I have been struggling with an old screen all afternoon and was so relieved to see that I am not the only one struggling to get this spline out. All the other videos I watched make it look so easy! Love the razor knife idea - I am struggling with screen stuck in the groove even after the spline is out!
Your razor blade tip saved my ass; cutting it into pieces/ strips and driving a flat head thru to push them out worked like a charm. I got 2 more windows to do but it's nighttime now so ima leave them for the weekend cuz dam they're freaking in there hard
My dog went through a screen door in a home I was visiting so here I am. I was having trouble with the spline , just like shown above. However, when I found the initial area-(top left ) where it was started , I was able to get a good grasp of it and it come out easy- praise the LORD! I am glad it went that way. My arthritis is bad today and I pulled my back muscle. God was gracious . Thanks for the video and inspiring me to pray. I didn’t think I could have taken hours to chisel it out. Not today. You helped me and I am grateful.
I have some garage door screens to replace and this morning I could not remove much of the old, very brittle spine that was in the tracks. I will next try to spit the old spine and dig it out the way you showed. Thank you!
Thanks for the tips! Glad to know I am not the only one struggling at least. Unfortunately the spline I am fighting with is installed on the top of a pool enclosure roof so I can't get it down and work comfortably in a chair 😆😆 *sigh* ...Oh and some parts of it have also been sealed with rubber cement by the previous homeowners so, yayyyy 🤦♀️
Buy the tool from hardware store has a curve like the tool you made but its a razor blade. Cut along the seam several times to break the pressure, straight up and down, pry out with electronics screwdriver
I gave up after an hour. Will try your technique. Thanks, screen man.

Damn this is still as much of a pain in the ass as I thought it would be after starting on it. Thanks for the tips though.
Great video! Thanks so much!
Thanks!
I guess , at the end of the day, there is no easy way to get that old Spline out....
Thanks for the info. I have to do our patio door, and the spline has hardened. If I remember, I will come back soon and let you know how it went. :)
Please do!

Do you have anything that doesn't include making a custom pick??
Try using a heat gun to soften the spline/chord easy easy
