Helpful tip: always turn the oxygen off before turning off the fuel.
Wish I had seen this comment 2 months ago……. 🤣
Why?
Thanks for the great video, it saved me from buying a new torch. I never realized how touchy the valves were.
Super-helpful video! I was able to get my piece brazed up in no time flat! Thanks a million!
Yessss! I had a fail today, first time out with my kit! I wasn't giving it enough oxygen, afraid I would burn through my metal. Excellent now! THX
Thank you so much, this is exactly what I was hoping to find online. I've messed around with the kit a tiny bit so far, and the knobs seemed so touchy that I didn't want to keep wasting gas. The oxygen kept blowing out my flame, and that's a little worrying when you're new to using torches.
The mapp knob is very coarse thread needs to be open about an 1/8 of a turn. The oxygen is a finer thread needs anywhere from 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 turns open. Thanks for watching!
I just picked up a set of these torches. Thanks for the tutorial on how to light them.
Duncan Coutts thanks for watching!
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Very helpful. I am about to fire mine up for the first time.
+Mark Smith thanks! Yeah I was frustrated at first until I figured it out. It works fine for the small stuff thanks for watching!
I used mine to cut a stripped lug nut from the stud without damaging the treads on the stud. Many of you are probably familiar with the technique of "washing" a nut off a bolt with a cutting torch without damaging the treads. Once the metal was molten I just increased the air flow enough to wash away the nut. You won't damage the threads as long as you are careful not to over heat the bolt/stud. As mentioned in the video wind can make it harder to keep enough heat on the metal to get it to a molten state.
I've used mine very little. Thanks for the short tutorial. 👍
Maybe it's just the camera angle but man the torch even facing the canisters sketches me out! 😂 But thank you for the informative video!
Really helpful video. i couldn't fire mine up at all. Thanks for your help. Have spent all afternoon brazing metal together.
Peter Gow no problem thanks watching!
11/2020. Bought one of these as I am tearing down a IRS cradle to rebuild it. Thanks a bunch.
If you are having trouble hearing what he says, turn on closed captioning (CC button). The words will be printed out on the screen. Excellent instructions - going to be brazing tomorrow!
Just what I needed to see! Thank you!!
Excellent video i needed this i just bought this set today be trying it out after watching the video
Thanks for sharing... I am now ready to use my torch...
Thanks for the guidance. I bought a set, used, cheap, and when I tried to light, was convinced the thing was not ok. Your method is awesome! Thanks for rescuing me. Lol. I, like you have the odd nut to heat up.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the great comment!
Omg I have been trying to use it for so long finally thanks
Jeff Piro no problem thanks for watching!
Was able to melt thin finishing nails to one another. I used it to braze a 1/8” thick flange onto 2” black pipe. It was a way for me to try gas welding compared to liquid o2 and refillable tanks.
You the man! Thanks for the tips!
Timothy Grondin thanks!
Thanks for the video, helped a lot, even after watching the video, I had to fiddle around with the knobs about ten minutes to get the flame rigt
Yeah it’s good for the small stuff nut and bolts. Thanks for watching!
Awesome, I got it working because of this video, the torch is terrible but it’s about 10time cheaper and 10 times easier to carry up a latter.
Thanks for watching
Thank you for the video.
Maaaasssive help. I was ready to box it up and return it. Have patience folks. Once you get the hang of it, it’s easy. I will also say my model looks a little different in the knob. 2 turns before oxygen comes begins to move.
Glad I could help
very helpful thank you so much
+charles philippe no problem glad I can help
I luv canned compressed air, turned upside down for freezing nuts/ bolts loose, where heat is an issue.
Freezing loose works even better if you can heat up the part.
Cool idea! (Pun intended) I’ll have to try it. Thanks for watching!
if what comes out is a cold liquid then it is not compressed air but more like butane or other compressed liquefied gas,,some is sold as gum remover ,also the same stuff used on athletes with bruises
I have an older set up. I only have propane and I wanted to test to see if the tip and all was alright before I went to buy a small tank of oxygen. Does anyone believe that if you hook up the propane without hooking the oxygen up, should you smell and feel a small bit of propane coming through the oxygen side of the hoses, or is this an inner seal issue in the mixing handle?
