Nice video Jessie - pretty much agree with everything you said. These were my thoughts - In a game we didn't win, we did a lot of good things. Last year we loose that game by 60-80 points - I thought our tightening in Q3 was really good, we have struggled against transition and that really improved - Ryan and Brockman on ball worked well and I love the idea of us having more rotations long term - I am big fan of Maric's field kicking and having someone tall on a wing gives another good outlet -TB was epic - Allen clearly worked his way into the game, JD contributed and Jake W was great again - Agree on Chesser and Ginbey, they are both becoming solid players
We lost the opportunity to the win the game in the third quarter. I felt this while watching us dominant forward half possession. I think we kicked something like 5 goals 6 points and we missed other chances to hit targets due to poor delivery. Just my thoughts as I think had we gone in with a deserved 4 goal lead at the last change we win the game. Very enjoyable to watch though.
Great review. Lots of positives. A few things to add. - Flynn was horrendous. Zero impact around the ground, very slow hand to foot, got continually rag dolled by Draper and dump kicks to no one. - A big contributor to our lack of forward pressure is our height which is well documented. Darlings agility is so poor once the ball hits the ground and he often let his opponent get off him and intercept. There’s no point in having him now with Allen and Waterman. - Jones disposal is so poor, he just doesn’t provide enough to make up for it. Continually misses 25m kicks not under pressure and always gives away 1-2 silly free kicks. He’s been the same for years.
We’re desperately short of a Lewis Jetta / Dan Houston/ Amon type running half back who can open up the game with one elite kick, I think witherden was supposed to be it but hasn’t worked out IMO. Our possession retention coming out from the back half isn’t great so would rather see us target that type of player in the off season than another mid.
Totally agree, I think more recently they were also hoping Jamaine Jones would fill that role. He has shown potential, but just lacks polish. I wonder if Brockman would be worth trialling in that role?
Maric is another one that could benefit from a run down back. We need to keep developing guys there and sometimes put a bit of inexperience. He is a perfect example of a young guy that could play a role there and it may help his forward play anyway long term.

Today's West has quite a bit about the Eagles today. They are assessing who will stay and go at season end. Also about how Simmo threw the magnets around. I think Pyke has done a series of interviews with seven west, but they are only releasing a minute of the interview at a time. I'd like to see you assess who will stay and could go at season end. Then revisit it in 10 weeks time at season end. I think Haselby has also commented on it, but haven't read it yet.
I have never considered him to be up to AFL standard Don't think he would get a game at most other clubs can't knock his effort but he just isn't good enough

Needs to learn when his role in an aerial contest is literally to compete/spoil rather than taking the mark. Oscar did it several times on Sunday, he just punched/spoilt and brought it to ground when he knew he couldnt mark it.
Yours are forgetting he is still only young give him time to learn his new position and grow with time and he will be good for us plus it’s the first time we have had 2 rucks for awhile so that’s different for the whole team, we just need to keep going with the 2 rucks it will work for us like it has in the past
Defending transition from D50 is continuing to just kill us... means our mids are just chasing tail and tiring, picking such a tall forward line certainly didnt help either
I think we really Brockman as that small forward with pace creating defensive pressure. I think we need to get him and Petch into the middle to free them up at times. Ryan is going well there too. Hunt has really struggled since his toe. I like him as an offensive wingman, but with his form dropping away he needs a week or two at half back. I think Jones should be there too. Duggan will need to then play up the field. We just can't keep stacking our defence. We need to expose guys and develop players down back too. Duggan can really assist the midfield and with his defensive pressure allows forward running midfielders to get a decent run there.
Well played Eagles. Doesn’t matter where you guys are on the ladder, you always give us grief. Only concern for building Eagles is that you still rely on a lot of older guys. You have some up and coming stars, Waterman, Reid, even your captain, but I worry where you go when the older players leave. Need to get aggressive in the trade/ free agency market and bring in some quality 24-27 year olds.
It was looking good, until Essendon got three right at the end. We were without Harley and Kelly. Plus we were away, but sometimes we look like the 23 coast.
its just little periods where we seem to fall asleep and forget that we're on the field and they kick 2-3 in a row and the game looks out of hand quickly
I think we were a bit lucky, we didn’t get hardly any frees paid against us for the entire night and got pretty lucky with the umps that led to a few of our goals. And Essendon had their best mid out too.
No, the bombers game is not next week:) The bombers play a pretty oppressive game. To score almost a hundred against them with the list available, this is a very good effort. With a full side in, they will trouble everyone except maybe Sydney in the comp on their day.

Think he's played at least one decent game from memory 🤔 😂 Seriously though, Sheed can have form slumps but can and has been a very good player. I remember in 2018 he was struggling and dropped to the wafl. He got another chance late in the year when gaff got suspended and played extremely well for the rest of the year.
Do you think that Witherden needs to have a colour blindness test? At least twice, he kicked the ball directly to an Essendon player, "missing" his Eagles team mate by 5-10 metres.
I think he does the tough stuff really well, going back for marks and winning the hard ball. He just seems to make bad decisions by foot. But I wonder if that's what the coaches are telling him to do, and he just doesn't quite have the skills to execute? We need someone down back with a good leg
He had one to forget on the weekend, but a couple weeks ago he was excellent kicking from defence. He's also a competitor, and we need that mongrel he brings. Worth persevering with IMO
