In the carribean we make 'Bush tea' which is like mint ginger turmeric, and a different version of lemon grass called fever grass - I add garlic, onion, black pepper and lemon and drink it non stop when I have a cold. Not sure how it tastes 🤷🏾♀️ but it's my go to with pho broth. Feel better 💛
I justed tested positive today. Made your soup and had it boiling while I went to the clinic. It's strong but good. Paired with some garlic bread and ooooouuuuweee. Delicious. Thanks for sharing a simple yet tasty recipe.

The bamboo shaped green fleshy vegetable is Celtuce (wōsǔn) and it’s a glorious vegetable that’s super super good, especially when in season and young. Use a vegetable peeler to remove the tough outer layer (like sometimes is done with asparagus). Celtuce can be prepared simply sliced on a bias, then stir fried with some pork, garlic, and chili pepper. Worth seeking out and trying. It has an excellent crunchy-texture and slightly nutty taste. Great video and glad you’re recovering well.
@@M3TALfoREVer1 the closest is broccoli stems in terms of texture but the wosun taste is a lot more delicate. A traditional Shanghai preparation is to julienne cut it, salt it to remove some extra water and add fine cut scallions and flash sizzle hot oil on top. It is a delicious and wonderful liang cai.
@@M3TALfoREVer1 It's a pretty unique vegetable. Maybe lotus root, but that doesn't have the vegetal and nutty character. Bamboo shoot, maybe, but those are even harder to find.
Is it just me or his kitchen is sorta like an art museum (in a good way) like the way all things are sorted out, the kitchenwares variety, the lighting
I feel this so hard. My mom used to make soups for me depending on what kind of sick I was but garlic soups are my favorite. I caught COVID when it first came to America and my senses of smell and taste still haven't fully recovered. Hugs to you. I hope you're feeling top shape soon.
Thank you for the video and I'm glad you're feeling better!!! Not dealing with covid currently, but I had it TWICE and I would have loved this. I'm recovering from a cold at the moment and I'm considering making this. I made some great broth to drink from chicken broth, thyme, lemon, salt, pepper, and garlic. Also, I'm so glad you got your smell and taste back so fast. I lost it for OVER A WEEK. It was horrible, terrifying, and I thought I'd never enjoy food again. Side note, funny story about losing taste/smell: I couldn't taste anything, but I could tell when two flavors didn't go together. Like, I ate a grapefruit after JUST brushing my teeth and it immediately gave me that "bleh" reaction even though I COULDN'T FREAKING TASTE.
As someone who was born without smell it's kind of interesting to hear others opinions on it. Like it obviously sucks and I'd prefer no one experiencing it, but it's interesting to hear the difference in experience. My mom also lost hers for a bit and finally believed me when I said I couldn't taste certain things. The thing with knowing that things don't go together could be because you already knew the taste something would have, like phantom smell or you only lost your smell, but the small amount of taste was too little to actually notice. Not that it helps you, but that's my two cents
@@jonkung thanks so much love. Same for you. I’ve been trying to get paxlovid and it’s not available near me unless k go to the hospital and I really don’t want to go 🥹😢
Oh, this brings back memories of my Grandpa's garlic soup... Chicken broth, many heads of garlic, and then just before serving, he'd run it through the blender with a few handfuls of parsley. It cut down on the garlic breath, but you could always tell when we'd had it. 😆
Shaking the garlic skin off in two bowls has turned out to be a great idea for a lot of garlic ty💙 Also the pins are so great. Wishing you a speedy and full recovery.
I feel you. I came back with Steve from vacation because the person next to me and the person across the aisle on the plane were both coughing the whole flight and of course they were not wearing masks. My favorite thing to do with viruses is to burn it out with the hottest Thai or Korean food that I can stand, but this garlic soup sounds amazing.
Poach an egg in the stock. Place egg at bottom of bowl with 'migas' (stale baguette semi crumbled). Ladle your garlic soup in and drizzle olive oil; you're in Spain.
I made this soup this morning. Added protein and a simple 5 minute egg. After I got food down I added some brown rice on the side to give me some more calories. Great soup!
I just attended a crowded volunteer event and I woke up this morning feeling a little icky in my throat and chest. I'm going to preemptively make this soup and slam it, just in case. I'm also triple vaxxed so just like you, this is more of a "it can't hurt" :)
I love that you mentioned that your body recognized COVID because you are vaccinated and boosted. You did it in such a way as maybe people who think this is a conspiracy will actually take notice. Thank you for that. And I am glad you're feeling better. The soups looked delicious. I've made sopa de ajo many times and it's one of my favorites.

Hearing you try to describe both a water Chestnut and a lotus root was hilarious And I also wasn't expecting to hear you use the phrase "filler queen" 😳

Glad you're already on the mend! I finally tested positive two days ago, was fine most of the day but suddenly felt exhausted in the evening. Went to bed and couldn't even get up until this evening.