Thanks!!!!!! 🇨🇦
Thank you!!!
Shooter McGavin 👈🏻👈🏻 nice happy Gilmore ref
I have 2 of these torches. One has MAPP gas in it i know BUT where i have put it? Used it once a loooong time ago with no problem. Probably had the instructions! LOL Other one has propane and i was having problems getting it lit (like i see in the comments) UNTIL i was reminded here. THANKS. I barely cracked the propane open in order for it to STAY LIT. I don't think i even made it to your 11 O'clock position and it was blowing itself out. Anyways, problem solved. As far as the Oxygen, that will vary on what type of flame you are looking for. There other videos on YT explaining the different types of flame--- neutral, oxidizing, reducing---- what they are used for.
I have a strange feeling all the important info in these torch videos is said right when all these dudes light the torch, apparently right next to the mic.
Its the same with me. I tried to look up a way on how to properly adjust my torch. I end up having to pass by the important info at the end because of the sound of the flame over taking the speakers voice.
Thanks much
what about your torch tip what type of torch tip is that that it come off of the oxygen acetylene torch kit??
Thank you and yes, it hates outside. yes, it is cheap and inexpensive. However, I fixed something with it by brazing it with the rod that came with the kit. It got me out of a jam. I bought it probably 8 yrs ago and finally used it. Do you do any vids demonstrating any different rods/tips? I will def mark my valves with a paint marker. Exactly as you said, the O2 is slow so I over turned it too fast and had to keep playing with it til I got it right. your idea with the white paint would have saved me time. doah!
SpockMcoy Issmart thanks for watching. No sorry no videos with different tips.
@@DKTractors ok
Thank you for the vid! Ive been frustrated with mine not staying lit and not being able to get a decent flame. The included directions are terrible!
DK thanks for the tips ...I find the same , its light duty but all I need at times ...maybe once a year last time I used it the oxy valve was blocked or something , no flow I played around to get it working and took it off the bottle when it was stored in my garage , today I need it so I installed the valve for oxy and tried the full mapp cylinder valve now it is blocked stuck or seized , I can't find any info about freeing the torch valves up ...any thoughts ? thanks
deepvillage never heard that. Mine are in my unheated shed year round. Thanks for watching
Why not just use the mapp gas for the bolts by itself? I've done a lot of pump work with bearings on shafts and bolts, and for small stuff the mapp gas is plenty for it. For bolts definitely good enough.
Still hotter with oxygen for the really seized screws.
Thx
Does it say how hot it gets? I think the mapp on its own gets to 1100F. Im wondering does it get hot enough to braze copper lines
www.thoughtco.com/flame-temperatures-table-607307
sweet vid man. about how long do those tanks last you?? thanks
N C thanks for watching. Depends how often/long you use them continuous I would say 10-15 min.
What characteristic do I want in the flame to cut vs. weld vs. Forge?
Basically only cut aluminum steel would take a very long time.
I have a question. How long does the oxygen tank last for
Continuous about 10-15 min I think
So how do you determine how hot the flame is? Is it hotter the more oxygen you add?
Yes definitely hotter with oxygen
@@DKTractors does the flame get hotter the more oxygen you add?
I think ours came with en empty oxygen tank. We get nothing like this.
U have to turn it alot on the oxygen
Between 1.5 & 2 turns
Will it cut 1/8 in steel?
Don’t think so but I never tried either. If it could it would be slow and you’d consume a lot of gas.
10 to 15 mins for these bottles to run out is too expensive. Have you tried to hook up to larger bottles. Is there an adapter to do that?
Don’t know if any adapter. Eventually I will get a real rig that puts out much higher BTU.
There is a video on here somewhere about making an adaptor to suit a D size oxy bottle. Check out "Arcstreams" comment below.
