Lex, consider adding a third audio track for the original language, where you are heard in English and Milei is heard in Spanish, for people who speak both languages. Otherwise, people who know both languages have to listen to a dubbed version of you, or keep flipping the switch.

I am from Argentina and Milei encouraged me to vote for the first time in ages, god bless him! I hope he continues encouraging other countries as well. At the end of his term, when everyone sees how he succeeded , it will encourage the world to end socialism, which is what took Argentina from being a prosperous country to poverty. But please look after him, challenging the establishment comes with risks. Maradona, Messi and now Javier, that's an Argentinian dream team.
I'd really recommend putting some effort into the economic lingo. Mises Institute and FEE amongst others are great places for that Austrian Style. Milton Friedmans Chicago school is always great. Maybe combine it with a more 'conventional' economic education but if you learn it alongside the others you'll pick up when they leap off track a bit. I've found the 'conventional' stuff to be pretty good until they take a wild leap into massive contradiction. (Also a bit suspicious my Lecturer who also wrote the text was a closet Austrian that was toeing the line with what she 'had' to teach along with what she really believed)

The right man in the right place at the right time. After 60+ years of suffering under socialism … the ppl were finally willing to take a chance and vote en masse for something completely different. They had nothing left to lose. In parallel, the government was so corrupt and inept that it couldn’t organize and react to his instant popularity quickly enough to cut off the threat. They were caught off guard. This is what always happens when communism / socialism collapses into disarray. Sudden, jarring change. The difference here vs, say 1991 Russia, is that the figure who come forward to step into the gap was a positive and intelligent one. The ppl of Argentina deserve credit for recognizing that.

@m00rons poverty rates were measured wrong under past governments. Look into the statistics in depth and listen to experts and you'll find the answers if you really want to know 🙏
@@m00rons Basically, it was all thanks to the economy minister of the previous government, together with the worst president in Argentina's history. We had a currency gap of 119% and fixed prices, which means the previous government had an impressive level of repressed inflation that Milei had to address upon taking office. So, if you think about it, the 53% poverty rate was left by the previous government, and what Milei is achieving now is reducing poverty sustainably, with a clear downward trend.

Absolutely, if they want to turn their country into a hellhole? He devalued their currency by 50%. He escalated the poverty rate to over 50% with extreme poverty at 20%. He cut essential services like transport and fuel subsidies, which affects those people the most. The severe austerity measures led to massive job losses. All so he can say "OH WE HAD A FISCAL SURPLUS". What a joke. Lex giving this guy a platform is giving my Russel Brand vibes
@@hrodwulf172 If you're not from Argentina, you should stay quiet-you don’t know what you’re talking about. If you are Argentine, you don’t know either. You’re biased by your ideology and ignore the data. He didn’t devalue the currency: He inherited it at $1207, on the verge of collapse (so much so that many economists predicted $4000-$7000). Now imagine that today it’s at $1135. Not only did he extinguish the fire, but he also cleared the remaining debris. To add to this point, the official dollar gap was 300% before Milei took office, and today the gap is just 10%. If you don’t understand, let me repeat it: a 300% gap meant companies and the agricultural sector that exported earned dollars at $300, but when they had to buy in dollars, they paid $1200-a complete scam. Poverty has been around for years: People eating from garbage, collecting cardboard-are you so blind you deny this? Previous governments hid everything, including poverty statistics, in shameful ways. When Milei took power, he exposed the numbers he inherited-the poverty that has been building over 20 years of corruption by mafioso politicians. And Milei is to blame for this? Are you blind or just an idiot? Subsidies and cuts were necessary: Socialist/communist governments give everything for free, but nothing is truly free-the money has to come from somewhere. To provide low-cost services for part of the population, they robbed the future, ensuring long-term harm to everyone. Today’s benefits at the expense of tomorrow’s well-being. The reality is that services at a higher but fair price are sustainable only if citizens are wealthier. If citizens have good jobs and earn well, they can afford them. Understand? Basic economics-bravo. The cuts are tough but necessary: Many of the layoffs came from an earlier government that hired three times more people than needed-a strategy to win votes. The reality is that no country can sustain spending more than it earns. Would you run your household by earning $2000 and spending $6000? What happens if you do? You’d have to sell your house. Again, basic economics. But you can’t seem to understand it because you’ve been programmed to be ignorant and don’t even realize you’re being used.

I'm Argentine. Milei is the BEST president I've ever had. By far. Nobody predicted he would do SO MUCH in so little time. Incredible. All my friends and family think the same. It's inspiring to see how much the world is talking about Milei and Argentina. Thank you, Lex!
I was born in the states, but my parents are Argentinean LEGAL immigrants. For years, I've contemplated moving back to the motherland, but because of Milei, my family is now in the process of it. Very excited and am glad to have both Trump and Milei as leaders while I make this transition. Praying for both. Thank you, Lex! Fantastic interview.

