Sie sind Multi-Platin-Gewinner, haben einen Stern am Hollywood Walk of Fame und sind wahre Giganten des HipHop. In den Neunzigern wurden sie quasi nebenbei auch zu Vorreitern des Crossover: Cypress Hill aus Kalifornien.
DJ Muggs, Sen Dog und B-Real traten bereits als Teenager in ihrem Heimatort South Gate auf. 1991 sorgten sie schon mit ihrem gleichnamigen Debüt für Aufsehen, den internationalen Durchbruch schafften sie dann 1993 mit "Black Sunday", worauf sich auch ihr Monster-Hit "Insane In The Brain" befand.
Die typischen, smoothen Bass- und Drumloops von DJ Muggs sowie die Raps von Sen Dog und der nasale Gesang von B-Real hatten großen Einfluss auf andere Musikgenies von Dr. Dre bis hin zu britischen TripHop-Künstlern. 2017 feierten Cypress Hill ihr 25-jähriges Bandjubiläum mit einer großen Tournee, und 2018 kam ihr sechstes Studioalbum "Elephants On Acid" heraus.
