Outstanding tutorial. You have made it so clear and simple to follow. Sometimes I think that what makes great tutorial is the view from the camera. You have great placement along with your excellent verbal instructions.
Thank you so much for this video! It was very helpful especially using different colored beads for the next row cleared up confusion for me. Also very clear how to anchor the last bead of the odd count row.
Great video ! I had a pattern of that said stitch three rows of odd count peyote, but didn’t explain it and I tried to find a video that would help me. Yours is the only one that explained it properly!
Thank you so much Julie for this tutorial! Even though its an older tutorial, I'm soo glad it was there, because I'm ready for this next step. You taught me peyote, and now I'm ready to try odd count and I really wanted a design. I have a size 4 1/2- 5 wrist. The chevron design, and narrow width, in tutorial is perfect. Again, thank you, for such clear, precise, and easy to follow videos. You make learning a joy. :-)
This is the best kind of comment, I love to hear from people who are finishing old projects that got stuck in that "almost done" space for too long. Glad we could help!
Thank you for the instructions, had no problem seeing where I went wrong and now know how to do odd peyote stitch!!!! My first beading stitch and from what I've learned so far its a great stitch to know.
You count from the edge bead but I have seen different patterns which label the rows differently, so it does somewhat depend on which pattern you are following. I tend to not count rows and just keep track of where I am at in the overall design.
Nice and clear video and an excellent explanation of the turn. When I was watching the other videos, I would think - OK, I'll get clear on it when I start doing it watching the video at the same time. Now, however, I do not need to see it to do the odd count peyote turn because it's so precise, easy. and not complicated at all! Thank you!
Beautiful, thanks for the video, I'm sure it will help me. I am not a long time beadier so it is hard to remember odd count from straight peyote. You make it all look so easy.
Thank you for this tutorial. Everytime I tried odd count peyote, never happened. When you said that it is only the top 5 stitches are involved, my lightbulb went off. No problems now. xx
Thank you! I have watched several different tutorials on odd count peyote trying to figure out that odd turn.....I just was NOT getting the hang of it until I found you tutorial. So clear, and easy to follow. THANKS again :)

just started to learn and love the way you teach it make's it so much easyer to learn i do have a question can you do abstract paterns or is that only for paper ?
angie phelps You can definitely do abstract patterns. I would suggest planning them out on paper first and then working with them in bead form. Yes we do have a free one :) The last image on this project page is a pattern. You can click to see the full sized image. www.beadaholique.com/t-ba-project-N671.aspx
It all depends on how long of a bracelet you want to make, the size of the beads you are using, and your thread tension. I would suggest going to our free project section of our website and finding a similar project and seeing how many tubes of beads are used. Here is a link: www.beadaholique.com/t-ba-bracelet-projects.aspx?UA-cam& As for the thread, that is a personal decision. I like to start with about 6 feet of thread but some people are comfortable with more, others less. Chances are you will have to add more thread as you go.
It's a very nicely explained tutorial but I can't seem to make my stitch right, especially the side where you have to make that "turn". Whenever I do it, the last bead of the second row which is the one that gets anchored through the "odd count turn" always sticks out in a weird way. I've tried it again and again and still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any advice?
I find Nymo D too thin to work with as it tangles and knots easily and I want my piece, aa Peyote ring) to be stiffer. I have used fireline but still find the piece too floppy. Do you have a suggestion? I am using #11 seed beads or delicas. Thank you, Jill
Although it is can be difficult to work with, you can potentially use beading wire: www.beadaholique.com/jewelry-making-supplies/wire/beading-wire However, we recommend using a cord such as Fireline or Nymo because of the flexibility. Thanks for your interest.
Great tutorial! You are a very good teacher. I am very new to bead weaving and you made it very clear to me. I am trying to find free amulet bag patterns with a cross on the Internet but I have not had any success. Do you know where I can find one. Oh! I did subscribe to your channel. Thanks for the tutorial.
Hmmm... I am have not come across that particular pattern myself but there does seem to be just about everything you could ever want free on the internet these days. I would recommend typing in the exact description you just gave me and then adding a word like "blog", "pattern", or "tutorial" at the end. Good luck!
This video is wonderful! I have taught myself to do Peyote even count from your tutorials. Trying to learn from a book is just WAY too hard for me. I also played around with the hollow, tubular peyote last night. I have been using Toho beads because that is all I can get in my area. Its a slim selection at that. I am trying to figure out how to make patterns. I have downloaded a free beading program called BeadTool4. Do you guys use beading programs or do you hand draw a pattern?
Stephanie Carpenter We do both. We either print out a blank peyote graph and hand draw the pattern using colored pencils or we will use a pattern maker and make it on the computer. Both work equally well, just the nice thing about doing it on a computer is nice because you can delete parts of the pattern you don't like without having to start over. This is one of our older projects and we did have a free pattern for it at one point, but it looks like it accidentally got removed when we changed the site's layout. If you e-mail our customer service team at service@beadaholique.com they may be able to find a copy of it for you. Let them know you're trying to find the beading pattern for Project N671. My flat odd count peyote stitch is like yours on the top corners of my work (two top corner end beads in an "up" position). But the bottom of my work has two end beads in a "down" position. My work does not look square because of this.....I could send you a picture....
Hi! I think your video is great, and I'm sure that with a little practice I can learn to do that turn, but I've some questions: Do I have to do that turn in any kind of flat peyote project? Why it is not done in both sides?, what happens if I don't do it? Thanks a lot. Rgrds.
Fannitomo You only have to do the turn around in odd count peyote, not in even count. You only do it on one side. If you do not turn around you will not be able to complete the next row.
+Aria Lynn because of how fabric moves, you would want to create the stitched panel first and then sew it onto the fabric. I think that would help give the stitching more structure and prevent excess wear and tear.
yeah, , thanks I love you guys videos... Also I came across your website a few weeks ago (more recently your vids by accident) I was wondering If you guys are still selling beads and supplies?
+Aria Lynn We sure are :) We sell almost all of the supplies you can see in our videos. You can find listings for the supplies and links to them in the full video descriptions here on UA-cam. Just click "Show More" below the short description. Or if you're on a smartphone just click the arrow next to the video's title.
You can use any kind of seed beads. They will give you a different finished look. Delicas fit together without much space between the beads. Round beads give a different look, with more space and a looser feel.
