Who are Kara and Nate?!
Watch our documentary here: • 100th COUNTRY DOCUMENTARY
Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married 2013 and were super “normal.” I was a teacher and Nate started a small printing business from the spare bedroom of our apartment.
We discovered the world of “travel hacking” while planning our honeymoon & became addicted ;)
So after 2 years of obsessively saving $35k and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016 for a “one year” trip around the world.
Our goal was to see as many places as possible before we ran out of money and went back home to “normal life.” We started this channel to share our experiences with friends and family, but quickly fell in love with living on the road and found a new passion for capturing our travels through video. So we did everything we could to keep going.
4 years later, we achieved our new goal of visiting 100 countries and all 7 continents. We had no plans to slow down, until 2020 forced us to ;) Which is when we bought a converted van to start exploring our own country for the first time!
After ~2 years of van life, we are back to full time international traveling! And now we are finding the best adventures the world has to offer :)
We are incredibly grateful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. 😊🎥🌎 Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our journey!
So proud of you guys!!! You didn't just survive, you SUR-THRIVED!

Indeed they did!! 😊
Hi kara and nate
Loved watching Nate's parents holding hands, building the shelter, and seeing their sheer awe at things, like the whales breaching at sunset. I see where Nate gets his desire to experience the world, and also wanting to share it with Kara.
Frr
nah frrrr
Unbroken homes are amazing. Thank God for that. 🙏🏼❤️☺️
🤍🤍🤍🤍
❤❤❤❤
That's a raft for a FAD (fish attracting device) that would normally be found anchored offshore. Structure will naturally attract small fish for shelter and this begins the food chain associated with this raft. In the Solomons the big tuna boats deploy these and, after a while, large schools of tuna can be found feeding off of the fish underneath!
I agree, it was a FAD that has washed ashore🎉. Thanks Captain
Pin this comment pls Kara and nate
Thanks for clarifying!!!
Thanks!!
Nate’s parents seem completely unshaken by these circumstances. I think they’ve been through a lot and are just so comfortable with being in the moment and being with each other that all other instability just doesn’t make them waiver. They are so sweet!!
The editing in this video feels so similar to older ones. So relaxed and not trying to be too hype or attention grabbing. I love it. It feels more authentic.
I agree, I LOVED this video
Nates parents are so beautiful. His dad reminds me of mine, who has been gone for 12 years. It's just making me smile so big. You guys are stacking up such incredible memories. Tell them that we appreciate them!
❤
👍
Reminds me of my Dad too, huge outdoors man whom I did lots of adventures with. Past a few years ago sadly, but smiles as well 😊
Nate's parents carried
I love how the parents embraced the challenge. After the first episode I was worried they may tap. But they look much more comfortable. Love seeing yall thrive together. ❤ from Bama
You can see where Nate gets his positive energy and practicality from ❤
After watching you both the last four years I've decided you'd rock a season on either survivor or amazing race. I love your vibe and seeing the world through your camera lenses.
Yes!! Petition for The Amazing Race!!!!!!
YES!!! Amazing Race!!!!
Why would they go on Survivor or amazing race, when they have their own channel of hundreds of videos of their trips to 105 countries. Survivor would be a step down from what they are doing.
@@TheresaPowers I agree Survivor would be a step down. But Nate would love the competitive nature of The Amazing Race.
And they could win a million dollars to help continue their world wide travels.
Now you need to to take them on a luxurious camping trip best breakfast dinner and Cocktails since they survived your crazy ideas
I love how affectionate Nate's parents are with each other. Walking down the beach holding hands, cuddled together watch the sunset....so romantic. ❤❤❤
Wow, Nate your parents are wonderful, I feel like seeing them together is like seeing you and Kara in the distant future. Just adorable ❤
YEESSS! I have been waiting for part 2 and it’s finally here!!❤🎉
Same!!
SAMEE!!!🎉🎉🎉

So proud of Nate's parents and the both of you for surviving on this island.
Nate's MOM is so chill. Both women are both super positive and just smiley personalities. Beautiful
Your parents are A-MAZING😊
Your Dad is just that silent guy who just gets s***t done and your mom, total Earth Queen. Have so much respect for them both 👏👏👏👏
Y’all are absolute legends!! (Can you tell I’ve been watching Kinging It😆) I love that you got to do this with Nate’s parents, these are memories that will last forever between you guys!! The final sunset with the breaching whales and the double rainbow was magical✨ I can only imagine how bed feels after a trip like this, how a warm drink feels going down, how scrumptious food is, not being fish or coconut😆 The gratitude after a trip like this is probably indescribable. Props to you guys!!!
