Doing the home remedy allows the snake to build an immunity to these infections. Always seek advice from a reptile veterinarian in regards to any health concerns.
@@CookiesCritters she had a respiratory infection she's the one I spoke to you about a few weeks ago about how I did the same treatment as you did to you python by cleansing the mouth and nebulizing. No vets in my area really know anything about reptiles I travel 3 hours out of my town to another town to get her treatment and it was this one that was out of town that describe the baytril. She has gone into brumation now I don't think she was 100% better which is unfortunate I wanted her completely we'll before she went into brumation.
So my vet prescribed ceftazidime for one of my hognoses and I believe she did an IV injection (didn't pull back to check for blood and pointed out the little blood drop and said that means you did it right). I've read and heard everywhere else that this should be an IM injection and now I'm confused. She also said to stay away from the first third of the body which is also contradictory and concerning... Any advice?
Trying to do an intravenous injection on a reptile is difficult as their veins aren’t visible. I draw the syringe back to make sure that it’s not drawing in air (lungs), fluid (organs) and is in fact IM. An IM injection is the safest way to give a snake an antibiotic injection. The risk with a top 1/3 injection is injecting into the lungs and potentially causing pneumothorax (punctured lung) or pneumonia. I generally aim for just below the lungs and keep the injection shallow.
@@CookiesCritters thank you so much for your reply. Today is the day I have to do it for the first time and 3 days of research have made me very concerned about the instructions I was given. I'm going to go with my gut and your advice!
@@haliward2 I’m assuming that your hog nose has an RI. If so, it is a part of reptile keeping. In time you will become comfortable and confident with these injections. I hope your little one makes a full recovery soon. Make sure to persist with all the injections that the vet gave you. I’m assuming there was 9 including todays.
@@CookiesCritters it is an RI and my first experience with one. The second injection (my first) went ok I think. Had to take a break because my hand wouldn't stop shaking... She is very tiny after all. My vet said 5 injections which also seemed incorrect. Thank you so much for your kind words and advice.
@@haliward2 my first few injections were the same. I’m grateful that I had an experienced reptile vet to guide me. I’m the same, my hands would shake from the nerves too. It gets easier. Hopefully your little one is doing better. 🙏
What should I give my reticulated python for mouth rot I can not find a vet anywhere near me that will see my retic I tried the f10 mist and it’s still getting worse idk what to do
Your snake will need a coarse of antibiotics. Things like Baytril and Fortaz work well. You will need a vet to prescribe it though. What is the habitat like?
I think my boa constrictor has respiratory infection, i cant seek a vet because i have none around. I can buy baytril and give it to him but i dont know what dosage of baytril i should give to him. I will try washing his mouth with Chlorhexidine daily and i hope he will cure from it.
Anyone been given norodine 24 for RI? This is what my vets started for my ball python but can’t find anything about it online
Also should they be injected in the upper half or lower half of their body? I've heard contradicting advice
Upper 1/3 of body.
Cool video Ian 🥳
Thanks mate. 👍
Should I just go straight to using antibiotics rather than doing the home treatment?

Interesting!! Thank you for doing these videos.
No worries. Just trying to help as many as I can
Thank you for this video
What is the antibiotic injection that was used. Baytril?
The antibiotic was “Fortaz” or ceftazidime.
@@CookiesCritters thanks. My beardie was given "Fortaz", that did nothing for her. A different vet gave her "Baytril". That didn't work either ". 😕
@@leegary3941 sorry to hear about your beardie. What is wrong with her?
