The life expectancy drop that has occurred (especially for white working class individuals) has been attributed to “deaths of despair”. Basically ODs, alcoholism, and gun deaths/suicides. People trying to numb their pain and at the same time need painkillers to be functional to work the hard hours when your body is trying to quit on you. The more we can realize that we are all in this together, the better we can make the world together. Funny enough, many artists in punk, indie rock, alternative rock, rap, hip hop, folk, and country are all speaking the same message. I was with him until the welfare part. I still think it’s a beautiful song and I agree with a lot of it, but I feel it’s unproductive for us to point the finger at each other. That’s exactly what the billionaire class wants us to do. Anything to divide us and prevent us from realizing and utilizing our collective power. Overall, I think he clearly put his whole heart into this and you can feel his sorrow. Beautiful and heartbreaking.

beautiful story, I wasn't aware that he had a problem tipping the bottle back. he got serious with God and God not only saw him through the alcoholism but gave him people to sing his songs to, it is absolutely amazing what God can do. it proves He is as alive and as powerful today as He was on the first day of creation. what he gave to Mr. Anthony He offers to everyone through Jesus Christ. this is beautiful.
That was a beautiful song. Oliver gave everything he had in that performance just awesome.
I’ve heard this song probably 40 to 50 times in the last 24 hours and it still gives me chills brings tears to my eyes. This is definitely our new national anthem!
Same!
I was hoping you'd cover this, Knox! Congrats, on a Million subs!!!!! This song speaks to the soul! It's a song that did more for this country in a matter of a few minutes than the corrupt govt have done for the American people in DECADES! God bless oliver for sharing this with all of us. This is the sentiment we all feel and it was so beautifully done. I've been nonstop listening to this and it cuts deeper and deeper each time. You know you're doing something right when you get over 10 million views in 5 days when no one knew your name before! WE HEAR YOU OLIVER ANTHONY, WE KNOW WHO ARE NOW!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
"Young Men are putting themselves 6 feet in the ground bcuz all this damn country does is keep kicking them down. That line is soul splicing. My brother was one of them men. Miss him every day.
Oh I’m so sorry for your loss. What is being done to men in our country is a damn shame.
@ourcozycorner8517 thank you. That really means a lot. He left behind 2 beautiful children and a family that grieves his loss every day. It'll be 9 years April 21st. He had the same job for 14 years and lost it for a ridiculous reason and he didn't make it 6 month's. I'm unfortunately the one who found him, and this song just resonates with me on such a deep and personal level.
@@Ginaarceci that is so tragic. If I could hug you I would. I’m adding you & your family to my prayer list. 💜 press on.

This Song Brought Tears to my Eye's. Been listening to this all Day.
Thank You Oliver Anthony. ❤
This brings chills and touches the soul… it’s like the spirit of America weeping.
I love this song! Im hoping that when those record labels come calling he turns them down. Don't want him to change and sell his old soul.
Everybody has warned him about who not to entertain with his fame.
He turned down 8 million dollars. 👍
There is no record label or industry leader who has this much power to make a song that reaches literally across the world. This is pure gold and it is organic. It isn't right or left it is an anthem for the ages. The media doesn't know what to make of him bc the media didn't create him. Some No Right nO lEFT nO mIDDLE PEPS IN NC DI told some truth to all haha
Thank you Knox Hill, you are truly amazing of what you do. U-value music and his purity you break it down to a point to where it's simplistic, yet the context is complex. This was an amazing song. Many more needed to hear and many more will thanks to you
Always appreciate your perspective on things Knox, this is a beautiful song that relates to people globally, I’ve seen people from UK and Australia and even Jamaica I think resonating with this song. I’ve been watching reactions nonstop for the past two days to this guys song and I tear up a little bit every time I hear it. Hope everybody’s staying safe and well in this ole world
Totally agree. As he says at the beginning of the song, it's a world problem, many countries around the world are struggling. Here in the UK, interest rates are rising, inflation is rising, mortgage rates are going up, rent rises, unemployment rising. Like he says working class people are struggling to pay the bills, while the rich politicians and their rich businessman friends aren't. We need more Olivers to get the message out there and we all need to come together to stand up to the "establishment". Peace and love to all the every day working families, regardless of colour, race or religion ✌️🙏♥️
@@maximus6622 absolutely man, the part that always gets me is ‘young men putting themselves six feet underground cause all this damn country does is keep kicking them down’, paraphrasing because I might’ve missed a word or two, but from what I’ve heard and seen since I first hear this song is that almost everyone feels the same everywhere. This is a cruel world man, and it shouldn’t be that way.
@@Zer0t0lerance93 Too right my friend. Oliver is speaking up for the common man that millions of people around the world can relate to. He deserves to become a super star.