Stay you ✌🏼
I'm sure that Kara and Nate will be just like his parents. Still holding hands and cuddling after decades together.
Amazing experience guys!! Absolutely incredible to watch, especially with Nates parents joining. Also great to hear laughter and jokes still after 4 days of exhaustion. You guys are so inspiring!
This has been one of the best videos yet!! Crazy to see how far you guys have come!
Yay finally part 2 love you guys! ❤ this looks amazing! You two are very real, you include the good, the bad, and the ugly, thank you for your continued hard work, and good to see you with your parents Nate! They are very inspiring!
Your parents are amazing! Watching them hold hands and leaning on each other to watch the sunset is beautiful. Goals! Loved seeing them ❤ in this video! Your dad catching the first crab and your mom’s idea for a hammock is so cool!
Thank you so much nate for always taking those smoth drone shot
I love it. “ don’t eat me”….. Kara I love the “ home tour” and your and Nate’s humor is priceless! I look forward to your videos every week. By the way having your “ 60 year old” parents was a nice touch. They look in amazing shape, not bad!. Thoroughly enjoyed this series of videos……….Again🤪❤️❤️❤️
Ahhh I’m soooo excited to watch this!! Also I may or may not have got my entire family hooked on y’all’s channel 🫣😁
Also HOLY COW that seashell on the table is GINORMOUS!
What a tremendous experience! Love it ! Beautiful scenery… island home, water, beach, sunsets and sunrises… you’ve caught it all!
Your parents are the best and your time with them so sweet!
Thank you Kara and Nate💕
You guys' ability to improvise never ceases to amaze me.
Love Kara and Nate but was anyone else annoyed that Nate didn't turn the camera when the whale came out of the water!
His parents seem like wonderful people.
Kara and Nate really did thrive because of their parents expertise!
These videos are so fun! Can't wait to see the next survival video
Another truly epic, Kara & Nate adventure! Bringing James & Christie along made it even better! The sunsets were absolutely gorgeous 😍
Nate's parents are awesome! Also, Nate's dad's accent reminds me of how Nate spoke in the early videos lol. the good old days. Love you guys!!!
22:08 Nate “Hunger is the best sauce” 💯💯💯
Kara and Nate, you all did amazingly. Given more time I’m sure you would have improved your shelter, sleeping arrangements, and broadened your hunting and foraging options. 96 hours is a feat but the longer you went the more you figured out. That first couple days would be the hardest as you establish basic essentials but after that you get to improve on your tools and knowledge of your surroundings to make it all even better. Well done
Bluey!!! 💙 Aww. I never doubted that you could make it but this was definitely better than the first one! I felt sad seeing you take down the shelter and cleaning up the camp site. Nate's parents are so awesome and I can only imagine the memories that you will cherish forever. ❣ Well done to the Buchannans!
Wow Nate, your parents are Legends!
This video is so calming!
Yay!🎉 Your officially Survivors!! Your parents have proven to be some of the older, kindest, strongest people I've seen in so long ❤. Absolutely loved this ❤
Y’all are amazing for sharing your entire life with us.I’ll really feel like I’m there with every video!!
That’s amazing to hear 🥰
I found you guys not that long ago from FB reels. I decided to find you on youtube and started watching from the beginning a few months back. Your zest for life and adventure had me hooked! I have waited until I got the very last video before commenting to tell you that you have help change my life and my outlook. I have been well out of shape for years and live in chronic pain. Recently my husband and I both have started doing yoga and learning to eat smarter. We have teenagers that we are on the verge of getting them raised and becoming independent and we have big plans for our future and I realized after watching everything you have so exuberantly been able to experience that we too want to find our own adventures and live in the moment. Thank you Nate for planning some of the most epic adventures I didn't even know were available for us to all get to live vicariously through you. Thank you Kara for being that shining light and beacon of positivity, inspiration and pure joy. I can't wait to continue to see you thrive and open up the world to us all.
I came to the comments to praise Nate's parents and I see I'm not the only one to do so ❤ they're so cute and lovable!
Nate, your parents are a class act!!
I can’t be the only one who LOL when Kara said “ How do you catch crabs!” 😂😂
😂
"I'm feeling the crab and green bean energy" -- I love those Karaisms SO much.
