First time commenting on Raelan's video's after binge watching them for weeks and trying so many different techniques suggested. I have had long covid since July last year and that has subsequently escalated into a Classic EDS diagnosis. I have had chronic fatigue since July last year and I have tried so many things to try to get rid of this. I have been in a flare up since starting my LDN medication in early December, which works wonders for my pain.... so great in fact I thought I no longer needed to be on a strict diet to mitigate my pain symptoms. Skip forward to 4 days ago when I did my first extended fast since early December and I'm suddenly feeling like I am actually crawling out of it. I will still continue to use and I actually feel so transformed from having implimented the techniques that Raelan has given me, and they seemed to be having a positive impact and by far the best information I've had so far. I never thought once to link my current fatigue flare up to the diet that I had in December. I do keto, absolutely no sugar except from berries. Very strict with the fruit I consume. Food is a battle for me, its one day at a time, but the results are so miraculous. I've only just found this video. I cannot wait to start fermenting things (literally, never thought I would think this). What I would say is once I am on a stable, upward spiral with food it becomes second nature to me, but when I am on a downward spiral I can let it escalate quickly. When I first became unwell, I was very poorly and I could not understand the true extent of it, I tried all sorts of dietary habits, fasting, etc and it just made me more unwell. Balance your diet out with mineral supplements. They will stop the cravings. Replace sugar with raw honey and unhealthy items with healthy options. Walk 30 mins a day
I did the carnivore diet and did heal from neuropathy, brain inflammation, and got back to a normal weight. I switched to a program with a diet called the GAPs diet. It basically heals your gut with meat stock, boiled meat and veggies, and then add in fermented kefir. Usually this is for people with MCAS( histamine issues) but i was told this would heal CFS. I have to say at weeks 8 I feel absolutely terrible. My CFS is worse then ever. Initially when doing the detox yes all my symptoms got worse as expected. They leveled out a bit but I feel like i am severe now and cant escape it. Im started Somatic therpay and brain spotting and i think that will be my cure. I will continue to heal my gut but i honestly dont think i need to do this diet and be so restrictive with food. I do agree with healthy eating and low sugar. But i cant figure out how much a detox diet is worth it if even at week 8, you're still worse off. I hate to quit if it will work but to me its just more miserable and making me weaker. And i cant affors to be more weak. Any help would be mich appreciated ❤
Thanks for sharing your story! If you can, post some videos of what you actually ate! It's REALLY hard to navigate the diet aspect of this while you're ill and I am constantly looking for what those who have recovered actually ate! Hope you keep making videos!
Thanks Richard, this is a great idea! I'm slowly working on getting some items in my playlist here "Vegan Recipe staples", but a coupe videos with a general overview of the food I eat is a really good idea. Thanks for the suggestion!
Raelan I love how much information you give and how quickly and thoroughly. I would like to know if you eat any meat and if so, what type and how often?
So glad you enjoyed the video, Melody! Initially I cut out all animal products for about 3 months and then after that stuck to about a 95% plant-based diet (eating meat about once per week). When I do eat meat it is mostly while eating out or ordering delivery, and I eat a wide variety of things 😊
Thank you so much for this! How do I overcome my sugar addiction? It's especially worse with hormones. I feel this is one of the things holding me back from getting better.
Raelan is it normal to get worse before getting better? I eliminated vegetables and i was getting mad with adrenaline rushes…now i reintroduced them but i’m super fatigued….
I have been doing this for years and I'm also into bodybuilding yet I still developed chronic fatigue. I don't know what to do anymore, could it be caused by something else like stress.
There can be viral causes and many others. You need to see a well-qualified Functional Medicine Doctor. There are many charlatans so choose wisely. This person can get to the cause.
Re: caffeine - I have recently reached a point in recovery where caffeine has become beneficial instead of making me sicker. It used to deplete my adrenals and energy, cause worse brain fog, interrupt my sleep, and worse. But now coffee gives me a little energy bump that doesn’t feel abnormal, it doesn’t affect my sleep at all, or anything else negatively for that matter. I take this as a sign my autonomic nervous system is going back into more of a normal state.
