- Migrant labour pass their tin canisters and baggage into a bus through the window, in Shillong circa 1991. A Kit Kat advertisement dominates the old bus stand near the office of the Managing Director of the Meghalaya Transport Corporation.
A kali-peeli black and yellow Hindustan Ambassador stands by on duty to pick up passengers and an Indian Army truck passes by. Maruti 800 cars dominate as do Tata buses.
People crowd around a Shillong to Guwahati bus ticket counter where the man on duty operates an old black and white CRT computer monitor.

My mother worked in MTC for many years as a registrar. This brings back so many memories of her. Miss you Mei.
I do remember I use to take bus from this bus station while going to Guwahati Ticket cost Rs 30 from Shillong to Guwahati. as I was a kid I didn't need a ticket and had to share seat with my dad. At Nogpoh bus use to halt for 15 mins for refreshments. It was a total journey of around 5 hours from Shillong to Guwahati.

I wish i could see more vintage videos.. Recently i met an old couple from south Indian they use to stay in shillong in those era they told me about the beauty of shillong n how peacefulness it is with less population at that time...

This video reminds me of my childhood days spent in Shillong in 90s...From here we used to take buses to Karimganj, Assam... Beautiful days.. Counter is still there but stand is now all covered with mud as now buses stay in ISBT

My golden old days
This video reminds me of my childhood when the bus fare for MTC from Shillong to Guwahati was mere 25 bucks and it used to take us 3 and half hours to reach Guwahati and vice versa..Thank you for the lovely video

Even now bus takes around 4 hours with broad roads and new buses. I do remember it used to take atleast 5 hours from Shillong to Guwahati one way. Now Cabs takes around 3 to 3 and half hours, Now that also cab.

We start living Shillong back in 2002, at that time it was Golden days in shillong, ❤ now it is crowded.

No such computers are very old.Because during 1996 such computers were used in Office Establishments every where in India

MTC bus station.. we use to take bus for guwahati from this place.. this bus use to be the deluxe bus 👍👍👍