Nate’s parents are amazing!! Y’all’s videos always make me so happy. 😊❤️
Love that despite not having coffee, Nate brings kara coconut water in bed. Good and appreciative women like Kara are absolutely worth the effort! ❤
I am still in awe that you have travelled to my Grandads Island of Ha’apai 😍 Please tell me that my beautiful Motherland of Samoa is on your list soon.. 😉🫶🏽 Love you guys!
Petition to have K&N bring Ben from Simplynailogical on either a island challenge or a vacation someday!
Well done, you were thriving out there! 7-14 days & you would've really had a set up going. Shout out to your parents, Nate 🎉 Not many 60 year olds would take on that challenge. Can't wait for your next adventure...thanks for taking us along (oh & I loved watching you on The Unplanned Podcast)❤ ❤
This has been my absolute favorite adventure to watch you guys in!! 😊 y’all did amazing and watching the family together was such a nice treat ❤ thank you for letting me travel through you and laugh the along way. You both are truly special people 26:05
How are Nate's parents so bloody fit and toned! WOW! X BTW, well done crew! You nailed it as always :)
Your authenticity is so dang refreshing.
Idk why but I got all teary eyed at the end of this. So proud of yall! Idk how the hell you do it. I would most definitely be the weakest link Kara so don't feel bad lol. I would be worthless. The bond yall formed with Nate's parents and each other by doing this is a beautiful thing to witness. I can see why Nate turned out as wonderful as he did now after seeing them 💜💚
This one really was awesome! Nate’s parent’s are my favorite people you’ve ever had on with you in your adventures, they both have so many talents and information that add to “survival” and not to forget, “strength of Character”!! When I was a kid, we did these adventures where we disappeared for days in the Summer on horseback with nothing except a “Pan” that we didn’t carry with us. It was great fun and we ate lots of Corn on the Cob, that I realize now was what we called “feeder corn”, meaning that it’s meant for feed, or milling into Cornmeal and it’s got big kernels that are a bit tough! I don’t know how you guy’s continue to come up with such great idea’s, and I can’t wait for the next one! And to think, we started out watching sailing videos and now our favs are you guy’s and “Kinging It”, which I originally thought was a channel for “materialistic” type people! LOL!
Your sweet mama. “It was lovely” 🥺🥺 I love how positive everyone stayed!!
I watched you guys being interviewed by Matt and Abby and loved it! The question regarding appropriate behavior in different cultures, I have always found you guys to be so respectful of other cultures and traditions, even in the early days. I remember in one video you were watching monks walk in a line down the street and all the other tourists were in their faces taking pictures, you sat respectifully across the street and gave them their space. I was so impressed by that!
I love to live vicariously through your videos!! Keep it up, your content is amazing :)
It’s crazy how different this video was than last year’s video. This was so much more fun to watch! This island actually had coconuts and fish and last year I think it was downright irresponsible for them to have dropped you off in the middle of thousands of crabs 🦀 😖 You guys were such troopers to do this again!
The most amazing thing about this is the gratitude you feel at having gotten through this hard thing.
The hammock and yall fishing together warmed my heart. So proud of yall. Thank you for keeping me happy when I can't provide it for myself. Much love 🫶
y"all deserve so much happiness and love
I so enjoyed this 2 part video. You all did such an amazing job of building a "home" and fishing for dinner every night. Would love to see a video of your first night of a soft bed after a hot shower, and then the morning coffee!!
Same
Bluey is a beautiful specimen of a kingfisher! 💙
Awesome video as always Kara and Nate. This was a awesome survival challenge video Nate's parents are so awesome can't wait for the next adventure.
next time you should try to do your caffeine detox the week before, just to see how much your weakness and feeling shitty is just from that. easier said than done though, i know.
We thought about it 🤪
Good idea!
I feel like Kara should know by now that if she treated with a luxury vacay then a survival trip is right around the corner
What a special gift to spend this time with your family. Amazing memories made you'll talk about for ages to come. xx
Nate your parents are the cutest. I see you and Nate like that in 30 years and still traveling. This was great. I love how y’all’s accent came back while hanging out with them.
you ALL are just sooo INCREDIBLY..... baller. Like, SUCH respect for each of you. Nate's parents were absolute heroes. My dad would have absolutely LOVED doing this. I'm reminded of my dad and I's insane adventures together every moment of watching you guys and your travels, and it brings SUCH comfort, joy, and memories I'd forgotten about until seeing something in your videos that sparks a memory. I'm so grateful. Thank you. Man, THIS, though. This is REALLY something else..... I..... I think I want........ to do a survival expedition now???????
