Back in college abroad, one of my roommates was from NYC. He was one of the best-mannered people I've ever had the pleasure to meet. Courteous, chivalrous, spoke in a very refined way and had excellent taste in many things. However, he did complain a lot that people on the streets lacked "attitude". I asked him what he meant by that and he said he was actually missing people walking fast and looking like they were gonna bite if you talked to them. The first thing he wrote on Facebook after flying back to NYC was "it feels so good to walk around and see people with a genuine ATTITUDE". For the life of me, I could never understand why someone would be missing something of the sort, but then again I am not a New Yorker ^_^
I’m Filipino, and I’m comparing the attitude of Native Manila people to New Englanders and they’re almost the same. Grumpy and impatient most of the times, but also very honest. Going down South to the Visayan islands, their attitudes are also similar to the Southern US. Hospitable and overly friendly. That’s why Visayans always find Manileños to be aloof and cold compared to them. I guess the Philippines has a lot of similarities with the US.
I see a lot of people here saying that they get suspicious when someone is nice to them because they think they want something. That is very telling about your character. I think that's projection. Just because YOU are only nice to strangers when you want something, doesn't mean everyone else is too
You tell em! Jasmine people are really ignorant now n Days so I guess people want a random stranger coming up to them talking shit then they will be happy compare to a kind stranger that came up to them being friendly they consider strange or suspicious people who think like this is either two things they either hiding something or a criminal

Yeah, I was trying to leave a bank one day. The guy at the exit dropped his newspaper and politely apologized and I said something like "no problem".What I didn't know is that his friend behind me was picking my pockets and he was just keeping me distracted. Yeah, you learn attitude in NY just like you know how to wear your shoulder bag, hide your jewelry and keep the NY pace when you're walking. People who talk on their phones on the streets of NY are just plain stupid. However, a lot of people have stopped me and asked for directions and, under certain circumstances, I've even walked them to where they wanted to go...I've bought a few homeless guys a meal. One guy tried to kiss me...I itched for 3 days...see, that's attitude and sometimes that's important. Still,I can be nice, helpful and willing to be kind if you don't look or act like a serial killer and the sun is shining. There ya go! And yeah,if you came on like I was your best friend, I'd make a lame excuse why I'm not gonna help you...that's too much

Ive worked with a few new yorkers in LA. They were all obnoxious and egotistical, but strangely after cussing you out (in attitude, not literally), they acted like nothing happened ..small sample but that has been my experience with transplanted coworkers from NYC.
New York doesn't have Southern charm. That is for sure. It is not the rudest city I have ever experienced. Chicago is worse. Rochester, upstate NY could be ruder.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I am from Louisiana and one year, I got a wild hair and moved to south Florida near Miami. I couldn't believe after all the years living around people who easily showed beautiful southern charm and kindness, I immediately witnessed so many people being rude. I felt like I was in another country. Needless to say, I live back home in Louisiana in my rather large two-bedroom apartment, and I own four properties. Ha!
It’s also a perfectly normal response to not respond when a random stranger you don’t know asks you how you are. I know it was a social experiment of sorts but that’s absolutely not an example of rudeness in anyway. If someone is asking a personal question, you have the right to keep walking and not respond. If anything, it’s rude as fuck for a stranger to randomly come up to some one and start ask a random question. Like I said I’m sick of the openness of the Midwest. Looks like New York is my place because apparently people mind their business.
Right. We're just real. If you get really open with us off the bat and start telling your life story, we're gonna push you away. Idk you and you don't know me. For all we know I could be a criminal or vice versa. It's nothing personal we just know how to set boundaries.

We from Florida share most of the world's opinion of new yorkers, new yorkers are rude, loud and think it's ok to make spectacles of themselves publicly. I'm being objective having grown up in NY my early years.aa well as been in almost every other state. People dont envy new yorkers like they once did. Now more than ever after the pandemic has wrecked New York, we hope you hate Florida we dont want you here importing your bad manners
I disagree. Those "Floridians" are most likely not originally from here and unfortunately, there are lot of "Floridians" that are actually transplants from the northeast of the US. The Real Florida people (I'm talking generational) are southern, country folk; they are very down to earth and patient.

