In this lesson we'll look at the major soloing "themes" that Stevie Ray Vaughan used when he played the song Texas Flood. While each performance was unique, there were some things that stayed consistent. These themes are a big part of how he was able to stretch out the song without making it sound repetitive.

I'm too young to have seen Hendrix but I have seen many great guitarists in my 52 yrs but I've never seen a guitarist like SRV! Texas Alley is by far the best UA-cam channel for learning the licks, style and feel of SRV. Great to hear about giving back to help the proud people of Texas from hurricane Harvey!👍

So are we not gonna talk about how this man has the secret to Stevie's tone?

He uses a lot: Blues Junior... Love Pedal Super Six... Tumnus, or TS808 or 9.

I started this video having the gist of thematic soloing, but you went much more in depth than I thought you would do. Another great video! This was one of my favorites! One educator to another, your teaching style and level of breaking it down to digestible technique and speed is top notch.

That's a real cool thing you're doing for Texas. Also, this was probably one of my favorite lessons yet. Your explanations keep helping me connect the dots.

Anthony Stauffer loves the blues he teaches with the depth and knowledge that only somebody who loves a style can bring forth. I have had many guitar teachers that love Jazz or rock or country. Getting their help to learn blues song never seemed to get the vibe thru, sure they can listen and transcribe the notes but the not feel, nor the same reverence for the blues. I could get a carpenter to teach me plumbing they both know the trade right but each has their own area of expertise. I wish I had a local teacher I could go to, but I am thankful for your channel I love to watch your well thought out explanations of where Stevie got his inspiration from.

Anthony, greta lesson. i like this type of lesson very much. it is much more helpful to make progress to understanding concepts that you can apply in different scenarios rather than learning songs not for note. i would certainly appreciate more of such lessons. thanks a lot and greetings from germany.

Good job Anthony! This is the kind of thing that keeps me coming back to try to get more colour into my playing. It's these nuances that really bring a performance to life. As you say, these are the things that set apart really great guitar from by the numbers pastiche.
I'd really appreciate something like this on SRVs approach to rhythm in Voodoo Chile. His version has a shift in time signature mid way through that is almost funk - something Hendrix did not do, but which I really like about SRVs style. For me, it's those shifts in rhythm that elevate his version to rival Hendrix.
If you already have something on that, free or paid, do please point me in the right direction on your website...!

Anthony, yea. Good even paced lesson. Lots of time to absorb what you are saying. Went through it first time with no guitar in sight. Second time with lots of play/pause and it sunk in. Nice. I commented a few years ago how you changed my playing. I am at a way higher level now than I've ever been. 30 years squeaking away on my Strat. The last three have seen me become twice as good. Not bad for an old boy!
    Thanks.

Though I'm glad to give to hurricane relief .....I wish I knew the lesson was download only lol I use my iPad and cast to my flat screen usually. My laptop is hardly ever used and is from 2011-2012 ish so idk if I can even get it to work with these lessons.... which I'm a SRV fanatic btw.

You can definitely use it with an iPad, you just need a program that can download and unzip files. There's plenty of these on the App store, iFiles 2 is one of the best IMO, but there are others.
