An extra format clock tip: When you have made a number of rotations, create a spread sheet with the hours in the colums and the days in the rows. Then put in the spread sheet which rotations gonna play where. This way you can make sure that you're not using the same rotation back to back or at the same time every day . And it is also a good way to create an overview if you e.g. runs a special program or rotation at certain times.
For some formats, B sides are great. I just know my peeps dig the hits. Personally, when I listen to other 80s stations, I'm not a fan of the esoteric stuff. However, I think you can make B sides work with the right set-up/branding. Make a feature out of them...tell a quick backstory to help engage people. Now, I'm coming around! 😀
Hi Jeff, Gary Pratz here...I love everything you post. I have acquired a cheap PC with windows so I can get into Radio DJ but I haven't had any luck getting it to work on the cheap laptop. Is there anything you can think of that I could try to get the program to work. I get frustrated with it and give up for a while. Then I hear your station and want mine to sound as professional as yours. I am a Mac guy and can't stand windows. I am familiar with music rotations and format clocks from my radio days in the early 70's. I think I told you of my dilemma with working with clock wheels to obtain the desired results as so much of the features are run randomly and I hear repeats with these as well as same songs repeating several times during the day. I have a good number of selections for everything I want to run. My features that I run are: Fun trivia, 60's History, Joke of the day, Hits promos and What's Happening (Community Events).I have a lot of different jingles and station ID's so it doesn't sound the same. The thing I really miss is voice over intros. This is probably TMI, but thanks for all that you do. I try to soak in as much as I can. I work on my station daily trying to keep it fresh. Being retired does have advantages.
Thank you so much for the format clock. It's a must!

Yes, good tip! I find it much easier to scan all rotations in a spreadsheet to see how each meshes with each other.
Endlessly fascinating.
Better than Ambien!
