@Probable Possibilities Don't do that. Pianos are a little too big and they don't like tight areas. It stresses them out and they'll get out of tune (I know from experience). To wash a piano, you take it outside and you spray it with a hose.
When I wash my horn I like to place a towel in the bottom of the bathtub so my horn doesn't get stretched by any hard surfaces, just an additional bit of advice

You want to be careful when fully submerging your inner-slide in water. I'd recommend against doing that. Inside the top of your inner-slide is cork that stops the trombone making a 'clangy' sound when you come all the way into 1st position. The cork helps 'soften' the slide when you come to first position so people can't hear the brass hit the top of your slide. If you get that cork wet, it can disintegrate and fall out, and then you'll need to have it replaced.
Divergent_bowtie I just bought a trombone from an antique shop for $20, it plays, but the finish is gone, the slide is sticky, and it's a bit rusted. I should probably get a professional to clean it, I don't even have a snake brush Oh yeah and mine is from the early 1930's so it's about 88

Derek Lussier It won't prevent the need for a chem clean, but it will definitely prolong it. At a certain point, he'll have junk in the horn and on the slides that just won't come off without a chem clean, especially if he plays a lot.
do I need a snake or is that optional my grandpa just gave me a trumbone and it really old and needs cleaning and I am not sure if I need the snake for the bath and also what if there is a little bit of water droplets in side if the instrument is that okay?
If it's really old, it needs a professional chemical clean. Take it to a local instrument repair store. It should cost about $30-60. Really all brass need a chemical clean every 2-5 years.

Anyone can clean their trombone themselves. I'd recommend a professional clean only if you can't remove a bad smell, or certain parts of the trombone aren't working as well as they should (e.g the slide sounds scratchy when you move it, tuning slides no longer push out, slide is out of alignment etc). If you know what you're doing when cleaning your Trombone then you should be able to do a really good job.

Theatre Thot I bought a kit from Palen Music Center along with my instrument. I’d recommend getting a kit so you have these items: Slide oil/cream, tuning slide grease/oil, a snake, mouthpiece cleaner, a mouthpiece brush, and a microfiber cloth. Edit: My trombone is also a Jupiter.
My parents would be extremely concerned if I told them I was giving my trombone a bath- this is why I settle for doing the swabby scrubby thing after I play lol

It is if you go to a Trombone repairer. They can put new cork stoppers at the top of your inner slide quite easily.

Do you need to take the tuning slide off? And if you do it with trumpet do you need to take out the valves

Jeff Bob I would definitely use soap. I don't think it's necessary to use as much soap as in this video, but you should use soap.
Then your teacher doesn't understand the subject. If you don't use soap, you can't remove anything basically.