PS, my dad did Outward Bound as a kid in the 70's, (they made those kids do some INSANEEEE stuff back in the day - but my dads stories were EVERYTHING in my childhood). He had to do a SOLOOOOO, 3 day survival trip totally alone on a little island off the coast of New York at the age of 12. They were just given their pack containing basic supplies like a knife, and some rope. INSANE. but so cool. way too young, but.... again, his stories...........
Thanks Allie!! GO FOR IT 😍
I love how Nate’s parents actually agreed to do this really hard challenge
I cant believe how much Nate’s Mom and Dusty look alike. So cute!!
Nate's parents are amzing. I can see now why Nate is also so amazing. Kara just completes the bunch. I love you all so much. thank you for sharing!!!!
Excited to watch this, guys! Love that you took Nate's parents on this adventure. :) I'd love to see some behind the scenes (how you prepared for this, etc.!). I make videos about Switzerland, so if you ever come back here, let me know, I'd be your guide. :)
I think Nate’s parents were the difference between life and death on this trip lol they were made for this!
Bluey the bird is a kingfisher! How cool you got to see him everyday 🤗
I have looked forward to this vlog soooo much and honestly it’s satisfying to see you guys complete challenges like a pro ❤
Nate, your parents are awesome!! You guys are rocking these survival challenges and looks like you’re increasing the level of difficulty each time! Well done Buchanan family! Thankyou for taking us on this adventure, even if vicariously.
What an awesome episode. Y'all killed it, and Nate, your parents are adorable.
This is the Kara and Nate that had me binging all of your previous seasons.
Welcome back.
Kara and Nate that was so awesome Nate's parents are warriors . Not only survived but thrived wow so impressive
I swear Nate's dad is JACKED
I think Nate's parents provided a level of creativity and experience that made me a little jealous I wasn't there.
Now you all need a super luxury experience to recover! I love that Kara is already talking about doing it again 😂
I loved this series!! You all did such a good job, I know I wouldn’t be able to last one night doing that! 😂 love Nate’s parents, such pure love they have! Need to see them in more videos 😊😊
Yesss!!! I was waiting for part 2! I love these series, your parents are such troopers!
the reason you had grown pretty fond of your fish dinners is because every 7 days your taste buds reset so your taste buds got used to the fishy flavor
Now it’s time for Kara to pick out an adventure she would like to do! ❤
Lol I feel sometimes that's why she does the crazy wild challenges
Nate's parents are so cool and awesome! Next adventure with Kara and Nate with Kristy and James! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I’m living for this. I can’t travel anymore due to a sick mom, so I’m vicariously living through you guys. Ty. ❤
Wow! It would have been amazing to see whales breaching...too bad you couldn't turn the camera around. Just had to film yourself, huh?
Please don't show your faces while freaking out about the sunset and whales. Show us what you are seeing.
Right?!?! I'm like turn the dang camera around! U don't need to describe it, just show us! Lol
Like it was all an act
Exactly.
Strongly disagree. A nice mix is perfect. I get joy from their joy.
You can just tell that Nate mum and dad are good people.. Love that southern accent its so warm and welcoming.
Nates parents were so helpful and the sweetest. Such kind humans and loving towards each other as well ❤ they had amazing teamwork building the shelter and getting food ! Loved them more videos with them soon hopefully ❤❤❤❤
No offense, but I would have rather watched the whales breaching instead of watching your faces watching the whales breaching. 🤷🏻♀️
If you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say it. ✋😑
You guys are amazing. You inspire me to get out of my comfort zone and try new adventures. You both have grown so much. Just started rewatching from the beginning ❤.
I always get excited to see y’all’s new videos! Also loved the camp sign! Love from Texas!❤
What a fantastic adventure! I love to see you interact with family and friends, especially when they share your enthusiasm. Nate, your parents are phenomenal! I hope they will continue to join you on you journeys. 💞
I love you guys. Took me through so dark times. Thank you both.
What an experience Nate was able to share with his parents!!! Memories for a lifetime. ❤
It was the coconut bras for me. 😂😂😂😂😂 I look forward to all of yall's videos. They are actually theraputic. Often, I have trouble sleeping. After prayer, I think back on one of your many amazing adventures and off to dream land I go. Thanks for sharing your lives us viewers. ❤❤
Had so much fun watching this adventure, adore Nate's parents and his mom just rocks. Thanks for taking us along.
Nate’s parents are a pure experience:)