@@BeingVeganllc Are you claiming that unexpectedly jumping in a person's face and raising your hand to point a finger inches away from someone's face acceptable behavior?
They can see he has a cameraman recording him so then know at least why he’s doing it. It’s a lil odd but it’s as easy as “excuse me” and continuing about your day like most of the people in the video did. So thanks for proving my point I’ve had New Yorkers tell me that so much as saying “Good morning” can get them mad enough to start a fight so I’m convinced New Yorkers are just inherently mean “because we have to be” “This city move too fast to be nice man”
New Yorkers aren't very nice, but we're kind. You have a flat tire? Well help you change it, but we'll curse you out while doing so. To quote cousin Johnny T, "We like tourists. But between the hours of 4 and 6pm, go fast or get outta the way."
It is a little more complicated. Not all the people shown in this video are rude and not all of them are even New Yorkers. New York may have a higher proportion of rude people as compared to the rest of North America but that does not mean all people who live in the city are necessarily rude.
I live in NYC. and honestly on the contrary to my home island Crete Greece, where hospitality and kindness is the keyword, I have faced many rude and brash people in this city. The only way how I face them is being straightforward (sometime blunt depending on the situation), assertive, and never hide my feelings so they would know where I come from. Also, if people like me the way how I express myself, then they are welcome to my social circle. In Crete Greece, I am more open, easy to adapt the environment social there despite my childhood and teenage errors, and people support each other as a community.
I live in Colorado, and people in the Rocky Mountain are the best people! We’re friendly, nice, and never impolite. With Colorado being so popular with people from the East Coast, our people have changed. I’m sorry, but I don’t care for people from the East Coast. Rudeness is so ingrained in the East Coast manner, it sucks. I’d never go to New York or any of the other states near New York. Having worked in a call center that deals with customers from all over America, it’s rare to encounter a nice East Coast person!
Rude people make NYC look bad. There's no point in people being rude and doing what the devil tells rude people to do. They need to pray more and ask God to give them strength and blessings to get through the stress they go through everyday.
Yesterday, I was at a packed train going home and I just tried to pass by to where there is more space to sit, so there was that guy on that way and I said "excuse me" so that I can pass by. He asked me, "what did you say?" I told him that "I said excuse me". He told me, "keep it moving then before I f you up". I said "and you are not to tell me what to do, no need to be rude". So he started to curse me out and threaten to throw a glass bottle at me. So I quietly said "stupid" as I left the train and he was like "what did you say?" I was quiet and then he chased me down the platform. I was running away from him yelling "police, help" and that's when he left me alone. He probably didn't want to go to jail as it probably wasn't his first rodeo. To the wonderful New Yorkers, no one stopped to help me. I bet he'd start punching me and no one gives an f. I am so tired of this craphole. New York sucks.
When a typical New Yorker says "Excuse Me", they Really Mean "Get Outta MY WAY !!". And I can Always sense it profoundly. To me, saying "Excuse Me" is basically Crude and Rude. Rude New Yorker: Old white guy that easily got pissed off just because your tote bag brushed on his should. "Jeez fuck, what the hell are you doing?!" Literally my experience at Queens Center Place. First time after living here for 2 years.
What can be so good about living in New York that you have to stuff all of your heavy weight clothes into a mini closet big enough to fit maybe two jackets? It just doesn't make sense to me. No job is worth paying $4000 for a 10 x 10 apartment. And so many people do it. Not this Louisianian. It is way too cold, and those places are way too small for the price. They could pay that much anywhere else and have a mansion of space to live. Screw that! No wonder they are mad. lol Mad and sad. Bless.
People are not nice because that's what they chose to be. Bitter. Not everyone in New York has a negative behavior. Some people are very nice depending on where you go around the city.
Our next-door neighbor in Los Angeles who owned the apartment building next to our house was a native New Yorker and she described life there in this way: "Lead, follow, or get out of the way." That sounds about right.
I disagree. I've been to NYC twice and found New Yorkers to be quite friendly on both occasions Now, as a Californian, I can attest to Los Angeles people being awful. Two years ago, I twisted my ankle there and three places in LA literally refused to let me sit down and rest it up. Extremely haughty and superficial in LA (not just Hollywood. The entire city)

