Thanks again for playing my demo and for your feedback! So glad you presented this opportunity for us starter devs to get your input. And I’m honored to win the Thomas Brush indie game award! 🎉
Saw your video recently about the struggles of getting wishlists and attention on the game. Really happy to see Thomas checking it out and giving you a lot of great feedback and more publicity. I've been gearing up to get into gamedev for awhile; followed a bunch of tutorials, built a U.I based application in Unity to get a feeling for coding and problem solving. When I saw your DevLog Part 8 video it put the fear of failure back in me, but seeing you push through that fear yourself and also getting the attention of experienced indie devs in the wider community, it has given me hope that with enough will power, it is possible to see a project through. Keep at it, we're all routing for you!
Hey Thomas thanks a lot for playing my game *Mannequin* ! I'm the developer! When I send you it was still missing a lot of stuff and I prepared that demo just for you. About the shader I'm just using the standard shader (built-in) with post processing and AO (Beautify + HBAO). Other than that the textures are baked into texture arrays to improve performance. The game has a game loop now with Voice Acting, more mannequin action, a surprising area etc... If anyone liked the concept the game is on a more stable state now!
@@kerhabplays Yeah it wasnt... It was a partial build, he even ended up playing until he reached a bug basically in the fitting room, that should be the end of the game but for that demo he would end after entering the deposit, well, there are lots of videos in the game's comments page if you guys want to see how it is!
Hi Thomas Brush, thanks for choosing & playing my game (the last one 13:56 ). Love the feedbacks and I was surprised you found so many bugs that I missed. For the waking up animation, I just pause the player control and use cinemachine's virtual camera to blend between 3 cameras by changing its priority.
Wow Thomas, I really appreciate you playing my game Daddy and giving all the feedback! I made that game especially for you and watching you play it literally made my day ❤ congrats to Milo amd its developer for winning! Your game looks great and so did all the others!
This feels like it could be a great series that you repeat every so often. Just make it clear when you're going to do it and give some rules for submissions to weed out getting spammed with things that you don't necessarily want to trawl through. I'd bet that people wont even want a reward, just seeing their game be critiqued would be enough.
One thing I just realized watching this: you're giving excellent feedback. It's clear and you give context to why you're thinking a specific way. I will for sure submit Lorne demo once it is ready in the hopes you do more of these!
hey thomas! game design graduate here doin the indie thing, just wanted to say thanks for giving the little guys visibility with your channel, its really cool and the whole reason we do it. to share with others!
Man! That kind of videos are a great idea for a series, a significant amount of your audience are people who are looking up to you an would love to see you critique their games! I would be really happy to see more video of this format, even without the money prize, I think what is more valuable here are your comments and the large amount of people that will see the games ! Take care !
This feedback not only helps these specific game’s developers but also for others so they don’t make the same mistakes. Enjoyable to watch as a game designer.
I watched the first developer's video a few days ago saying the game didn't sell well, so it's good to see he made some money here... I guess this shows if he can improve the game it can work well for him...
I may be wrong, as I've only played with 3rd person, but you should be able to easily switch cinemachine cameras, both using trigger areas and timeline etc. This should work for switching from cinematic to the character controller.
I've seen the Milo game, I thought it was really beautiful! Really agree with Thomas to go a little to the Hollow Knight like route with attack animations. And frankly I struggle with this too with my game.
Hi thomas!! Im saying this for a friend using my account but THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL OF THESE INSIGHTS!!! It made my game in progess much more fufilled with many things added
God I can't wait until I understand stuff enough to just make a working prototype... I'd love for people to be able to play something I made, but man this is hard!
14:12 isnt this why we have cinemachine? i would put 2-3 virtual cameras and enable them chronologically so it looks like the player is waking up and at the end enable the player movements i think it can be done with an animation, disable player movement so it doesnt interfere with gravity (so the animation can play out), play the animation once, enable movement
with the first one, pressing B to interact with things tells me the dev plays on their switch primarily. Weird when it's B but totally normal if it's A on a switch
What I would do for making the camera move into the player's position is to have the player GameObject active but you aren't able to move the player. Then, make a second camera for the animation. Make the animation end at the position of the player's fps camera. Once the animation ends, delete the animation camera and make the player able to move. That's what I would do anyways. Idk how others would do it. Also, where would I be able to submit games of mine for your review?
i loved the third one it was really cool, and even the shaders were very eye catching. not a big fan of the story or theme, but it looked pretty cool to me. i would love to see the finished game.
Are you going to do one of these any time in the future? Because i dint know that you were doing this and i would love it if you played my game. I am on your email list so i dont know if you emailed it or if i just dint get it ty
Mmm do you test (on video or offline) regularly? I have one but i never had an experienced developer give it a try... Where could i upload it for you? Ahhh i saw the itch io urls okok

Congratulation Man ,great Job
Dude that game looks awesome. I just feel u need to do some work on game juice but otherwise looks great

Nice job! Looks like a really interesting game to play
The mannequins were very cool and creepy!
I had a blast!
I would give the win to you but it was not full as you mentionef

That's the thing about bugs! They never show up for the developer haha. Love the mood and vibe of the game!

Great video! The winner was my favourite, but the Mannequin Game also looked like it has a lot of potential
This is awesome! I like to hear Thomas’ expert input on the community’s creations.
This feedback not only helps these specific game’s developers but also for others so they don’t make the same mistakes. Enjoyable to watch as a game designer.
My game “Popcorn Rocket” wasn’t played but it was nice to see it listed at the start of the video!
11:10 I loved when he said with a robotic voice “that’s not fair”
I watched the first developer's video a few days ago saying the game didn't sell well, so it's good to see he made some money here... I guess this shows if he can improve the game it can work well for him...
I love how he tries so hard to be kind and avoid rude comments even though for a couple of these titles it's actually very challenging
Unity Cinemachine is very useful for camera transitions. It also supports lots of other cool features you can do with cameras :)
Fr i can't believe thomas has been using unity for 10 years without knowing about cinemachine
You should do this kind of videos often
I may be wrong, as I've only played with 3rd person, but you should be able to easily switch cinemachine cameras, both using trigger areas and timeline etc. This should work for switching from cinematic to the character controller.

Oh god... Now I'm even more motivated to launch the demo of my upcoming metroidvania this year
These are great!!!
Please make more of these videos!!
you know what's funny, I've had an Idea before, that was kinda like what you were saying the 3rd game should be, but alot different lol
The second game needs some good fog
You should do this again in a month or two when I'm finished my game :)
I love this idea as a series - hopefully we see more these reviews
bleeh, bleehhh, bleeeeehhhhh!!! ı dont know why but it fits so well with the dying scenes 😂😂😂
Hey Thomas. Very good video, maybe you should make this a full series (also with not subscriber games).
Love all the winners!! 👏 👏 👏 Released our first free to play arcade game in Feb 23 on Itch. Thought it is too chaotic to submit to Thomas to stream 🤔
with the first one, pressing B to interact with things tells me the dev plays on their switch primarily. Weird when it's B but totally normal if it's A on a switch
