I lost my wallet in Reykjavik. It fell out on the street while I was walking. I backtracked when I realized it was missing and found it still lying there. When I told a guy about it that night, he said, "Why were you worried? No one would've taken it." Definitely NOT in America anymore.

As a 6'4 icelandic man myself...I can vouche that not every man goes for one night stands. It's normally a two night stand. 2 nights of sex before getting to know you. That way, we'd know the 1st night wasn't a fluke. Cause on the 3rd night...it's usually when we propose...to try in getting to know you. And a couple of one night stands more, we just get down on our knees and propose marriage. We really don't like wasting time.

The word “please” does exist in Icelandic, it’s “vinsamlegast”, most commonly paired with other polite words such as “gætiru” or “could you”. So basically please = could you please in Icelandic.

We have a word for 'please', it's 'vinsamlegast'. We even have some phrases that translate roughly to 'please'. I'm not sure where the misinformation is happening, but maybe it's because it's not strictly a *direct* translation? It's true that we use it less often and in fewer contexts than North Americans or British speakers, for instance. We do some modal verb stuff when, for example, politely asking someone to do something: "væriru til í að hjálpa mér?" eng: "would you be willing to help me?" In contexts like these, you don't need 'vinsamlegast', although you can add it at the end to be extra polite.

That greeting sounds like the Swedish "tack för senast", although as a Swede, I usually only understand at most 10-20% of spoken Icelandic... (Sorta like if there'd be a remote island where people still spoke the Anglo-Saxon of Beowulf...)
And I think the concept of not having a directly translateable "Please" is common in all Scandinavian languages. And that detached "rudeness" reminds me of my Norwegian father...
