- In a previous video I argued that the iPad Pro doesn’t need MacOS. However after the recent WWDC from @Apple and its lacklustre approach to updating iPadOS, I’m beginning to have my doubts! Watch this video to found out why I have a little bit of a growing problem.

A lot of reviewers are comparing the iPad to the MacBook. That completely misses the point. The primary difference between a MacBook and an iPad is the pencil. If you don't use a pencil to do markups, art or handwriting, you flat out don't need an iPad. If you don't want to move around elements in a video edit using your finger, you don't need one either. But if you use the touch screen, there is nothing better than an iPad Pro. The new Pencil Pro is a huge leap forward. I use Photoshop to do image editing and I work three times faster on the iPad than I do using a Mac and trackpad. A MacBook is an all in one computer. It does everything reasonably good. The iPad Pro does a small group of things better than any other alternative. It isn't a replacement for a MacBook. It's its own thing. Reviewers don't seem to understand what that is.
Thanks for your thoughtful reply!
@@mark_kelly By the way, I’m a professional who uses the iPad in my work every day. I use my MacBook about two times a week. So there is an audience for this device.
Cool part two
Hey thanks man!
Photos doesn't need to do more than it does: organise his photos. It can use third-party applications to edit like Photomator or MaxCurve.
Yep, on reflection, you’re probably correct. But the rest I’m sticking with!
We hear from a lot of professionals who cannot use the iPad Pro for their workflow, especially photographers. I would love to hear from more professionals in professions who actually use the iPad for work. I’ve watched a few, they want different apps, pencil functionality and equipment to play nicely with.
I do use it for my professional work - video editing and writing etc. I would have thought photography would be perfect for the iPad - colour accurate screen and some great photo editing apps.
spot on!
Thanks!
One of the best TNG episodes ever! David Warner vs. Patrick Stewart.
It’s simply brilliant! As Trekkies we really were spoilt with Patrick weren’t we?
Apple should load MacOS in iPad pro and discontinue MacBook Air.
Interesting view!
Fantastic video. As a professional programmer, I 💯% agree.
Apple continues to inexplicably hamstring the iPad Pro and it is very frustrating.
I wanted to spend the money to acquire an M4, but Apple gave me zero reason to do so. Apple is fumbling the ball with this amazing hardware. How long until their competitors start to offer what they won’t?
Snapdragon X Elite is coming and it runs a real OS…. 👀
Thank you! Needless to say, I’m feeling a tad disappointed still.
The only time ipadOS wins for me is when I can actually use it in my dev workflow. Until then its a fun roller coaster ride for 3000$
Nothin' but RAILS
Too bad yesterday i round à forum which is about programing on iPad, they seem very happy.
Something I have heard a lot.
This is very interesting to read as I’ve only heard negative stuff regarding the iPad from developers.
@@mark_kelly the iPad is not a computer as they say. But I think that Apple have certainy an idea for the future.
@@joselucnico it's almost always using the iPad as an emulator (eg using aws cloud 9 in a browser or half baked shell app)
On device access to an iPad with a terminal is intentionally blocked from us, that's what Apple does intentionally.
You nailed it! Furthermore...I think that, given the current situation, Apple should REMOVE the word ‘Pro’ from the entire iPad lineup! iPadOS is definitely not a ‘pro’ operating system. When, and if, iPadOS gives us a REAL file system, REAL multitasking, REAL support for pointing devices (trackpad, mouse), REAL management of external peripherals, and REAL support for external monitors, then and only then can Apple put the ‘Pro’ label back on its iPads!
I am a HUGE iPad fan but my disappointment is more palpable than previous years. So I’m inclined to agree with you. These are simple things that could be sorted but Apple is plainly holding it back - after all it’s only a “companion” device (very annoying!).
