Thank you so much. Great video and valuable information. My question is when you fill out the FAFSA form, for the part for your assets in checking and savings if you have some money sitting there that you borrowed from a bank like a loan should that be excluded from the total amount to be reported? Thanks
It should not be excluded. It is part of your asset category. It might be best to wait and submit the FAFSA until after that money is spent, if possible. The balance should be as of the date of FAFSA submission.

My parent have high income so I got less money on my first time submitting the form what can I do to maximize my aid

I'm in! Is the CSS profile the same as FAFSA? We have a college on our list that requires it.
Very similar but there are small differences. The CSS profile is a bit more intrusive. We will have to make a video on that one too soon!

We own one home that we rent out, and our primary residence we do not own, and we pay rent
(California real estate). How would this be treated on the FAFSA, and is there any way to treat the one home we own as our primary residence or to not count it as an asset on the FAFSA? Thanks!
Your rental home would be considered an investment property. Unfortunately, FAFSA doesn't take into account living expenses. You may wish to request a special consideration and explain your living arrangements to your student's financial aid office. Depending on the school, they may take your situation into account. But that cannot be done via FAFSA. The school would need to be contacted directly.
Can I use pell grants to pay rent? I’m old and back in college and can’t work and do schooling but I pay $1000 a month in rent
I believe so because it falls under room and board.
If it gets you to an overage check, it should come back to you and you can use it as you see fit!
is their scholarship for fit nyc international fashion design students ?
Scholarships specific to a college could be found in the college's website. We would suggest you review FIT's website to find if there are departmental scholarships. Good luck!

Hi there
I am an Indian student applying to UT Austin this year. I need financial aid. So am I eligible for Fafsa or not?
If not can you help me out where I can find more financial aid?
Hi Gautam, FAFSA is only for US citizens! You can try searching for local scholarships in Texas and see if any of it applies for international students. Here is a link to our Attending College in Texas article in our blog: thescholarshipsystem.com/blog-for-students-families/attending-college-in-texas-what-you-need-to-know-including-texas-scholarships/
Hi I am an international student who just got accepted to a state uni in new york, its a fashion school but there were no scholarships for international students can you please help me with it?
Hi Amrita, there are scholarships available for international students but they are just less common.
@@TheScholarshipSystem oh okay where can I find them ?
What if my son lives in the house with parents, but he is the one who is paying for college by working, doesn't that count for him to receive pell grant?
Sadly they still count as a dependent as far as FAFSA goes - until they're 24 years old, join the military, are married or emancipated. I know it's not fair when a child supports themselves but that's unfortunately how they do it! :(

Should we submit a new FAFSA now that our daughter is independent on our taxes? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
You have to submit a FAFSA for every academic year your student is attending college. If you've already submitted one and are looking to change the information on it - I suggest contacting the financial aid office at the school before making any big changes. That being said, even though a child is considered independent due to your tax filing, that doesn't mean that they are considered independent based on FAFSA.
We recommend checking out this PDF - studentaid.gov/sites/default/files/fafsa-dependency.pdf
@@TheScholarshipSystem Thank you so much. I did see that yesterday. I’m actually relieved to know I don’t need to do a new one! Lol. Your videos are so helpful and greatly appreciated!
Thank you for the info. Already collecting necessary documents. Have to be honest, I'm nervous about doing the FAFSA. I've heard so many horror stories.
Just one step at a time! It’s pretty easy if the data retrieval tool pulls your taxes!
Hello،
I have the citizenship US live outside the United States I live currently in Syria and studied high school in Syria do I am a qualified for the financial assistance to complete the study in the United States.

HI! I need help filling my income, I am divorced from my daughter's father. I re married but now separated since march and moved out with my kids. What should I report?
Hi, Denisse! Here is a link to an article from our blog that you may find helpful: thescholarshipsystem.com/blog-for-students-families/fafsa-divorced-parents-what-you-need-to-know/

Hi Ayaan, FAFSA is for US citizens only!
Hardest wuestion on fafsa is always regarding my daughter’s “parents” and my marital status. Are they referring to me and her father (my ex-husband) or me and my current husband? Are they referring to my current status? So confusing bc one of the question specifically mentions her birth certificate😵💫🤦♀️
Per the FAFSA website: If you have a stepparent who is married to the legal parent whose information you’re reporting, you must provide information about that stepparent, not the other biological parent. However, : The FAFSA form asks about your parents’ education level. For these two questions, your parents are considered to be your birth -your stepparent is not your parent in those questions.
My daughter is a Junior in college and my son just finished his first semester as a Freshman in college. We thought we would have enough saved to pay for all of their college but we will need to borrow some money. We never filled out FAFSA. My question is is it worth it to fill it out now?
Yes! FAFSA is an annual application. The current application is for the following academic year 2023-2024. Even if you don't qualify for need based aid, it may qualify you for federal student loans, which have lower interest rates and better benefits than private student loans.

What about for international graduate students? I need a scholarship opportunity can you please help me?
Hello! I am sorry - we focus on US citizens since many scholarships require citizenship.
@@TheScholarshipSystem would you please help me with any information for international students?
Hi, can a non us citizen not in us and not studying in us apply for fafsa
No. FAFSA is only for US residents or citizens studying at a US university or college.
Is it also applicable for international students?
FAFSA is only for US residents or citizens.
North Carolina requires seniors to do FAFSA.
It's not a state requirement that all NC seniors complete the FAFSA - but we recommend that all students do fill it out if they are going to college, regardless of if they expect to receive aid or not!
Is fafsa for international students ?
No. FAFSA is for US residents or citizens.

Can you use FAFSA for international schools?
There are some FAFSA-approved international schools (though most seem to offer only Federal student loans).
If all you get is a loan from FAFSA, do you have to take it? How do you decline it?
When schools offer a financial aid package, families can either accept or deny individual offers. In the school's portal, students will indicate which financial aid items they will be accepting or rejecting. At that point, you can decline any loans being offered.
Thank you!
Please I'm Ghanaian, please am I qualified?
Only US Citizens or US residents qualify for FAFSA.
Where is this FAFSA money. My daughter only qualified for 1000.00.
That's more than our daughter got. We filled out FAFSA. Middle income family. All loans. $0 aid.
I'm a single parent of 3...no aid and only a loan. I dont understand this...
I’ve heard first come first serve is completely false.
Not at all. Some schools are awarded limited funding (usually this is in terms of additional state grants, not always Federal grants) based on their enrollment the previous year. Once those funds are awarded, they may not have any additional funding come available.