I'm thrilled to hear that you're enjoying my channel, Kathy! I'm not familiar with this particular brand of sauerkraut, but I've come to learn that often ones that are stored in the refrigerated section of the grocery store will likely still have live probiotics in them, whereas the ones stored out on the shelves at room temperature likely do not. It seems that the processing required to make it safe to sit on shelves for months kills off most of the probiotics. I hope that helps!
In the daily intermittent fasting, I probably missed this, but did you say you drank juices during the fasting time? Or was that only when you did the 1-3 days of juice fasting? (Apparently I’m going to haunt all of your recovery videos. I’m desperate to find a way out of this. I’ve been sick and getting worse for almost 20 years.)
Wow, that's such a long time to be struggling with this. I'm so sorry to hear that - I think anyone would be feeling the same desperation. When I do daily intermittent fasting I consume any healthy liquid that I want. So it could be juice, kombucha, tea, water, and now that I'm recovered this also includes some really low caffeine coffee.
I suspect that's individual - for me I could manage small amounts and seemed to be ok. For others perhaps it's still too much? People seem to have varying levels of sensitivity to caffeine don't they!
Can I ask what you do to get enough omega 3? I absolutely love oily fish and sprinkle chia seeds on my salads to try help my omega 3/6 ratio. Eggs used to be high but in omega 3 but sadly, due to modern farming methods they are now very low in omega 3.
Hi Jackie! Breakfast is usually where I target this one - I make smoothie bowls that have some combination of ground flaxseed or hemp seed in them and I top the bowl with granola that has chia and/or walnuts in it 😊
Thanks for the video, was very informative! Can I ask what sort of timeframe you started to notice the effects of incorporating these changes? E.g. when you first started to feel a bit better / time to full recovery from start of these changes?
Glad you enjoyed it, Piers! With food changes I started noticing improvements within a couple of weeks. During the time I was serious about recovery it took about two years for all symptoms to disappear.
Hey Charlotte! In my experience, both smoothies and juicing have done me good in terms of recovery. I've found more intense results from juicing, so smoothies worked well for me when I wasn't up for the intensity of juicing. Both should be giving your body a break in terms of digestion I would think! But I'm not a doctor so can only share what my experience was. And yes - I've also used the cheesecloth method for squeezing the juice out and have found that it works quite well!
Hi Jamo, I kept (and still keep) my fasting window the same 7 days per week, life permitting. My regular schedule is to eat between 10am -6pm, so an 8 hour eating window and 16 hour fasting. When I was still sick and actively working on recovery I would periodically for shorter periods (a couple weeks at a time) reduce my eating window to around 4 hours, only eating between 1pm-5pm for example. :)
GREETINGS, YOUR CHANNEL WAS A RESULT OF MY UA-cam SEARCH ON CFS. I'M BLOOD TYPE B AND I CAN'T BE ON A PLANT BASED DIET! I NEED TO EAT MEAT LIKE LAMB. HAVE YOU RECEIVED FEEDBACK FROM OTHERS WHO TRIED YOUR DIET WITH MY BLOOD TYPE?
Hello, nice to hear from you! Unfortunately no, I'm not sure what the blood type of others is but I have definitely heard from people who say that they do better on a meat-based diet. It seems we all need to experiment and find the food path that our body responds to the best. Wishing you all the best with this 😊
You'll probably find that the blood type diets have been debunked. That stuff is a load of fluff. That said there's nothing wrong with meat. Just not too much of it :)
Thanks alot for the wonderful channel ❤️. Do you eliminate eating all types of meat like beef , chicken, sea food.. etc. in the whole time of your recovery time and come back to eating meats after the recovery ?. So, are you vegan or vegetarian?.
Glad you're finding it helpful, Sadeem! I eliminated all types of meat that you mentioned for almost two years, and not I eat some small portions of meat. The bulk of my meals are still vegan, but I do now how some meals with meat.
Hi Raelan, thank-you for sharing your knowledge and this video. I am interested if you took any supplements during your recovery as recommended by a number of Drs who are experts in CFS?
