- Would you build your house without a level? Then maybe you shouldn’t shoot long range without one either. In this podcast we angle in on riflescope levels, different models, how they work, when to use them, how to use them and more. Truly a next-level listen.
As always, we want to hear your feedback! Let us know if there are any topics you'd like covered on the Vortex Nation™ podcast by asking us on any one of our social media platforms and using #VortexNationPodcast.

My absolute favorite part of these 10minute talks is that the nearly always go way over because everyone actually has insight, opinions and experiences to share, and the conversations are always interesting to listen to. Keep up the great content!
Glad to hear that you're liking them! And glad to hear you don't mind us going over time 😂 We're good at that!
Amen to that. I have noticed that the only time a 10 minute talk lasts only that long is when Jimmy is going solo. However, it is worth going over to enjoy the witty repartee between Jim and Mark.
😂 😂 never a dull moment!
Getting a rifle/scope combo level seems to not be so cut and dry and somewhat subjective, but at the end of the day you need to have the scopes reticle plumb with planet earth/gravity and that isn’t always so easy to tell because of varying landscape, hence the advantages of a properly affixed bubble level, do I have this about right anyone ? 🤔
This is a needed and appreciated discussion in my opinion, good job
Was shopping for some for subsonic use. Had to watch this one.
This was a solid episode. I second the thought of doing a bubble level install.
You can actually shoot scoped rifle with both eyes open (check out "bindon aiming concept"). I tried it at shooting range and as soon as I focused my sight on the reticle, I tried to focus on the left eye instead of the target and I saw a blurry ghost image of the bubble level inside the magnified image. With good conditions (your eye dominance level, training, ambient light), you can use bubble level without closing and opening eyes. Although ambient light was perfect (brighter target, the rest was darker), it took a lot of concentration and eye strain from that was insane.
The send it electronic bubble level is money.
Also, Hawkins Precision scope rings have levels in the top of the rings; offset or centered.
Hell ya the send it is money. I bought it a month or so ago. I’ll never use a spirit level again.
I had been using a wheeler offset level but I changed scopes and it wouldn't fit under the scope. I then switched to a cap with level on it, Nightforce caps. I wasn't sure it would be as good as an offset so I ordered an accuracy 1st level. It took more tilt for the accuracy 1st to show tilt although it would seem to be the opposite. It is coming off today, I am glad I still left the cap with level on it, comparing the two at same time was priceless lol
I use both. Valuable piece of equipment
Have a left side bubble level on my 6.5 CM RUGER PRC and a center REAR SCOPE RING bubble for my 6.5 PRC BROWNING X-Bolt Pro.
BUT.. the ideal level is INSIDE THE SCOPE, as on top end SIG/SAUER scopes and in the BURRIS Eliminator 6.
Great discussion!
At least one competitor's scopes had electronic levels built-in to the reticle and I nearly bought the competitor's scope due to that feature. Glad I bought the Send-it and the Razor instead but it would be REALLY handy (with no downsides) to have that functionality built into the reticle :)
What scope??
great job guys.
It's called buoyancy....
On leveling the bubble: there's a review [online] of the Vortex bubble level and the gentlemen who gave it a negative review did so because he laid the top half of the assembly onto his personal spirit level, of which he assures everyone is of high quality, and the Vortex bubble was off. It wasn't level with his level, must be a bad product.
The fact that this assembly _clamps to the round tube of his scope_ never occurred to him I suppose. I'm not sure how he figured it was supposed to be mounted, maybe he's never worked with a cylindrical object in his life, maybe he lives in rectangle world and we're over here ruining it with circles and curves, I don't know.
Is there a 10 min talk episode about the history of the Scout rifle ?
I think we got you back on a different comment, but we don't specifically have a 10 Minute Talk on that topic. We can add that to our list of ideas! We touch on different riflescopes/set ups in Ep. 102 though!
worked great!
it seems like there should be a way to have a bubble level visible in the scope view - so you could see if you were level while looking through the scope?
Does the spirit level shift over time from vibration and forces from firing the rifle?
Also, what torque "inch lbs" do you tighten it to on the scope tube without damaging the tube?
I level my rifle/scope in a stand using a laser level along the length of the rifle and scope, ensuring the rifle is dead vertical, i then set my bubble level to that. Then you just need to use a plumb downrange to align the reticule relative to the bubble which I now know is perfect, there is no better way to do it...
Cartridge talk on 7.5 Swiss?
We'll certainly add that one to our list of suggestions and see what we can do! Appreciate the idea!
Next go round, do an actual install. That would be primo.
More rifle caliber 10min
chats please
One day soon 325wsm please
I will level with you guys.....NEVER NEVER NEVER LET MARK SING AGAIN.....
😂 😂 😂 😂 we can burn you a CD of his greatest hits if you'd like.
What is the make of the stock used for the example?
In archery we always lean the bow into the wind. Use the bubble for small amounts of wind based off the feel of the wind on your body. Let’s you aim on and execute the shot easier. For big wind we aim off. Our level is in the scope. Why isn’t the level in the reticle of a rifle scope?
Send-it with Brandt Built Concepts ocular.
Is the bubble level mounted on a scoop the same if it is mounted on a picatinny rail.
Hey Enrrique - the bubble level that is mounted to the scope is installed after the riflescope has been mounted level to the rifle.
What about having a level included in the reticle?
I almost bought a Sig Tango 6 over the Razor Gen2 because of the built-in level functionality.....I ended up buying the Razor AND a Send-It instead because of the Vortex warranty that the Sig didn't have.
Can you do the 38-55 or 375 win for the next cartridge review
We can definitely add that! Appreciate the suggestion!
Why is no manufacturer integrating a level in the reticle of the scope? So you don't have to shift your focus.
I still don’t understand why the scope manufacturers don’t build in a bubble leveler…
Nice, I've been thinking about getting one for the Creedmoor. Question; what do you guys recommend for a .22 magnum rifle? Just got a Henry. 22 magnum express that needs a scope. Thanks and keep up the great content.
Get a strike eagle lpvo
On a 22 mag it may not be as big of a deal but watch the parralax specs on optics. You'll likely want closer targets. So avoid things like parallax free at 125 yards.
Depends! What do you plan on using it for primarily?
@@VortexNation Hunting small game and plinking budget about $350 give or take.
Right on! Check out the Diamondback Tactical 4-16x44 - that should be a great match for your set up!
.35 Rem cartridge talk 🙏
We can add that to the list and see what we can make happen for ya! Thanks Todd!
Can that guy give beard tips???
😂 😂 😂
You just have to push extra hard... 🤣
