  • Here are the 12 places we think first-time Rome travelers shouldn't miss!
    Vatican
One of the most popular landmarks in Rome, visiting the Vatican City is a priority for most first-time travelers. The world’s smallest state, it's steeped in history and is located in the heart of the Italian capital.
Among the most famous sights of the Vatican certainly are Saint Peter's Square designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Saint Peter's Basilica packed with artwork including Michelangelo's La Pietà and Bernini's bronze Baldacchino canopy, the Basilica's dome designed by Michelangelo, and obviously the wonderful Vatican Museums, one of the world's largest museums home to the Sistine Chapel and Raphael's Rooms among the other wonders.
The best time to visit the Vatican Museums is either early morning or three hours before closing time. There are many guided or private tours that also include a skip-the-line ticket. These are recommended especially during the high season.

    Castel Sant'Angelo
Located in front of St. Peter’s Square, right at the end of the long Via della Conciliazione, Castel Sant'Angelo or the Hadrian Mausoleum is a very interesting building and historical site to explore and not to miss if it's your first time in Rome.
Today it can be visited either independently or with guided tours. It doesn't have the long line of the Vatican but I think it's a must.
It's connected to the city center through the wonderful Ponte Sant'Angelo bridge. Our video entirely about this bridge: • Ponte Sant'Angelo - Al...

    Colosseum
Symbol of Rome, one of Europe’s most famous iconic landmarks, it’s impossible not to be visiting the Colosseum if it’s your first time in Rome. With thousands of tourists standing in line every day, carefully planning your visit is a must, especially in the high season.
The tickets to the Colosseum also include entrance to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Parco Archeologico del Colosseo has recently updated their ticketing system giving you the possibility to buy your entrance directly from their website ticketing.colosseo.it
If you prefer a more in-depth visit, you can book a tour with a local expert, historian or archaeologist.
