No.3 is good for native languages. You can still learn about your native languages even if you're not learning it directly. A good example of this is in Spanish. Anything ending in -ation is the exact same as in Spanish,you just have to change the ' t ' into a ' c ' and the ' o ' into an ' ó '. This way I realised that words ending in -ation come from Latin. This was while I was learning Spanish.
