Hey just one thing when you are putting lead in the bait make sure your separate pieces have the same sink rate that way there will be no friction between your joint so it will swim way better.

Looking good, you dont need a drill press but you definitely need a vice

    • @chrislnflorida5192

I was gonna say the same thing needing a vice.
But, i believe he had 1 towards the end of his process.

I drill holes into blank areas of a metal sinker mold to make belly weights. I score the bottom so I can add a wire hook hanger if I want for crankbaits, or leave the wire off for other belly weights.
I seal the bait, assemble it, then use masking tape to tape belly weight on to test in a tub or pool. I can move the weights around, add and subtract to get the exact sink, rise or suspend I want.
Once I have it weighted correctly, I take hooks off, hinge pin out, and drill holes and epoxy the weights on. I smooth over the belly weights by making wood putty with fine sawdust from the band saw and epoxy.
I sand it down, one more seal coat, then paint, clear coat and final assemble.
    Great looking bait u made.

You forgot to seal it before you tested it, be careful doing that moisture in the wood can cause the clear coat to bubble and peel

Been making clay prototypes all winter, and have 4 bigger-profile, soft plastic custom baits that I am gonna throw all this year. It's going to feel awesome to be different on the water. Your glide looks cool! It really is such a cool feeling to see a lure that You made, come to life on the water!

Pre-drill with a 3/16” bit after center-punching your hole spot. Then your big bit will go so much easier!! Looks great bud! Gonna hafta bring one over to Dale Hollow and see what our big Brown-backs think of them!

Just a little advice brother next time you use your bandsaw drop the roller bearing guide to about 1/8" or so from your work peice. It definitely helps keep the cut a lot straighter up and down with less room for the blade to flex. Awesome job as always Ben and keep up the awesome videos brother!

hey you want swiveling hook hangers try the Spro cane swivels the heavy duty ones that can hold like 250 lbs. just drill a hole in the side the swivel in the bottom of the bait and then glue the swivel in. BOOM! swiveling hook hangers.

You may want to invest in an orbital sander if your interesting in making more of these. Easy to get the shape your looking with one. Palm sander would help too.

LOL 3) Your kid looks like mine did at his age so I really like seeing you take the time to make him a part of vids sometimes. 4) I wish you could make a spider lure. You crush bass with that more than anyone else I've seen. LOL