I am so glad that artist's like him, Ren, Tom McDonald and you, understand how the average person feels right now. The country is a hamster wheel that most of us can't get off of.

This song hits home and hard. As a blue collar worker I totally relate to this song. I am fed up with the feds stealing my hard earned money for wars I don't believe in and all the other b.s. they waste money on. God this is a good song. It's very well written and performed. This man is singing from the depths of his soul. I appreicatie this song VERY MUCH.
A good singer can sing with emotion...this isn't that...this is raw emotion singing...nothing fake or polished, just raw emotion...
I listened to it just this morning! It's a great song... I'm a southern gal whose dad played the guitar, so these always feel like home. But these poignant words are well delivered and hard-hitting for these times. Great breakdown✌️🖤 Luv ya Professor
Every lyric is powerful, speaks directly to the state of the country in this moment
Can’t take off or you lose your job and everything with that.
I’ve got 3 years clean, but lost my brother, best friend , cousin, uncle, ex, and countless other friends and acquaintances. Sometimes this world is so overwhelming and you feel your on a hamster wheel trying to keep basic things like a roof over your head possible.
God Bless you, so many looses, hard to bare. God must have his hand on you in a way that's getting you through each day.
God Bless you!!
I work 6 days a week and I am homeless. Literally watching this video in my tent illegally camping on state land because I can't afford rent. Needless to say this song hits hard for me
I ♥️ this Song and the Soul in it.
I like how he doesn't let his message get bogged down in what can get used to divide us like the culture war, or partisan politics.
I think we are finally in beginning stages of a turn for the good people in this country. We are fed up!
They don't care. They never have.
Knox I just found your channel this weekend and I have spent an embarrassing amount of time watching your reactions. You are so talented. The only thing I want to tell you is the line is “I wish they cared about Miners, not just minors on an island somewhere” so another play on words like Rich men North of Richmond. He just quit drinking I read in an article and he had fallen on his knees and prayed for God to help him and now he’s been blessed with us all feeling this song in our hearts. Oliver’s song and his voice is incredible and speaks for not just working class men but us women too who were promised that if we worked hard we could each have our own American dream but it’s just not as true as it was decades ago. Keep up the amazing work! I’m not a big rap fan but I’m a big Tom McDonald fan and your breakdowns are beyond impressive! I have been keeping your wife in my prayers as well as your twin girls! I pray she’s doing much better today ❤🙏🏻They are so lucky to have such a wonderful dad and husband who so clearly loves his girls ❤bless you all.
When I found h I s videos I did the same. I lobe his reactions and analysis
Thank you so much for sharing. Ive been basically binge watching reaction videos on this piece and im amazed and excited to see folks from every walk of life and even other countries being touched by RNOR. This song is a testimony that we are much more united than MSM and politicians want us to believe.
He wrote The People's Anthem that will go down in history.
When it feels like all hope is lost, Christopher Oliver Anthony shows up at the perfect moment, restoring my faith in humanity while bringing ALL people together 🫂
I'm so proud of him and I hope he never has to work a nine-to-five from here on out 🙏🏼
He's speaking for all of us, he's the voice for ALL HUMANITY and I'm so grateful because nowadays people are afraid to speak up about anything out of fear of being arrested or worse just for speaking your truth and saying how they feel 🥺
Thank you Chris,
For literally giving me hope again.
It's so refreshing knowing there are other people out there just like me, thanks to this song.
🥺I'm so overwhelmed because I almost lost hope in humanity, I have been wondering what happened to all of the kind, compassionate and loving people.
Thanks to this song, I found my people! ☺️ now I don't feel so alone & invisible. We have to come together 🙏🏼🫂🙏🏼 as One United Family to fight this evil that continues to divide us so they can control us more easily. 💯

