Take care Jon. Hope next week will be a better one. I actually like the Tomatin 12 - a lovely gentle and sweet dram for when I am not in the mood to be kicked in the groin by an Islay.
Many people have shared their appreciation for the 12, so many, I feel I need to give it another try. This cask strength as started wonderfully, rich and full of flavour. Thanks for the good wishes!
I don't see that one at the LCBO in Toronto. Their 10 Year Old Rum Cask at 46% ABV looks promising too. Stay Strong Brother and we all pray for better days ahead.
I have this bottle from 2018 and think its the same one. I will say I didnt love it early on and it really really mellowed and became a fruity apricot and slightly saline dram. The alcohol burn was substantial initially, almost intrusive, then it really smooths out to a sweet marzipan and almond finger cookie note with light fruits. Sweet long and saline palatial finish. Nice dram and great review!! Very impressed that you just opened it and enjoyed it. Cheers Jon and hope your recharge weekend happens my friend. Cheers 🥃🥃🥃🥃
Well, I was in the mood for something with a lot of backbone, so the alcohol did not get to me. Good to know that the sweet, fruit nature continues and that it only get's better! Thanks for the good wishes too!
Sorry for the tough week, Jon. We had one too as a family. I guess it helps us grow in the end ... I appreciate you muchly and enjoy your videos muchly. Great review. Will definitely keep my eye open for this one. Thanks for the AABC Liquor tip too! ;)
I don't mind the Tom 12-year-old, it's a very good whisky! My favourite is the 14-year-old Port finish, was just sipping that last night as a matter of fact. It's top shelf for me. I haven't had the cask strength, but I imagine it would be a darned nice dram! Thanks for the info on possible shipping opportunities, will be checking into that at some point...🤔 We're moving a friend to New Brunswick, leaving Wednesday morning. Will be 2 weeks away, so I'll be catching up on your vids when we get back. Should have about 6,000 km under our belts by the time we return! Looking forward to it, have all of our various provincial paperworks in order which we now need for the vaccines. Really hoping to see wonderful fall colours, the high tides at the Bay of Fundy, and just some beautiful places and people. My partner hasn't had more than two days away in a row for 3 years, so it's going to be a well deserved break for both of us. May the coming few weeks be so much better for you! I'll check in when we get back. Respect... Marian 🇨🇦🥃
Your trip sounds wonderful, should be the perfect time to drive East. I have heard great things about the 14 year port finish, and one day I hope to try it. Enjoy your time, and it will be good to catch up when you are back. Take care.
@@WhiskyNeighbour You can be sure I will be checking the liquor stores out there as well! Might be able to find something I can't get in Ontario. Worth a shot! 🙏
Jon, I just found a Tomatin 15 on sale for 30% off. I picked it up and opened it along to this review. Will need to spend some time unlocking this one I think. Hopefully you have a better week this week
Friday Revival! I'm gonna have to steal that phrase and use it every once in a while, Jon! Hope your next week is better. I believe I've had the Tomatin 12 back in my Scotch days and, you're right, it was not a bottle I ever replaced when I finished it. The Cask Strength certainly sounds more appealing. Hopefully it's in Texas.
Just opened a bottle and was pleasantly surprised. So far from all cask strength sherry-bombs I've tried this is the best one. Even tho I'm more of a PX fan rather than Oloroso, I really enjoy it.
Nice one Jon. I'm not long into this bottle myself but, so far, I'm liking the balance between the ex-bourbon and sherry. Drinks well for a cask strength. Cheers.
Thanks for the review. It's an affordable scotch and does a ridiculous number of finishes. Hope you find some peace this weekend and put last week behind you. I just tried a Chinese single malt I got at Costco. Really interesting
@@WhiskyNeighbour love the honesty in your reviews. If you like that one, I might go and give it a shot. Have a great weekend, Jon! There was a beam of light illuminating your review towards the end 😉
Ontario just sees a listing of Tomatin 2003 vintage cask strength (~60%, maybe 15-17 yo ??) for 150$ - i think it will a s-i-n-g-l-e cask of sort - - hope to get some stocks before Xmas ...
Wondering if you've tried the tomatin 18, 46%, NCF, NAC. Superstore carrying for a steep discount (sub 100) vs other retailers well over than mark. Seems a good value for an 18 at face value. Worth a shot in your opinion?
I have a bottle, but I have not opened it yet. I think that price is amazing and getting harder and harder to find. Can't comment on what's inside though. Hopefully soon!
I tried Tomatin 12 a while back and I hated it. This bad experience kept me away from any Tomatin ever since.. And yes, after a shitty week, the best thing to do is to crack open a new bottle !
Andre! I saw you posted, but maybe pulled a comment? I had hoped to talk about it. With this, I don't know if Tomatin 12 has batch variation, but I actually gave away a 3/4 full bottle of it. I couldn't drink it! However, this cask strength is much better for me. Pronounced alcohol, but great flavours too. Thanks for dropping in, take care!
@@WhiskyNeighbour and I hope next week will be better for you !! Cheers from Holland. Yes, I pulled back the comment, for I thought it might be not relevant after all... . I love your channel.
@@Andre-nt4dn Thanks for the encouragement! I just dropped another video that I think answers the call a little better. Still value or average drams, but all, just a little better. Cheers!
@@WhiskyNeighbour I will look at it for sure. That was my point. Dont try too cheap stuff, it can put people off. Goodnight Jon (yes, its is midnight here 😉 )
Got the news of a third friend committing suicide since the pandemic began. Then found out my friend Bill is cancer free after a long battle. Life's full of ups and downs. I watch whiskey videos as an additional source of emotional support to be honest. It would be cool to have a dram with you some day if we ever meet.

Hope the weekend brightens for ya, didn't have the best week myself. But onward & upward I always say. Cheers!

Tomatin and Tobermory are two of my favorites.
Awesome! I have struggled a bit with Tomatin, but this bottle is excellent!

Completely agree on smelling and tasting whisky outside. I fnd it reduces everything by 80-90%.
I enjoy relaxing out side, but if I am trying to understand a dram, I need to be inside.
In the restroom

Very interesting, do they age in ex-bourbon or virgin oak from China?
@@WhiskyNeighbour it is ex bourbon. 5 years so the youth is pronounced but not offensive
