Ibrahim had no intention of "helping Mehmet" ... he had openly favored Mustafa for years, and most everyone knew it. Mehmet is only 15 years old here, still young for a sanjak, but the sneaky Ibrahim plays on his insecurities here, making him think his father doesn't trust him. Ibrahim wanted Mehmet AND Hurrem away from Sulieman, and he (and others) had tried everything else. This was another big mistake on Ibrahim's part. Hurrem is right when she points out to Sulieman, (in a later episode, when he tells her Ibrahim will train and guide Mehmet), that Ibrahim would never promote anyone but Mustafa for the throne.
It pain me greatly how Ibrahim is playing with Mehmet's mind here Especially when the young prince is showing so much respect and admiration towards him
Ibrahim made Mehmet think his father didn't trust him enough & that's wrong. Especially after he told how Suleman chose him to be his comrade when he was young like Mehmet & has been by his side ever since. Ibrahim makes too many mistakes! They're going to catch up to him quickly!!

Actually Suleyman wanted to protect Mehmet because even if Mehmet is innocent, people automatically link him with his mother and is working against him. Suleyman might be afraid that Mehmet is too trusting and can get manipulated immediately by anyone so he would rather Mehmet stay by his side instead of being ravage by wolves around him in a far away land.