Everyone on the planet can relate to this song. When you see a person living out of a shopping cart...know that they weren't always like this. They just need some help, but everyone has turned their backs on them. Humanity has failed them.
i like that they recorded this outside. even the birds stopped singing to listen to him.
This man came out swingin' and just started hitting harder and harder and harder. Not a single wasted word in this whole song.
This isn't just a song, it's an Anthem. It's what our country needed desperately! What a classical masterpiece.

I hate seeing folks buying LOBSTER WITH THEIR FOODSTAMPS!! And I’m over here buying extra rice to stretch out the meat because we don’t qualify. It’s messed the f up.
@@peachykeen7634 definitely messed up
No he's using the conservative "welfare queen" rhetoric to rag on people who receive welfare and also to complain about paying taxes.
@@peachykeen7634 Why is it your business if someone wants to buy a lobster with food stamps? Are poor people not allowed to eat lobster? Ridiculous.
@@loganjonesTTMS and that’s EXACTLY the argument from out of touch rich people every time and it’s bullcrap. No, food stamps is not supposed to be for luxury items. Lobster is $12/lb. Beef is $5/lb, chicken is $3/lb. If someone can afford lobster on their food stamps, they don’t need it. Period. If I had food stamps, I’d be spending it all on more affordable meats.
Man, I love this. I really appreciate reactors bringing music like this to all different walks of life. The more we can realize that we are all in this together, the better we can make the world together. Funny enough, many artists in punk, indie rock, alternative rock, rap, hip hop, folk, and country are all speaking the same message. If we can look beyond geography, skin color, etc, we can make a difference and finally elect some officials to actually represent us rather than just ticking the boxes of people with the most advertising $$ or whoever a celebrity said to vote for.
Absolutely love the "deer corn" joke with the deerstand in the background 😅👌🏻
Thought it was appropriate lol. I normally record my intros after I do my reactions
Always enjoy your reactions. You catch every detail that go over the heads of many others who react to songs. For me, when he refers to his old soul, it means old time values, God, family, country, merit. Today's world has no time for any of it. We have become more distant from what is truly important and have turned our eyes to a less desirable way of life.
Absolutely, EVERYBODY needs to put God back in their lives, like our brother Oliver Anthony did. And now look at him, breaking the charts and UA-cam channels. 🙏🎶❤️🇺🇸
I am so happy you reacted to this! This song needs to be everywhere
Knox, it’s not like you to miss a double like that! “Look out for miners, not just minors on an island somewhere”😉
Well, if I was breaking down a rap it’s pretty obvious. But I just let it go cause I thought there wouldn’t be doubles with this type of music lol. How wrong I was

Good job….lol….funny🤣🤣
Hits really hard as a small construction company owner in a tiny Montana town
I was with him until the welfare part. I still think it’s a beautiful song and I agree with a lot of it, but I feel it’s unproductive for us to point the finger at each other. That’s exactly what the billionaire class wants us to do. Anything to divide us and prevent us from realizing and utilizing our collective power. I think the pentagon losing around three billion dollars and not being able to account for it is a much bigger problem than people who are living in poverty eating their feelings because they are stuck in this same depressing nightmare with the rest of us. Overall, I think he clearly put his whole heart into this and you can feel his sorrow. Beautiful and heartbreaking.
I think you don't understand it's the politions who push the welfare and are actually keeping people down by making them dependent on the welfare so they can control people. Government is not doing it to help people and that's what people don't understand.
Just a man in the woods with his guitar and dogs. Great song.
Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing.
☕🤔🇺🇸
A good song writer can make you feel what they feel . This song does that on both sides of the isle .
Man I’d love to see you react to Zach Bryan seeing how much you loved this kind of country.
Great suggestion! I think Knox would love his soulful music.
Love his music. Should try Colter Wall too please.
Love you did this shows your range of knowledge of music kudos my good man
This man has touched a nerve. He is going to be loved by common men and hated by the left.
No, loved by the left too. I know, i am one. When did you ever get the idea that we were so unlike you. That breaks my heart. My liberalism is more about civil rights than anything else. Please don't perpetuate the division with assumption. Please
Lefts won’t like this? C’mon now.
Why the hell do we have to be so divided? We’re all on the same sinking ship. It will sink no matter what “side” we subscribe to. We all bleed red.
@redangel169 The left is already losing their mind on this song, primarily the 300 lb. Lyric, calling him racist....the usual leftist attack
@@redangel169 I think he means the left elite. He probably won't be liked much by the right elite either. The ones on the left who control the media are going to do everything they can do to destroy this man.

