Oh no Ruff isn't there, THEY'RE UNSUPERVISED!!
Ruff and Bree really are the parents, huh? 😂
Rest in peace, Ruff. We dedicate this reaction to you.

Is ruff okay?? 😕
Maui is the Polynesian god of trickery. and everything he sang in his song are things his legends say he did
Wouldn't the term Kupua be more accurate or am I misremembering things?
@@LiMe251not all polys have that word, so the English word god or demi god is better
@@turoawalker7238 Thank you for clearing that up.
It should be noted that the legends are slightly altered in some ways, most likely just to make them fit into the song
More mythological accuracy than Disney's Hercules (lol, low bar I know. They didn't even get his NAME right)
Not only does it cover real pacific islander mythology, it's based on the real world thousand year period where anthropological evidence suggests they completely stopped voyaging. They were voyagers, stopped for a full millennium, then began voyaging again with nobody knowing why.
Maybe they just needed a little breather. For.. a thousand years. You know how it is /j
@@GedanJ Me after 1 push up
The hardest part I have with that theory is that my people preserved the knowledge and tech for something they didnt even do for 1000 years, then just immediately jumped back in. I find it far more reasonable that wide spread voyaging stopped. But there was still ocean journeys from time to time.
@@heysulfuric2372 Honestly, it's unbelievable how huge the waves were and yet our ancestors managed to voyage across the sea with no fear whatsoever.
I didn’t notice the detail of the grandmother becoming weak after she gave Moana the heart. It didn’t dawn on me that it was giving her life
HeiHei is voiced by the incomparable Alan Tudyk. Every cluck is the cluck of a legend.
"I went to juliard"
He went from "leaf on the wind" to "chicken in the water".
@@kelaarin Zoë is going to do unspeakable things to you if she hears that
"William, Thats Blasphemy !"
Imagine the BALLS those people had to sail the Pacific Ocean from island to island on those sailboats.
Yeah, infact they'd use those balls for sailing! the men would hold onto the boat as they go into the water, feeling the flow of the current thanks to how much more sensetive our gonads are than the rest of our body
And the women and children did what?@@superspider64
When I watched Moana the first time, it felt like I was watching one of the Disney films from the Renaissance era(like Hercules and The Little Mermaid), with its fun and epic story, musical numbers, wonderful animation, and great characters. Still one of the finest animated films I’ve seen!
@@abluerainbow Uh, Encanto?
@neopagn2004 I think at that point Encanto is fine but a bit tired of the same plucky adorkable FMC.
You could lineup Disney's recent characters describing only their personality and not how they look or what they do, and would be difficult to tell which is which.
@@neopagn2004 nAH
@@XC11301991thr adorkable thing started with Tangled though, which was way before Moana
Fun fact: Auli'i Cravalho (the voice of Moana) was like 15 or 16 during the recording of the movie, which is crazy to think about considering how well she sang
I’m glad they casted someone the same age as the character. It feels more authentic. And I think that’s cool to do that as long as they are safe and taken care of.
She’s so talented. I didn’t like the Mean Girls remake overall but she did well in that too.
39:30 I always interpreted it as the ocean chose her first, and then respected her descision to give up being the chosen one. So her recovering the heart again after she dropped it is her choosing to be the one to restore the heart.
That I also believe though I wonder if the ocean respected her choice as it would have known she would come around after her grandma came back to comfort and guide her? I mean she was chosen and a entity that powerful wouldn’t likely make a mistake like that. It does show the respect aspect which is a great lesson to anyone watching though

@@12pagani I think you can view it that way, and that it's not necessarily wrong, but I feel as though the ocean would have respected her choice and let her go home if that is what she chose.
18:11 There's a theory that the Heart kept Grandma alive
I can't imagine how Sorta Stupid fans that are actually called Billy must feel every video
It has to be a wild experience
@YtSortaStupid_on_te-legra-m bro is NOT Sorta Stupid