This is amazing actually, I am trying to have baby number 2 but my cfs is worse as I had a baby 6 years ago via c section. I was vegan before I conceived and I stayed vegan 6 months into pregnancy and my energy was not this bad when I was vegan but I didnt do it well enough so my albumin protein levels were deficient in my pregnancy. Might give it another go xx
Congrats on working on growing your family! I imagine that this is both exciting and scary, considering your health challenges. And yes, diet can be so tricky can't it. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a one size fits all for this. I hope you find what works for you and sending huge hugs for your wellness journey! 💛
Amy, I now eat small portions of meat, but still largely plant based. I never had this checked (not recently anyway!) so can't say for sure. We all seem to need different things with diet, perhaps this isn't best for you
Coffee induced nausea was one of my 1st symptoms! ive had maybe 3 cups of 1/2 tspoon coffee in the 6 years since. It's probably the ONE thing thats bad for ya that ive adhered to all this time XD Im glad you found it useful, but for most, it messes with the adrenals, kidneys n that boom-bust cycle seems to be more prolonged i learnt from handful of others online iv spoken to
Hello! I came to same conclusion on my heal journey!!! I try to find people recovered and is always down to food. Did you have Orthostatic intolerance while you had ME/CFS? I am wondering if that will also go as you heal. I am in recovery currently. And have implemented a lot of the same things you did.
Hey! Thanks so much for sharing this. It's so interesting how so many of us come to the same conclusions and find similar paths. It's good that more and more we are all sharing our stories and seeing what works. I didn't have that specific symptom though so I'm not sure when that one will go away. Hopefully soon because that sounds like a challenging one. Wishing you all the best with your own recovery and I hope that all the hard work you're doing and changes you are making pay off for you quickly 😊
hi Siti, I'm referring to any sugar that isn't found naturally occurring in food. So yes, chocolates and instant food that have sugar in the ingredient list would be a part of this 😊
I’m a bit confused in your recovery videos you said you tried raw vegan and your hair fell out. I’d be curious to see what foods you eat in a day/week etc. Did you cut out gluten too? My oxalates are high so I have to avoid quite a few veg and fruit so to cut out meat would leave me with even less options
Hey Charmaine! It sounds like you're having quite a tough time, I'm so sorry that you're facing this right now. Yeah, for me a raw vegan diet didn't seem to help me at all (even though it quite possibly might work wonderfully for some others). But a cooked vegan diet has been a game changer for me personally. It gives a broader variety of foods such as beans and lentils, grains, potatoes, etc. that the raw vegan diet does not allow. I tried cutting out gluten during the first couple of years that I was sick and it did't seem to help me at all, so I've been back eating gluten ever since. I know it causes some people problems, but I seem to be fine. I can see how with the restrictions that you have with fruits and vegetables that a vegan diet might be challenging for you. It isn't going to be for everyone, for sure. Sending you my best with all of this, I know how challenging it can be to figure it all out!
Thank you - it’s so hard to know what is the right diet for you personally, I’ve tried a few and haven’t noticed any major changes. I’m trying to eat only organic foods but it’s so difficult in the uk we are behind the us in that sense. Hopefully when my oxalate level is reduced I can try vegan; I think you would be the perfect person to make a cook book. I love your videos btw you are very inspiring x
@@misscharmaineX it IS so hard, isn't it? Sometimes it feels like the more researching and experimenting you do, the more lost you are. I'm so relieved that I seem to have finally found what works best with my body, but it took years to sort that out. The organic thing can be challenging for sure, I relate to that! For what it's worth, I did the bulk of my healing while living in Indonesia where organic food is incredibly difficult to find. So even though I imagine that eating organic food would be optimal, for me at least, it wasn't necessary. And thanks so much for the cook book suggestion! I have thought about it actually! Perhaps one day. I really do appreciate the positive feedback so much, so thank you for that! Hang in there Charmaine & I hope you find what works for you soon ❤️
Hey! In step 5 you mention no cereals? Do you mean breakfast cereals that you might get in a box at the store, or all cereal grains like oats, corn, etc? I'm off wheat and that seems to be helping me. Thank you for making these videos :)
Hi, thanks a lot for sharing your experience, Im a medicine doctor, an I wanted to let u know that maybe you should check your thyroid gland, I noticed something unusual at your neck.