yeah. people try to talk to us all the time. THey're like HERES A PAMPHLET, SPARE SOME CHANGE, HEY A FREE RIDE. (obciously we dont always ignore them) but we got places to be people. as a canadian i expected them to be really rude but a culture shock was they were actually pretty helpful we were lost and we didnt even ask for directions and people just came up to help us out.
New Yorkers are nicer than I expected. They get a bad rep
I will say this, not all New Yorkers are rude but they do have the worst of the worst.
Because if I don't see someone walking with a scowl then I KNOW that bitch is up to something.
@Pel Gram why?
I see a lot of people here saying that they get suspicious when someone is nice to them because they think they want something. That is very telling about your character. I think that's projection. Just because YOU are only nice to strangers when you want something, doesn't mean everyone else is too
Hello!! 💯💯 I’m from the south and they think because we polite and sweet we are fake and that’s not true at all
You tell em! Jasmine people are really ignorant now n Days so I guess people want a random stranger coming up to them talking shit then they will be happy compare to a kind stranger that came up to them being friendly they consider strange or suspicious people who think like this is either two things they either hiding something or a criminal
No, you might be a psychopath that’s why
I went to New York this week and I only got yelled at once!! Everyone else was nice.
😂😂😂😂
New yorkers are not rude I don't know why people say that I miss it so much ....
Because it’s true. New Yorkers are all scumbags

I wasn’t familiar with the train station , I asked a New Yorker which train to get to where I needed to go. It took me back to penn station
As a New Yorker if someone is friendly to me they getting mean faced cuz why is u stopping me bro? What u want? I got places to be
We are not rude. We get to the point. Deal with it. We get things done.
exactly
yep
Take this as you will, but i've lived all my life in NYC and we aren't rude we're just busy and lot's of stuff is going on so we don't have time to stop and smile or say hi. I always have something to do like pick up my siblings from school, doctor appointment, gotta get my nails done, get to school myself, work, etc. I mean many of this stuff is no longer cause of Covid 19 but you get my point.
That’s pretty much every city in the US, NYC is a different type madness though.
Well they are rude if you compare everyone in the world how they act compared to people in New York not that there rude to be rude it’s understandable but u know nyc rude
Yes their are
too straight forward
If you're nice to us in nyc... we'll think you're a weirdo and get nervous
And yeah,if you came on like I was your best friend, I'd make a lame excuse why I'm not gonna help you...that's too much
@@janisdeluca3028 um... people giving you wrong directions is a big one. LOL because honestly sometimes we don't know what the hell you're talking about "They said I have to head northeast" WHat?? After this we don't give a fuck and say "Turn left then go up. We know Left, Right and Up down, and how many blocks. Also as for your wallet if your wallet is not Fat enough to cram down in your back pocket them don't have one. If its a fat wallet no one can pick i t without you feeling it. Also people can smell a new person
You were ,ore lucky if they walk past you
Same as London because it’s a big city
Ive worked with a few new yorkers in LA. They were all obnoxious and egotistical, but strangely after cussing you out (in attitude, not literally), they acted like nothing happened ..small sample but that has been my experience with transplanted coworkers from NYC.
Unless you don't respond to them
When I went to Buffalo, NY , I was very surprised to see polite & friendly people. However when I moved to New York City, ummmmm urghhhhhhhh !!!!!
😆🤣😂
The drivers there are just as mean there. I lived there for a while.
Yes , they are !
My advice to anyone living in New York is to just Move. New York isn’t worth it anymore
New York doesn't have Southern charm. That is for sure. It is not the rudest city I have ever experienced. Chicago is worse. Rochester, upstate NY could be ruder.
Boston is also pretty rude.
I found New yorkers very real and authentic, just busy. But maybe it’s because I see it from my German perspective
So basically... Ny'rs are rude cause they live in a Scathole city. Got it!
@@whoyacallinpinhead Your comment made me really uncomfortable
@@babayada2015 what about it? Also what a good example of not minding your own business. Really had to come in and say that, huh?