From Argentina I can tell you Milei has done more than any politician .. inflation going down, rent prices down, food is more affordable, mortages loans are back.. our currency is getting stronger every day. Thank you Javier for bringing back hope!
If you simply Google metrics from Argentina you will know inflation is at a record high this year. So is poverty. There's some economists who predict it will change. But the reality right now is worse than it was before.
@@lidolivedGoogle the metrics After Milei came into Power. Yes, If you take inflation from the last 12 months, It still pretty high, but you have to compare It with what He got from his predecessor, not with a First World country. It is going down month After month.

It feels nice to speak multiple languages and to be able to switch back and forth between English and Spanish during this interview, capturing the original essence of this magnificent conversation.
Javier is much more educated and well-read than I had expected.. I thought he was a populist with radical economic ideas, but this guy is intently convinced he knows exactly what he's doing and he's able to explain his reasoning logically. Good on him.
The quality of an interview is defined by the interviewer. GG, Lex Fridman. This has been Javo's best interview so far, and what you're doing is truly remarkable. I hope you keep bringing your vision to life. 👏
I wish this was the case. A strong interviewer would have challenged him on some very challengeable points. For context I am a fan of Lex and even Milei, and he may be exactly what Argentina needs, but some of his beliefs need serious conversations and counter points, otherwise this is just a monolog...
As an Argentine and long-time fan of the podcast, this episode really hit home for me...I can't wait to dive into it. Lately, I've become a firm believer that open dialogue and the exchange of ideas are the only way forward, no matter where you stand-right, left, or center. I truly hope those who believe in his path are proven right, because the alternative would only bring more pain, poverty, and suffering. Here’s to hoping we come out of this stronger, together, as a nation.
I must say I had some negative preconceived notions about him but by the end of the interview, it changed. I think he is a good man, very pragmatic, logical and straightforward. I wish him the best.

I think this right here is the greatest missed point that USA libertarians miss. There is a hyperfocus on the Federal Reserve as the great bogeyman, but all of the problems (and conspiracy theories,) attributed to it can more easily be explained by the excessive size and spending of the Treasury. The impacts that can be blamed on the Federal Reserve are the consequence, not the cause. The runaway excess of the Federal Government is the real problem. The #1 metric we should be focused on is Federal spending as a % of GDP. That alone is the greatest indicator of how good or bad our government is doing.
@@Meton2526 You're right but don't forget the Fed is what enables the excessive spending of the government. Fed prints money and gives it to banks who buy the government bonds to finance the spending. When that wasn't enough they bought the bonds directly with QE.
@@Meton2526Could you explain a bit further? I guess the point I’m failing to understand is how less spending would be advantageous. When we spend money, it doesn’t go away but rather it circulates. So how would keeping the money stationary benefit an economy? Obviously where you spend the money is very important but why would less across the board be helpful?
Argentina is such a rich country with so lovely people but it is so fucked up after decades of Peronism. It's a shame. I really hope and pray they will overcome their complex social economic situation.

Agree. Nayib Bukele, El Salvadors president is also a breath of fresh air !

Man; seeing Libertarians finally having a model for success on the nation state level is wild. This is awesome to see
I'd argue that that was the good ol' USA, but I can understand everyone there not feeling it anymore...

Libertarians are too passive in the USA. Liberals hijacked the libertarian movement and made them a bunch of wishy washy weenies.

Was not Mijeil Saakashvili kind of a "georgian Milei"?
@@jsam1446
Saakashvili came in during a really tough time for Georgia and started off strong with some solid pro-Western reforms, especially cracking down on corruption. But he was never a libertarian like Milei. Over time, things got more authoritarian-freedom of speech was pretty much gone, the market wasn’t free, and businessmen who didn’t play by his rules often ended up in jail. Violence became more common during his later years in power. He’s leadership was all about control

@@m00rons watch the interview. The poverty has been declining and didnt really go up. Price controls hide the real poverty rate

“The real tax burden is the size of the state.” Truer words…
When we spend money, it doesn’t go away but rather it circulates. bars on all the windows graffiti n trash n gang drive around on motorbikes truly a paradise military police at every toll booth so lovely n rich they cant even afford a gallon of paint the graffiti is from 1980
@@andrewhobbs255 You speak so freely about Argentina as if you had been born here. That we can't afford paint to cover graffiti? hahaha What a ridiculous character, now it turns out that there are no rich countries in Europe that are full of graffiti on their walls? Shut up, clown
Things are turning around. And is sustainable on the long term

It's so important and game changing to have these conversations available in Spanish, thank you Lex.
Spaniard here. Milei is my hero. We are already seeing the results of his policies in controlling inflation, and I hope he manages to achieve his full program to help make our Argentine brothers great again
Far from that country. You are lucky to have him probably God's send from heaven, he is a genius
Thank you for making Javier Milei's thought and accomplishments accessible to more Americans.