@@KeikoIsDestined It is stupid but people DO somehow fall for it... if nobody fell for it then they would stop doing it
I wanna say I remember when Moana came out it got so much praise bc it was one of the first Disney movies where the animation just looked so clear and lifelike. I can’t believe the 10 year anniversary is almost here. 😭
It came out almost 10 years ago? Damn.....
22:58 Theres many different stories of Maui from each island, in New Zealand we believed that he pulled an island(top part of New Zealand) out of the sea and the bottom part was his boat. And another story how he slowed down the sun because it kept going past fast. Im not really sure if these stories are similar to other islands but we all see him as a Demi God‼️
I thought he was a kupua, or is that just the term for Hawaii?
@@LiMe251 I have heard Maui is one of the Kupua, but I think thats only in Hawaii im not really sure😭 I’m still learning about my own history and others
@@NOTrinzu Okay.
@@LiMe251 kupua as a term can have a lot of meanings, one of those being demigod
@@supercharged5-39 Fair enough.
Part of the Maui legends is that 90% of his successes would have been failures if not for the last minute assistance from his two big brothers, so my fan-theory is that Heihei and the Ocean are actually Demigod shapeshifters as well, helping Maui on his quest.
For how they animated the water it's absolutely insane. Cause they treated it like particles. Every individual detail was practically microscopic.
Love how boom is just straight jamming in this reaction
Moana is likely a Demi-human, likely a descendant of Maui, how else would she survive being in the underworld where mortals aren't supposed to survive the atmosphere let alone the monsters. Her mood influenced the Heart as it was flickering and dimming as she was questioning herself before her grandmothers spirit returned. Likely each chief was a descendant but enough dormant traits awakened allowing communication with the Water Spirit.

I'd believe I was drugged

the Polynesian Mythos in this movie is way more accurate than that dumpster fire Hercules was. (yes I'm salty they fucked up Greek Myth so badly. Hades deserved better!) Ofc you cant have the Mythos be 100% but Moana does it right.
But he was hilarious
Hercules is still a good movie though. I don't think it was trying to even be accurate.
Ruff jumped through a bus now he’s going to antartica
Btw, the dad is voiced by Temuera Morrison, as you may recognize as Jango Fett, Boba Fett, and Aquaman's dad.
I love Hei-Hei because he's crazy and voiced by the ever talented Alan Tudyk.
I love watching Boom just be so over enthusiastic with this movie XD, i fucking love y'all
I saw the thumbnail and title and first thing that popped up in my head was the "You're Welcome" song 😂
Donatello just laying there like 🫠 as y’all are talking about Ruff being mia was too funny for no reason 😂
I swear these guys are really tempting me with Patreon their videos are to good
Bro I agree
Oh they are
right! i like how they're always invested in what they're watching and all the discussions, jokes, the chemistry in general :)
Moana became my favorite Disney Princess really quickly, and she my introduction to Auli'i Cravalho's performance. Praying to God the sequel does not disappoint...
The blou simbel on booms shirt keep looking like he has an awesome earrings
Damn. I think he could pull off big, statement jewelry.
You're Welcome Billy!
Insane that they had a whole song in Tokelauan which only has about 4000 speakers in the world
Fun fact: Chief Tui (Moana's dad) is voiced by Temuera Morrison, aka Jango Fett (and later Boba Fett).
Disney took inspiration from multiple different versions of Maui across Polynesian. For example, killing the eel that supported the coconuts is from the Hawaiian legend. Meanwhile, the pulling up islands parts is, I believe, from the Samoan or Fijian legend.
YOU'RE WELCOME! 💜
For the tides and the wind and the sky
@@Sci_pher”I killed an Eel and buried its guts, sprouted a tree and got coconuts!

