Hi there! I am currently an AS student and am aspiring to become a Marine Biologist. Before getting admitted into uni I wanted to learn more about the field and take up extracurricular activities related to marine bio. Now, the problem is there are no aquariums or zoos nearby where I live where I could look for volunteering opportunities. Currently, I am just doing a Coursera Course on Large Marine Ecosystems. What kind of further ONLINE activities can I part take in and what other resources are available which will help me out in the long run? (other topics I am particularly interested in - ocean conservation and plastic pollution)

Start looking at colleges (typically Master's or PhD programs) with Marine Biology. Typically you'll find the research faculty at that school and they will list out their research interests; find one that focuses on sharks or something that requires sharks and mark that down.
If you are really interested in their research, look at some of their published papers and then email them about it, they are usually very happy to speak about their research.

I also want to be a Marine Biologist specialized in sharks. I've been in love with them since I was 3 and have studied them for over a decade. First off, it can be difficult to actually *become* a marine biologist. You need to have certain skills and have a mad passion for it and you have to be 10000% committed. A few skills you will need:
-excellent at statistics, numericals, observation, teamwork, accuracy, methodical in field and laboratory work, patience, analytic, problem-solving, and many more. if you have these skills and are truly passionate about this job, then start studying. Alot. And hey if you get in the field, let me know!! Love to see another shark lover.

I’m not really interested in Marine Biology but I do have an interest in conservation. I’m going to try scuba diving next month and if I like it, I plan on learning it and using it for a career. I have a Bachelors in communication, so idk if I can get a career in conservation without having to go back to school. I really don’t want to take out student loans.

I really want to be involved in sharks. Is there anything I should target to be able to do that? I’m planning to join the U.S. Marines for 4 or 6 years. Then I want to join the U.S. Coast Guard where I can be more involved with the water. Of course I’ll be going through college courses during this. Then I want to become a Underwater Filmmaker or just in general a marine biologist specialized in sharks. I’m kind of lost and I don’t have much more time to figure things out. Please reply to this, I need some help.

If it's like the process to become a jumpmaster for skydiving, you keep the dives in a logbook that keep track of time, date, and location of the dives. It's more or less an honorary system.

It’s not, but this list is about jobs that relate to the field of marine biology! Captains study the ocean and need to understand how it works in order to do their job well. It takes a lot of principles of marine biology in order to do this job, so I thought it was worth mentioning!

The problem is that these jobs don’t pay high enough salary. In fact, most younger marine biologists make near or just above the poverty income bracket. Go to school for 8-12 years just to earn $35-$90K? No thanks.
