    In a world full of thousands of UA-cam channels, this channel is the only channel I receive notifications for. Easily my favorite channel and it has a lot do with the format on how you make videos. So keep doing what you're doing and I look forward to what's in store for 2024.

    The episode you did on Tokyo made me switch from going to Europe to going to Japan for my vacations. I am leaving for the 6th time on Thursday to meet up with some friends I have made there so.....Thank you!!

    Since you grew up in Hong Kong, why have you not done more episodes in Asia.....like the Philippines, South Korea or Taiwan?

      You're right. I am obviously a huge fan of Asia. I'd like to get out there more, it's just finding the time for those longer filming trips. But rest assured that 2024 will feature more than one Asian destination. I'm already very excited!

    Thanks for putting this together! I think Attaché really hits a spot that usual travel content about place just doesn't. I'm glad you've been moving away from relying on food tours for your food segment not just for the reasons you metioned (too often, they stick to commoditized, tourist/tour-friendly places) but also for the simple reason that I could just book one myself, so there's a bit less value if viewing as actual travel prep (admittedly, I watch a lot of attaché purely to learn and be entertained). This actually brings me to my other point about the food segmet:
    In general, attaché videos age shockingly well, even 5+ years on. However, specific places for food are likely to have closed, turned into tourist traps, etc in the intervening years. Instead of highlighting a few specific places and telling their story (as you sometimes did in past episodes), I'd love to see the food segment more focused on "types" of food experiences that one shoudln't miss and to explain the local food culture in general (e.g., is breakfast a big deal? Is lunch at noon or at 4pm?). I think you've already been shifting to that somwhat, and I've enjoyed food segments that focused on those aspects much more than those that focused on specific places.

    • @attachetravel
      @attachetravel  11 місяців тому +2

      Yeah that's a great point. We do try hard to avoid specific eateries unless they are true icons. And generally we do want to focus on the food culture and food experiences that one mustn't miss in a destination. We can't always do that in every destination for a variety of reasons, but we certainly try.

    Another great Attaché video. What I love about your channel is the practical aspect - they aren’t mindless entertainment, not very common on UA-cam. Keep doing what you do! Please more snippets of Greg like in 12:08 they are reminder of the genius behind the camera. Again, keep up the great work - just plain f awesome vids!

    I comment on almost every video, and Attache usually replies, likes, and/or comments on my comment and for good reason. Attache is the most efficient channel that I've come across for stress-free, evergreen info on somewhere I'm going to visit or thinking about going to visit. The evergreen nature is what stuns me the most, an easy test is seeing his reviews for cities I already know or live in (Boston, NYC, DC, Montreal, Berlin, Barcelona). Based on those videos, especially Boston, NYC & DC, which span close to 8 years between those videos, I know I can trust Attache's videos.
    I also have a lot of severe and uncommon food allergies, so food is usually the lowest priority on my trip consideration tree, but even with that in mind, the food recommendations are still pretty good even for me. In general, I do still have to devote a fair chunk of time learning the lingua-franca of the city or region that I'm visiting ahead of time, if it isn't an English, German, Spanish, or French speaking city (in that order). I need to learn the basics so that I can eat something and not feel like it'll kill me or make me want to die.
    I've even built several trips around a great Attache video, and every one has been a hit. Most recently, I've been fortunate to visit Toledo, Vienna, and Madrid this year (2023) alone and all did not disappoint. Can't wait to see what 2024 has in store both for Attache, and my own travels. Mexico City & Lisbon, you're on my list!

    Thank you so much for your inspiring videos. After some apprehension to travel overseas after the "VID", I finally went on a solo trip to Lausanne, Switzerland and it was amazing! My perception of travels has shifted for the better. I find deeper meaning and freedom in the whole process, from chosing an unexpected destination to getting lost in a city and finding hidden gems. I got excited again and seing your beautiful videos had something to do with it. Thank you Alex and friends, and Happy New Year!❤

    Minute 2:45 In Munich, we had difficulty pushing our train tickets into the slot to validate, as the slot is smaller than the ticket. Until a Munich friend told us and showed us to fold the corner of the ticket so it can fit into the slot, lol.

    Ooh happy 10th anniversary Attache this year then?!
    Always look forward to your films and where you go. While I don't go exactly where you're going, sometimes I'll end up going somewhere you've been previously and use them as a rough guide. Like Istanbul coming up in Feb. Can't wait

    Alex, this is such a great video…so helpful and also interesting to see that I do a few of the same things. I agree with the food tours…I’ve had some great ones, and a few not so great…I find them helpful, as long as you realize their limitations. And, poor Greg….probably always having to fight off the food tour guides. :)

    What you said about influencers on food was thought provoking. I think the reason that kind of content comes about is because many of those creators are one-person-crews on a shoestring budget armed with little more than a phone or, in my case, a ridiculous apparatus of GoPros, mini tripods and relatively oversized mics. Those people don't want to draw too much attention to themselves when just turning up unannounced as a tourist, so what can they do besides film the food and film themselves eating the food and giving their opinion on it? If you have the money and resources to book private tour guides, use professional equipment, come with a few extra pairs of hands and make appointments, it's much more socially acceptable to interview the chef in an establishment and delve deeper into the food scene.

      Really great point, thanks. I think we're talking about two different things though. Those Food content creators who really are focused on the food itself, I have no beef with. It's the ones that are there to be seen in the restaurant or the bar or the café, not to consume the food. They are not excited about the food, they don't care about the food. They are the ones who rig up all the lights, ruin peoples meals, let the food go cold while they take photos of it, and then never actually eat it. Those are the people I can't stand. And it's why more and more restaurants are against people taking photos or filming in their restaurants, which I can completely understand. I can completely understand why they don't want people doing it if the food is going to waste or they're ruining people's experience or bothering other patrons. I also think it's important to point out that we don't have big filming rigs, lights, microphones, or anything like that. Almost without exception, we work with a very small rig, concealed microphones, no lights, and it's just the two of us. And we do that by design. So as not to be an imposition to the restauranteur or their patrons. I would do whatever I can to encourage genuine content creation around FOOD. Not about the content creator themselves, but the food. And I think that's what I am ranting against in this video. What you do is good work, and I would encourage everyone reading this to check out what Ben does.

    • @BenCG
      @BenCG 11 місяців тому

      That's really kind, thank you! And yeah, I agree wholeheartedly with you about the people who go to a place just to take pictures of food and don't care about others if it hasn't been pre-arranged. I would actually be really interested to see a video from you on your usual filming rig and how you are able to make it look discreet while acheiving professional results, if that hasn't already been done.