And Thank You!
I swear ir like the top comment on every vid lol
30:22 ah yes the “there’s always a bigger fish” trope lol
35:17: "That's a big eagle" There used to be a massive eagle here in NZ that preyed on moa (a giant, extinct, flightless bird), it was one of the largest raptors to ever have existed, with a wingspan of around 2 or 3 meters. Check out the Haast's Eagle (and the moa) for some excellent extinct wildlife lore :)
Maui is, I assume, taking the form of one of those here. It still existed when the first humans arrived in Aotearoa, but the loss of its main prey (the moa, which were hunted to extinction as a rich and abundant food source, providing meat, feathers, skin, and eggs, with no real defence aside from their size against the new human threat. They were a walking buffet until they... weren't) and destruction of large areas of habitat, led to it's extinction by the mid 1400s. It was one of the few birds to ever be an apex predator, larger than the largest raptors alive now, and it must have been chilling to feel its shadow pass overhead, even though they couldn't have lifted an adult. (Unasked-for natural history dump)
I love this movie for so many reasons But mostly it's just beautiful, and the moment when people realise where the spiral is, where the heart was taken from, gets me every time, because of course, without the heart, there's only rage and fire, but until then it's never obvious, it catches everyone (and caught me the first time) off guard, and I just love seeing that moment of understanding.
Great reaction!
Super sad and unfortunate fact the song that is played at the beginning of the movie while Toddler Moana is interacting with the Ocean that song has a very tragic true story behind and if you Google the song's name which is An Innocent Warrior you can find the story oh yeah and here's some fun Moana fun facts the scene where Toddler Moana is protecting the Baby sea Turtle from the Birds with the giant leaf that's a Lilo And Stitch reference and that same Baby Turtle and the adult one that Moana seen were both references to Finding Nemo and Finding Dory
I really am loving Sean vibing and taking part in singing and the movie. 😄 💚
No grandma wasn't on the ship. It's been a thousand years since Mowi took the heart and stopped all traveling
Interesting reason that HeiHei eats rocks is because real chickens do that. They swallow small stones and pebbles to work as a grinder to digest their food. HeiHei is just the throat GOAT and goes for the big rocks.
38:50 GOD that "I AM MOANAAAAAA" is SO triumphant it makes me tear up every. time. 😭
WHERE DID BOOM GET THAT SHIRT FROM!!! I NEED ITTTTTTT OMGGGGGGTGGG
I love how Sean just starts singing along to every song.
Fun fact: Due to branding issues, Moana was changed to Viana overseas in Europe
Moana is basically a Disney-fied version of a story from Polynesian mythology.
Watching this reaction kinda makes me want to see them do Surfs Up.
Only because of the Chicken
In “we know the way” it shows the first time they went to the island, but earlier we saw like ten stones representing ten chiefs which is like 10 lifetimes, the woman in the song was most certainly NOT grandma 💀
Seeing how much you guys liked this, I kinda wanna see you watch "Wish" now. That and seeing Boom lip syncing to himself makes me want to see them do some karaoke. XD
theres a YTP of this movie andone of the jokes IS that she just gets dunked by the wave and dies. its so sudden and perfectly done

