Hello. I live in Russia. There is no video here that will help a beginner. I also watched a lot of videos on English. And I want to say seriously, you are the best in the whole internet :D Really. your tips are very practical, thank you.
I have been sewing much longer than you have been alive. You have made a really great beginner video commenting on lots of really important areas that will help new sewers. All the techniques you spoke of should be investigated thoroughly. I suggest picking up painters drop cloths at hardware stores or thrift stores for sheets and remnants for beginners to practice on. You’re a great teacher.
(0:45), I had to laugh (at myself) because I have always had an interest and passion to learn how to sew my entire life. Now, retired at age 54, I have finally pursued my dream on my bucket list. I have spent hundreds of hours online researching and learning how to sew. I have pages upon pages upon pages of notes, everything from how the sewing machine works, different types of fabrics, how to read a pattern, how to draft a pattern, different tools needed for sewing, how to use a serger, on and on and on! I feel pretty knowledgeable now but still haven't "pulled the trigger" by sewing a stitch on the machine because I seemed to have a little voice inside of me that keeps telling me that I am "not ready yet" that I need more information and knowledge to sew. Just recently I was fortunate enough to find a sewing club to join in my area and the host asked me what my skill level was. I told her that "I've never stitched one stitch before" but everyone kept being so surprised with my level of knowledge as if I am a pro. So I finally caved in and stitched a toiletry bag. My first project EVER!
I use a magnet. I keep my heel on the ground too. These were great tips! I Accidentally used the straight stitch on my first knit project. And I found out the same way you did... I did the wrong stitch!😅😢😅😢 I'm not a beginner, but I still struggle with garment construction so I go to the school of UA-cam to learn!😊❤😊 Allied skills. 😊😊😊 The cutting on the fold advice was new and great for me. Thank you. " Nah, Ah, honey, the trick is smuthering it with a hot iron until it bends to your will!!!!😅😅😅 Great Tip!!!
You said this is just for beginners, but you know what? I've been sewing for years and a) there always seems to be a new tip in there and b) affirmation of the good stuff always feels good. You're doing great! plus you have an enjoyable sense of humour. Thanks for posting :)
I love your down to earth advice about sewing. I know someone who would like to start sewing, and when she is ready to get going, this video is going to be on the playlist I am making for her.
Very good points! My only wish is that I had a speed control on my machine to keep it at an even pace. It can be tricky to go around curved edges without worrying about applying too much pressure on the foot pedal causing a possible disaster. thank you for sharing your experience with us - younger and older sewists can benefit from you knowledge.
I feel you, I struggle with curves as well. Some of the newer computerized machines have speed control dials that can really help, but otherwise there's the whole "start and then stop every few seconds", haha.

Thank you so much, your comment made my day!! Painters drop cloths is a great idea.

This is such useful information and, as a beginner, I found it strangely comforting. Thank you!

Just subscribed. I love your dry sense of humor....stay funny!
I have been sewing from 1964! The tips you gave and how you explained them is priceless! I hope to see more from you. Thank you, a new subscriber 👍🏽
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. I have some new videos coming soon :)

Thanks so much :') You're right, there is always more to learn!

This vid is for me. Thank you so much! Most presenters on UA-cam pitch to good sewers. Keep them coming.
Thank you SO MUCH! I’ll watch everything. Have been sewing for years, but not as wisely as you teach. Do you have an app? 1 February 2023.
Aw, you made my day, thank you! No, I don't have an app, just UA-cam for now :)
This is super comprehensive! I started sewing a few years ago and I agreed with everything.😊 I also feel the same way about pressing haha.
Hahaha, yup, why is it so important but also so annoying?! (re: pressing)

So well said. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for to teach my 14 yo granddaughter. I hope to see more videos from you! 😊
Amazing! I love that you're teaching your grand-daughter how to sew :)