Wow, I just got my unit, cheap, bought a pair of bottles for $55! At 10 minutes, any work will be wildly expensive. I can’t think of much I could do at $5.50 a minute that would not exceed the price of a new bolt and nut! I love the video, it was so helpful, but now I wish had passed on the purchase. Bernzomatic should label the box: “This unit burns through money”
ive watched 6 of these small torch kits and not one of them has anybody welded anything is the flame just for looks
I use it just to heat up rusty bolts.
Uh... thanks for the video but I have no clue what you said after you turned the oxygen up. All I heard was the torch with some mumbling in the background.
Tee Shark sorry yeah I bought a mic recently because of that. Basically comes down to having a mark on the knob to know how much you have rotated it. The small blue flame in the middle should be about an inch long.
Would this melt bolts ?
juan bermudez no maybe make a 4-40 red but that’s it.
DKTractors NStuff ah ok thank you
I just opened mine up and I'm trying to figure out how the stand works. I see you've gotten rid of yours and you're just using gear clamps.
They lean on it if I remember.
So I'm afraid that at the very end when I'm trying turn these things off this is the part that I blow up because I couldn't hear dam thing what he said after that
Sorry about the sound oxygen always gets turned off first then mapp.
Why doesn't the oxygen last long ?
Good question my guess would be it has to do with transportation and liability. Thanks for watching hope the video helped
plus you need a bit more psi on the oxy
ARCSTREAMS oxygen Can’t be compressed like map or propane can
technically it can be compressed into a liquid state but requires special double thermos cylinder unlike the simple tanks of map or propane you find at any hardware store,,but they still make those for oxygen only very little compressed oxygen in it and only in gas state,,they can pump more psi of oxy in the cylinder but they will say for some safety bs excuse that they wont so that is why these things do not last long at all ,i am lucky enough to have a 60CuF oxygen cyl that lasts very long time when i combine it with a small cyl of propane or map specially for my mini torch i made,,you can see a vid of it on my ch
@@ARCSTREAMS Cryogenic oxygen is very difficult to contain. It's why no probes or satellites use it. We're talking a "half life", so to speak, of couple weeks.
Went to go fix a hole… now I have 2 holes… FUCK
How long did you stay in that spot?
I can’t hear you..
it aint cheap once those 5 min lasting oxy crap bottles start runing you more than what you paid for the whole thing in no time flat
Hell yeah the first time I used mine it ran out so fast I thought someone used it before me and returned set, they put it back on shelf not knowing it was used then I buy it. But I think they just run out fast.
@@Surtac100 luckly i never had the dissatisfaction of ever using the oxy,,i only buy the propane too i dont bother with the map/pro which is twice as expensive and not that much useful in difference of heat ,,and for oxy i have my own 60cuf cyl that last me very long time in combination with a small propane cyl and my homemade mini blow torch ,,you can see it on a video on my ch if you like to have a look
Did he just put the flame on the oxygen line @ 3:18 ? Not smart at all.
No always start and end with the map.
Oxygen on at 4:15 of 5:15 video…..aaaaaand its empty😂😂
Write a script first
The reason why oxygen don't last is because its gas oxygen not liquid as the propane or mapp gas is.trust me don't spend the money.bernzomatic has a map unit the T-8000 that puts out good heat also the t 4000
I’ll have to try one thanks for watching
but do they get hot enough to braze?
Yes but very light duty
Thisi. Is a piece of crap I don't know why you are saying anything good about this torch...the torch is okay it will give lots of heat.you can braze easy with it....the problem is that the mapp gas will last a good while .. BUT the oxygen don't last but fifteen minutes at ten bucks a pop..gooood luck. I took I took it back .also the adjustments are horrible.I'm a retired machines and welder I wanted this unit for my hobbies..N.F.G
its bs ,they could put more than 1 measly cubic foot of oxy in those bottles but they wont,,i am good to go with my 60 cf heavy duty industrial oxy tank and a small B tank of propane or map pro
Wow you burned up a lot of gas by talking. No way I'm getting this stuff to burn up. People out there don't have the money to do what ur doing..