Just subbed.... want my corn dammit lolol😅
Damn this dude has some real authentic soul to his voice! Loved this song!! Thanks Knox for this reaction!!
When you find your way out of the urban jungles of the country, away from the rampant crime, away from the drag shows, away from the "mostly peaceful protests," this song is what most of the real America sounds like. I don't even listen to country music, but I can feel every note and every word of this song in my chest.
Just a man, who happened to made music that resonated with the general public, now he is a superstar just because he sang from the HEART
I think we're forgetting the REAL victims here: The fudge rounds companies.
😂
That raw sound takes folks songs of the 50s and 60s to a whole new level . Cash ,jennings,Tennessee ernie Ford, patsie smiling down on him
The sad thing is, very few people know what real manual labor is anymore. When I was fifteen I got my social security card and work permit. I'd go straight from school to work at JC Penny unloading a truck full of new stock. If it was time to bring in hay I'd go with a friend to his grandfather's house and spend hours on a wagon holding a strap in one hand and a hook in the other scooping up bales of hay and stacking them on a wagon. I got a paycheck from JC Penny and a home-cooked meal at the farm
It's a good thing that less people have to do backbreaking manual labour.

Was thinking thought but then I was like nah this isn’t rap lol
@@KnoxHill If you notice he did a slant rhyme with heat/eat (Somehow). Also the obvious Rich men in Richmond slant rhyme at the end of the chorus. Also “obese milkin’ welfare.” Dope word association. He’s a writer! 🖊️
Knox no BS, I find your reactions are definitely above the rest. You are about to explain things that all other reactors overlook or don't understand.
Miners/Minors
I'm so glad you did this song. I love your deep thoughts.
I am amused that a rapper thinks that rap invented rhyming.
i work everyday 10 hours a day.. slipped disk lower back arthritis and a pinched nerve in my left hip... 4 kids and a wife.. i cant stop!
In terms of truth-bombs, this song is like a nuclear war.
The more I learn about Oliver Anthony the more I’m loving him!
Come on, dude. you talk about growing up in the hood, but promote this dude talking trash about poor people.
Yep, Knox thought he was being funny but he was dead serious. The guy thinks that people on welfare are wasting his tax dollars that he already doesn't want to pay.
this has made me so homesick for Appalachia... such an authentic dude. I love how he is just singing to his dogs and the trees in the holler. Those impossibly green trees of the Allegheny Mountains...
It was pretty decent until the dude turned his back on solidarity and started shitting on others that have nothing to do with any of the problems.
Short sighted reactionary analysis like Oliver's is why nothing ever changes.
Pretty weak message TBH.
Agreed
His vague popularist rhetoric has blinded a lot of people, including Knox it seems. The song is written in a way that sounds good to everyone if you don't think about what he's actually saying.
A guy i follow on tiktok actually ended up with oliver as a follower after he showed love and support. Kudos to you mr anthony.
The fact that knox hill is reacting to Chris is amazing. Knox hill can read the bars and break them down for the ones that don't know what he actually saying. This man has been through it and sees what happening to this country and is man enough to say it aloud
