrote this film. She was one of the coolest people I worked with.
Nice touch on adding the video game music in the background... your attention to detail on these videos is always so great!!!
Classic.....makes me miss classic special effects, practical effects, costumes, etc.
Cowabunga! The 1990's turtles were my first introduction to the turtles, and still are my favorite incarnation of the heroes in green. The shell heads will always have a special place in my heart.
I always love the TMNT. I hope the fan project "Ronin" turns out as good as the test photos suggest.
This movie will forever be my all time favorite childhood movie. It's just that good.
Some of this behind t scenes footage is from part 2 not 1 lol. Love that the turtles kept most of their playful personalities from the 87 series in pretty much every iteration of the turtles since then, love Raph's sarcasm lol.
I was born in 1990. Proud to say I watched this, Batman Returns, and Waynes World soany times the tape in the VHS snapped!
That’s very interesting you definitely caught the tails end of the this time. Because DVDs where a thing by the time you where old enough to watch and remember anything.
@@cliffchampion5501 I remember things starting at about 4 years old. I also remember not getting DVDs until the PlayStation 2 came out when I was like 11 or 12. But I still collected VHS for a few years there until they stopped carrying them.
Thank you.. my favorite as a child
I went to this movie five times in the theater. Then I wrote out all of the dialogue from memory. Ten year-old me was really obsessed with this movie.
The fact that the “darker” take on TMNT worked was not a surprise to anyone that read the graphic novels. As this film was closer to that than the cartoon. And they won because they displayed TURTLE POWER. Cowabunga!
Minty. You're the MAN! Watching this video on my 75" in the man cave. I saw this film in the theatre as a 10 yr old kid. Loved it then and I still love it now! Great film. Keep up the good work buddy!!
They definitely went with a theme closer to the original comic book with the movie.
Love this channel so much Minty you have become part of the daily you tube watch while I am playing guild wars 2 lol
The Mivie 😂
I didn't know it was a mivie either!
I've never seen the mivie, is it good?
Minty's gone scouser.
This must be a special version of the movie, only on the DivX format. ;)
Australians pronounce things different lol
Rewatched it recently and it still holds up perfectly.
I didn't get a chance to see this as a kid in the theatre, even though I really wanted to, but thankfully my mother bought the VHS and my sisters and I watched the hell out of it. Though I can thank a recent Astor screening for finally giving me a cinema experience.
Shout out to the music from the NES game 🥰 appreciate the trip back in time Doc Minty
This film was also one of Sam Rockwell's earliest film credits, he played Head Thug
" Regular or Menthol?" 😉
🎶 *Teenage Mutant Ninja/Hero Turtles* 🎵
This explains my 30 year confusion on how the song really goes.
The German discs also have commentary tracks on them that the US ones don't.
Loved this movie when I was a kid.
The toys were some of my favorite action figures.
thank you for making my childhood a little more magical
That’s very kind of you to say, thank you.
Thanks for all the awesome content! 🤩Can you do Dances with Wolves, please? 🙏
One of my favorite mivies ❤
The funny thing is when this movie first came out in 1990, it was a big deal because I was stationed in Europe at the time. We would get movies typically 6 months to a year after they came out in the United States which by then you can watch them on video. It was the first movie to be simultaneously in the theaters in the USA and in Europe on the day of its release. The line went around my entire kaserne, I had to wait and watch the evening show. I loved it!
The Jim Henson bit trips me out because of all the stuff they did that frightened me as a young child the Turtles weren't one of them.
One of my favorite movies of my childhood. Thanks Minty.
On of the best 90s❤️
Funnily enough, this film came up in my suggested list last week, and I rewatched it.
The puppetry and practical effects are so good that I forgot about them and kept watching as if they were real.
Thanks for clarifying the different name, at the end
I remember playing the arcade game with three friends, and I was always baffled that it said Hero instead of Ninja.
Awesome new video, Minty! I have the same Super Mario Bros shirt!
EDIT: a lot of movies are made in North carolina. Specifically Wilmington North carolina. Maximum overdrive, for instance, was filmed there.
Greetings to you from Virginia, the state right above North Carolina!
I was never aware that Jim Henson had worked on the Turtles movie, but it makes total sense.
In the German Vision the Nunchuck scenes where cut to. And the Final Fight Szene with splinter and shredder, too...only the Bow shot was in the Movie.
There was also no garbage truck.
That was mindblowing to me, when I saw this movie uncut...
I didn't know that only the German Vision got these funny sounds...In my childhood, that was a funny thing 😅
Thank you for the funny shots with Donatello on the Farm 😂
Minty, that is a great video again 💪😎
Hope you do another Video for Secret of the Ooze. And don't forget the "Ninja Kampfwürstchen", when Michelangelo fights with Sausages 🤣
I love this mivie!!!
Was a great filum!
Amazing mivie.
This is the mivie that put the Ninja Turtles on the big screen.
Folm of the year
It's a great Mitchin Pickture!
This film leaves a big place in my heart as a kid born in 85 I was obsessed with the turtles and this was incredible
I remember going to see this movie on opening day at the theater... Damn I'm old
I absolutely love this movie. I watch it every year.
All fathers care for their sons.
I watch all your videos! Love your channel buddy!
All Time Favorite Movie!!!
Surprised there was no mention of Sam Rockwell’s earliest roles in this movie. Otherwise great video, Minty!
The Mivie lol
Such a classic no matter how you spell it
I don't think there are any facts about this movie that I don't already know...but it is fun to hear them in an Australian accent. Thanks Minty!
Minty already did this movie… not sure if this is a reupload or what. But he already did this movie for sure
🐢T. U. R. T. L. E.🐢 POWER
I rewatched the movie last week and it's legit great. Didnt take the kids for idiots nor comic books or cartoons for a frivolous thing
Sorry, Minty. It was Luis Llosa who directed The Specialist.
I remember seeing pictures of Donatello with that farmers hat in trading cards that came around the same time as the movie. I saw the trading cards before I saw the movie. The same card set you showed on the video.
that first movie is the best the turtles have ever looked
It was the best TMNT movie period!! In fact, it was the only good one.
It was all downhill for TMNT movies after that
The Turtles looked fantastic in the second movie too.
@@nsasupporter7557
The second movie, while not as good as the first, is still a lot of fun.
I think of it as the perfect movie to play in the background at a pizza party.
@@JanetStarChild that’s because it was Jim Henson’s company that made the costumes for the second movie also
I remember going to the theatre to see the movie 7 yrs old and the rest of the night me and my friend did karate vs each other in the living room!
I have some of those cards of the deleted scenes lol ..great video
I like mivies.
11:01 ...That is such an adorable photo! I love the expression on Leonardo; he looks so sweet.
Where the heck is the 4k Blu-ray for TMNT (1990)?
I was 9 when the movie dropped and recall an advertisement for some sort of contest in which the prize was a private theater screening with like 30 friends of your choice, etc… anyone else remember this? At the time, I thought that would be the coolest thing ever.