Exploding homelessness

Tons of parking tickets
Extreme rising cost of living and tuition

I don't find New Yorkers that rude. Not compared to Floridians. Florida has some of the rudest people I have ever seen those people are mean.
Foreal i feel New Yorker are loud and disrespectful in florida if u call someone something rude your gonna get punched we dont argue or yell im from ny but raised florida so its my home
Look, there's a distinction between impolite and inconsiderate...

There's trash on the road and all ....I'm ready to go back home
2:03 I'm surprised he didn't get punched in the face they way he just feels its okay to jump in people's faces like that.
Yeah typical New Yorker mentality
@@BeingVeganllc Are you claiming that unexpectedly jumping in a person's face and raising your hand to point a finger inches away from someone's face acceptable behavior?
They can see he has a cameraman recording him so then know at least why he’s doing it. It’s a lil odd but it’s as easy as “excuse me” and continuing about your day like most of the people in the video did. So thanks for proving my point I’ve had New Yorkers tell me that so much as saying “Good morning” can get them mad enough to start a fight so I’m convinced New Yorkers are just inherently mean “because we have to be” “This city move too fast to be nice man”
@@BeingVeganllc Very poor try at justifying the rude and intrusive actions of this guy.
@@journeykid1not a problem to me, kinda petty getting offended by such harmless stuff
New Yorkers aren't very nice, but we're kind. You have a flat tire? Well help you change it, but we'll curse you out while doing so. To quote cousin Johnny T, "We like tourists. But between the hours of 4 and 6pm, go fast or get outta the way."
I thought people from LA are the rudest
It is LA Is the rudest new yorkers are better
I can’t tell if people are being nice or if they’re just on a crack binge.
Having worked in a call center that deals with customers from all over America, it’s rare to encounter a nice East Coast person!
when i went to new york, i was able to sense a different feeling in the air. i thought they were entitled but i was wrong, it was just rudeness
Rude people make NYC look bad. There's no point in people being rude and doing what the devil tells rude people to do. They need to pray more and ask God to give them strength and blessings to get through the stress they go through everyday.
god never answered my prayers so fuck him if he is real my life is still hell and probably will always be hell

I Always say "Pardon Me" instead. It just sounds So Much More Polite. From now on, whenever I get Thee Ole NY Excuse me, I'm going to reply with, "Pardon Me, Sorry to be in you're way". 🤔🗽🏢🌃

New Yorkers aren’t rude it’s just that New York is a very busy place so we like to get things done quick and when people try to disrupt what we try to do, it’s gonna come out in a disrespectful way.
And that disrespecful way could sometimes lead to violence, which is not worth going to jail for.

Rude New Yorker: Old white guy that easily got pissed off just because your tote bag brushed on his should. "Jeez fuck, what the hell are you doing?!"
Literally my experience at Queens Center Place.
Bless.
I think they're just paying for the name. Paying to be able to say, " I live in New York City."
Okay, I am done ranting about this. lol
People are not nice because that's what they chose to be. Bitter. Not everyone in New York has a negative behavior. Some people are very nice depending on where you go around the city.
The “rude” New Yorker comes out of me when I’m in a country ass area and they test me.
Test you how? Most country people I know are very polite
Our next-door neighbor in Los Angeles who owned the apartment building next to our house was a native New Yorker and she described life there in this way: "Lead, follow, or get out of the way." That sounds about right.

I disagree. I've been to NYC twice and found New Yorkers to be quite friendly on both occasions
Now, as a Californian, I can attest to Los Angeles people being awful. Two years ago, I twisted my ankle there and three places in LA literally refused to let me sit down and rest it up. Extremely haughty and superficial in LA (not just Hollywood. The entire city)

It just depends where you are in New York and most New Yorkers don't have time to talk, and the busy. From a boy who whole family that native New Yorkers I was born in Raleigh, North Carolina the #50th rudest city so the nicest city, it's true... people just don't have time, they hate having to write things off like a few missed bucks, and walk fast we're all struggling but it's not all people though there some nice ones...
It's true tho. People from Boston ARE also rude.
You can’t generalize that many people. But being from the Midwest I’ve definitely gotten a lot of off-putting, cocky attitudes from New Yorkers.