Boom's DenDen Mushi Shirt is awseome!
I’m Hawaiian. That’s it.
There is a real island called Tahiti!!! It’s in French Polynesia 🇵🇫
4:40 I have a family friend who's one of the team who worked on the animation effects for the water in this movie! She's super cool
The chicken is no thoughts just vibes 😂
Moana is the best "strong independent women" Disney has every written, AND IT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE.
I absolutly love Moana, it's one of my favorite Disney movies of all time.
The great thing about the scene where Moana is alone on the sea and grandma comes to her. Grandma never says "but you are the chossen one" or "you have to go, if you like it or not".
She says "It's not your fault. I never should put so much on your shoulders, if you are ready to go home, I will be with you" and that is so beautiful!
The ocean is undefeated. But heihei gave it a proper challenge. Lol.
35:25 - My favorite part of this Movie. Even the Ocean was tired of Hei Hei! (lol)
🤣🤣🤣
I wish the cast was larger beyond just Moana and Maui (BH6 has my favorite Dusney ensemble), but aside from that, it's an amazing film.
Just a couple of things to say. Boom, that combover looks pretty good on you. 👌
This movie was going head to head with Zootopia by being released in that exact same year and as you can imagine, it was the winner of the Oscars while Moana was a nominee. Still, it’s a true honor to have your name being immortalized in a once-in-a-lifetime experience in entertainment history.
Everything from this is astounding. The fact that they took the Pixar route by making this film accurate as possible to the Polynesian culture down to the minute detail is extraordinary. Even the hair as Eric mentioned was created to be soft, smooth and silky because to the Pacific Islander people, it represents their spiritual connection to the land and the sea with their hair flowing like the wind itself. It also fascinating that yes, Dwayne Johnson has come a long way from being a WWE champion to being one the most celebrated actors in Hollywood. Since he’s Samoan, it was pretty fitting that he was cast in this project. The soundtrack that Boom mentioned is very good and uplifting, especially in that sequence where Maui was relearning his abilities from his hook and, with the songs written by Lin Manuel-Miranda, it made all the difference.
On a side note, about turning into a bird would be exhilarating. So much so that if I could choose which form to take, it would be an osprey since it is a pescatarian that fishes all bodies of water, fresh and salt. I also would like to be a barn owl because that owl in particular has always captivated me, primarily for their glamorous appearance. I’d be happy either way. Watching those scenes with Moana’s grandmother reminds me of the time when I also lost mine; due to cerebral stroke. Hard to believe that today marks 3 1/2 years since that happened. No matter where I am in the world, she’s never far away because I have my heart and soul to carry the memories of her every day. I’ll see her again, in the next life. I believe that. 🥲
Watched this movie so many times it's not even funny. I can't hear someone say thank you or you're welcome without that song popping into my head. Te Fiti in both forms looks great and the ocean and the chicken were very entertaining. My heart broke when her grandma died
Did you notice that she started falling apart the second she gave the Heart to Moana? It was giving her life
So who else actually expected to hear schaffrillas's voice when Tamatoa started talking?
RIP Ruff, I hope the impact with the diesel wasn't too painful 😔
Never thought I'd see a movie with both The Rock and Jango Fett in it, but here we are.
Its definitely my favorite disney film of the modern era.
There is a heavily implied theory that the heart was actually keeping the Grandma alive so when she sat down after giving it to Moana she knew she was about to die.
Not only was that the reindeer from Frozen, but earlier in the movie when she's loading the boat, you see a carrot and two sticks... and maybe two stones, I would have double check that bit.
🎵You're welcome~🎵
The chief is voiced by Temuera Morrison, who played a _small_ role in Star Wars as...
Jango Fett, all the clone troopers, and the re-dubbed voice of Boba Fett in the OT.
Lin-Manuel Miranda: (sings)
The boys: Is that Grandma?

I think they meant the girl on the boat in the flashback. And then they realized it was too old for that

I see this before and is very funny 😂
Disney were cool enough to do a dub of this movie (and some other movies like Frozen and The Lion King) in Te Reo Māori, the native language of Aotearoa/New Zealand. Those versions of the songs are so beautiful even if you don't understand them.
I think there’s a Tahitian dub, too.
The word "tattoo" comes from the tap-tap-tap rhythm of those tools while they pierce skin.

This is gonna be awesome, Moana is my favourite movie from Disney 🌊☀️
Maui is a big figure in Polynesian myth he’s basically what if you mix Loki and Heracles into one character, can be referred to as the trickster, the fishermen and the Demi god(even tho technically he’s the child of two gods in some versions). I went into this movie knowing the actual myths and props on them finding a way to PG-fy them cause no way you can do story 1-1 in a pg setting. “Lassoed the sun” that’s only half the truth, In the myth the sun ran so fast across the sky that barely any day work could be done so Maui had the casual idea of ‘what if we wait for the sun to wake up…AND THEN WE JUMP HIM AND CRIPPLE HIS ASS SO HE HAS TO MOVE SLOW!’💀
you all should watch Namona its another great movie with a funny shark scene
