    Nothing better than homemade tomato juice!

    Another tip; a lot easier to use the set up if you put the kitchen aid in a lower table of some sort. Counter height is too high for that attachment and by the time you have done 20 or so quarts your shoulders are dead.

    We had a Jack LaLanne juicer for years and wore it out. The replacement is stored in the basement since my wife bought a Ninja Bullet - no more wasted pulp! Makes great smoothies for breakfast, we add frozen organic fruit to whatever liquid we are using.
    Your 'mater juice looked delicious, though. Reminds me of the stuff I helped my mom make when I was a kid - we made our own version of V-8, with veggies from the garden. Used a cone shaped metal sieve with a wooden masher to push the cooked tomatoes through. Any pulp was used in soups or stews - we wasted very little.

      @@bustersmith5569 - Never had a Kitchen Aid appliance - way out of my price range! I liked the Jack La Lanne juicer fine, I used the pulp in cooking, great for soups and stews, and baking. But my wife wanted pulp in her juice, so when the Ninja Bullet came on the market, my juicer went into storage! Small price to pay for peace in the house.

    Run the tomatoes through raw. Saves a lot of time and does a great job. The skins and seeds come out the end with ease. Cut the tomatoes in chunks so they go down the meat grinder tube. Best thing i discovered in the past few years.

    Love watching your videos. I haven’t had a garden to can for a while but I miss it! I’d never tell anyone to can tomatoes like I did, but I canned them like my grandma and mom and all it amounted to was boiling the tomatoes good then packing them in hot jars with a tsp salt and sealing them. That was it...not added acid or pressure or water baths...they always sealed fine and kept for years and we never had any problems. Been doing it that way as long as I can remember (and grandma was born in 1897) Sometimes I wonder if tomatoes today have as much acid.

    • @Georgia_Farmer
      @Georgia_Farmer 4 роки тому

      As a side effect of genetically modifying tomatoes for larger tomatoes and yields, the acid was bred out of them.

You probably remember when you used a metal funnel shaped colander and a wooden v shaped stick and pushed round and round to push the tomatoes through. This is what highly professed food with preservatives looks like, folks. Cooking it twice is a good way to destroy as many nutrients as possible too. You only need to pasteurize the final product. No need to waste the energy.
    Alternatively, you can just eat a whole, raw tomato with all the juice and nutrients intact inside.
