- Mike Vernon won the Cup with his hometown Calgary Flames in 1989 and the Detroit Red Wings in 1997 - adding the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP with that second title. He reminisces playing on the outdoor rink as a child to transitioning to playing in the NHL and the memories he made.
Arguably most underrated goalie in Nhl history
One of the most likable guys in hockey, period. Congratulations, Mike!
I'll never forget watching him play with the Red Wings. Thanks Vernie!
You brought the wings their first of four cups in 1997 and won the Conn Symthe Trouphy for being MVP in playoffs. WINGS FANS CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!❤❤❤
Well done Mike. Your parents would be so proud.
He deserves it so much. Not many goalies have won Cups with two different teams. We will always love Mikey here in Detroit. Even if he had never won a Cup here he would be beloved for kicking Roy's ass in the Brawl.
As a Sharks fan, I am so happy we’re part of his Hall of Fame career. His tandem with Kelly Hrudey in 1997-98 was so much fun to watch.
What’s an enjoyable speech to listen to. Congrats Mike
Love you forever Verny, no one deserves it more ❤
Another childhood goalie 👍Greeting from Slovakia 🇸🇰👍
Congrats verny thank you for all you did for the NHL and bringing the cup to Detroit as a red wings fan as a kid watching you play gave many fond memories a true legend
Thanks for the memories, Mike. Whether, or not, the Flames ever win a second Stanley Cup, I will never forget the many times you carried the team on your back to bring that first one home in '89! Now, you're in the HHOF.. and noone more deserving than YOU!!!
Calgary legend! So happy for Vernie
Played in 2 straight Memorial Cups as an add on with Portland Winter Hawks. WON IT FOR PORTLAND in 83. No way that offensive machine wins without Mike Vernon
Glenn Hall .... he is my best friend's uncle, all hailing from Humboldt.
Congratulations Mike Vernon ...
"Mike Vernon with a great left"
Size for size the best goalie ever. He's 5'7"!
The Hockey hall of fame is fickle with goalies. Mike was great those years in Calgary and that 1997 run in Detroit. But guys like Osgoode and the Bulin wall are still waiting. Osgood has over 400 wins his GAA is under 3. He has 50 shutouts. I know he was on a stacked wings team, but the same can be said for Dryden and fuhr.He will one day most likely get in, hopefully, but he should have been in this class. King Henrik as a first ballot is iffy. The man is a Stat machine don't get me wrong. Only one finals experience, though, in a losing effort.
Does anyone know who that is at the beginning taking a photo with Vernon with the plaque?