Am afraid to give up on meat 1. Because i think i will loose muscle even more and feel more weak 2. Because i simple cant digest tofu , beans, lentils....it all falls so heavy on my stomach
i got cfs 25 years ago i was told bye a friend to give up alochol and become a vegiterian did i do it no i am still sick so its time to change because i cant take much more i am getting worse as i get older now
No one diet will work for everybody. A vegetarian diet may work for one person and not another. Alcohol may be fine for some but not others. It's really trial and error!
I believe this is all true. Thank you, Raelan, for taking the time to present this information. I have CFS as a symptom of reactivated Epstein Barr virus since 2014. How did you make change from the regular American diet, to the whole foods diet and intermittant fasting? Is there a step program? Is the order sequence, the 12345 as you listed?
Hi Luann, this was helpful for me but of course I don't know if it will be helpful for others :) This was my approach with this ua-cam.com/video/pV1KN5gAUE4/v-deo.html
now the cause of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is found: radiation of microwaveoven.(magnetron) To stop you have to eliminate the oven out of the house. The plug out of electricity net because the oven has also radiation when it is not in use.And out of the house because the oven has a high voltage capacitor. The distance between an oven and a person is very important. After a 2 weeks without microwaves health becomes better.
So grateful for anyone who steps out of their comfort zone to share what helped them through their season of healing!

The first point (probiotic foods) is frustrating for me because one of my issues is a histamine intolerance.
Me too
Very interesting video!

Thank you so much for this x
You're so welcome, Sarah!
When you say whole, vegetable foods, would you include quorn for protein or tufu or not? Thank you so much for all your help x
Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Very useful for cfs patients
Raelan I love how much information you give and how quickly and thoroughly. I would like to know if you eat any meat and if so, what type and how often?
So glad you enjoyed the video, Melody! Initially I cut out all animal products for about 3 months and then after that stuck to about a 95% plant-based diet (eating meat about once per week). When I do eat meat it is mostly while eating out or ordering delivery, and I eat a wide variety of things 😊
Thank you so much

Loved " energy loan shark!"
So besides kombucha and kraut what are some fermented foods you can regularly buy in America?
How do you ferment your own?
Thank you so much. What do you suggest for protein?
Thank you so much for this! How do I overcome my sugar addiction? It's especially worse with hormones. I feel this is one of the things holding me back from getting better.
what fermented and whole food plant based foods are you eating?
eat right for your blood type helped me
Interesting, great to hear Tom!
@@RaelanAgle thank you !! so many covid "long haulers" getting chronic fatigue" very sad
Raelan is it normal to get worse before getting better? I eliminated vegetables and i was getting mad with adrenaline rushes…now i reintroduced them but i’m super fatigued….
I'm freshly diagnosed and very afraid to make it worse.. 😟
I'm sorry to hear that Verena, I hope you find what you need to get past this quickly 💛
@@andyhamilton9459 I wish I could but I haven't been able to work and functional medicine doctors are expensive as f***.
@@TheFracturedfuture how are you doing today?

Thanks Raelan, I wonder if you're still powering on with this diet or if you've added some things back in?
Hi @Raelan , did you already eat rice or gluten free grains? Die you also have MCAD?
Re: caffeine - I have recently reached a point in recovery where caffeine has become beneficial instead of making me sicker. It used to deplete my adrenals and energy, cause worse brain fog, interrupt my sleep, and worse. But now coffee gives me a little energy bump that doesn’t feel abnormal, it doesn’t affect my sleep at all, or anything else negatively for that matter. I take this as a sign my autonomic nervous system is going back into more of a normal state.
Dr Teitelbaum doesn't say to ditch the caffeine. He says one cup of coffee, or preferably tea, in the morning is fine and then to switch to decaf.
Do you eat things like noodles made out of only lentils? Or wud u only eat the whole lentil? Do you use maple syrup at all?
What you take for pain and weakness
Energy saving summary-
1. Avoid processed food, alcohol, caffeine, added sugar.
2. whole food plant based diet.
3. Fermented foods.
4. Intermittent fasting.
5.Juice fasting for 1 to 3 days.
👍
What about gluten?
Can you elaborate what is whole food plant based diet
It's eating no animal or animal products (eggs, dairy). It's a vegan diet with no processed foods (only whole foods in their natural form) 😊
Thank you for this video, it was very helpful, but I’m surprised that reducing stress wasn’t one of the top 5.
Hi Zeinbab, this is a video about food. I have many videos that talk about the importance of reducing stress 😊
@@RaelanAgle thank you, your videos are very helpful
When you talk about caafein I Wonder if you also meeen green tea ?
I just found your channel. I love it so far! What are your thoughts of Bubbies sauerkraut. Is is still a good source of probiotics?
I'm thrilled to hear that you're enjoying my channel, Kathy! I'm not familiar with this particular brand of sauerkraut, but I've come to learn that often ones that are stored in the refrigerated section of the grocery store will likely still have live probiotics in them, whereas the ones stored out on the shelves at room temperature likely do not. It seems that the processing required to make it safe to sit on shelves for months kills off most of the probiotics. I hope that helps!
Thanks!
Relan please tell me about your supliment
What about green tea as a source of caffeine?
I suspect that's individual - for me I could manage small amounts and seemed to be ok. For others perhaps it's still too much? People seem to have varying levels of sensitivity to caffeine don't they!
@@RaelanAgle yes I agree and I drink caffeine but my body starting to ask not for it no
Can I ask what you do to get enough omega 3?
@@RaelanAgle Thanks for your reply Raelan! Wow 2 years is a long path, good job on getting past it though - gives other hope they can too :)
Which type of teas can you recommend for the recovering process? Since I do enjoy drinking black tee normally but I didnt notice it helping.
I don't know of any that specifically aid recovery, but for me the ones without caffeine (herbal) were best :)
Can I do smoothies instead of juicing? Or can I blend the veg/fruit and then use a cheesecloth to squeeze the juice out and separate it from the pulp?
Hey Charlotte! In my experience, both smoothies and juicing have done me good in terms of recovery. I've found more intense results from juicing, so smoothies worked well for me when I wasn't up for the intensity of juicing. Both should be giving your body a break in terms of digestion I would think! But I'm not a doctor so can only share what my experience was. And yes - I've also used the cheesecloth method for squeezing the juice out and have found that it works quite well!
Can you give ideas for breakfast, lunch and dinner?
What do you do when you're traveling?
Hi Jim, here's a breakdown of how I structure and plan my meals: ua-cam.com/video/pV1KN5gAUE4/v-deo.html
Hi , how did your fasting window look ? And Was it the same every day or some day off and on ? Thank you
Hi Jamo, I kept (and still keep) my fasting window the same 7 days per week, life permitting. :)
Did you eat wholemeal flour?
Yes, it doesn't seem to bother me as far as I can tell :)
@@simongarner5340 I USE AUTHOR PETER DADAMO'S BLOOD TYPE DIET. MY EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN GOOD.

Yes I I did originally but didn't find them especially helpful. :)
How do you find your iron levels without meat? That’s something my body struggles with.
Amy, I now eat small portions of meat, but still largely plant based. I never had this checked (not recently anyway!) so can't say for sure. We all seem to need different things with diet, perhaps this isn't best for you

Dear Raelan, may i ask for further clarification, what do you mean by added sugar. do you mean rice, chocolate, instant food etc
Siti
Malaysia
hi Siti, I'm referring to any sugar that isn't found naturally occurring in food.

I was referring to box cereals I believe :)

Fermented foods are so sour....
now the cause of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is found: radiation of microwaveoven.(magnetron)
To stop you have to eliminate the oven out of the house.
The plug out of electricity net because the oven has also radiation when it is not in use.And out of the house because the oven has a high voltage capacitor.
The distance between an oven and a person is very important. After a 2 weeks without microwaves health becomes better.
That's very interesting Dirk, thanks for sharing 😊
