After attending the 2020 Ecological Society of America Conference back in August, I learned a lot about all kinds of careers in biology and ecology. From the government to academia, I was shocked to find out the wide range of things you can do that still involve ecology and environmental science.
In this video I break down all that I learned from conversations with professionals and notes from the many career-related sessions I attended. I go over environmental science careers, biology careers, and ecology careers, in each sector of jobs: the government, academia, nonprofits, and industry. I talk about environmental science careers and salaries, and what you might expect from each type of job.

Would it be worth it to get a certificate from an at home school. I need to pay the Bill's, but prefer a simple life that allows me to focus on my Biblical obligations. I'm trying to decide on computer programming or ecology. Any thoughts?
Very helpful. I just started my major in biology/ecology at my university but have had a very difficult time finding much information on career options. I know I want a career in this field just not sure what career fits my desires most. Still uncertain, but this video really did help me get an idea of my options and what to look into. Okay I know I'm two years late but this video was amazingly helpful; As someone who is preparing to go to college with an interest in ecology and evolution, this video consolidated all the contradicting information on the internet.

Do you think a “field ecology” degree has as many option for a government jobs as a general ecology degree?
Hey I need your help I’m going to school for ecology and evolutionary biology and I want to travel and study animals but I don’t know what specific jobs I want between ecologist, wildlife biologist, and evolutionary biologist. Can you make a video or go in depth about those careers, Also I don’t want to work in academia I want the government and the non profit jobs.

im only 14 but im already kinda panicing because i really havent a clue how to get where i want to be. i really want to be in the outdoors and i want to travel as a main part of it. i definatly want to be an ecologist and work with animals so i looked up things about zoology. even though i really like that idea, i dont want my main focus on just animals. i want to look at the nature and go places like the amazon reinforest and stuff. i dont know if thats asking to much or being unrealsitic but i really just want to explore the world as well as help it and find solutions to eco realated modern problems. i dont know where to start

Is common to see Chemist working in ecology?? What do you think about it?? Are they so demanded in ecology?
Positions definitely exist, and in academia/research, having research skills in chemistry can provide a huge leg up, since that knowledge and those skills are so complex and important. Additionally, consulting companies often need to have a good understanding of the chemical aspects of environments in order to provide accurate reports to their clients!

@Omorfiá actually, ecology is not only about living creatures, biology is. Ecology studies the interaction between organisms and their enviroment. Answering the 1st comment, i don't reach that year yet but in my university we also study climatology, but not really about the natural disasters. Disasters only when is consecuence by human activity. Global warming, for example.
You would probably learn about some effects of disasters in ecology, but something like meteorology would be actually studying the weather itself. Hope that helps :)

I'm not entirely certain, but I know it can be done! I think your first step is to begin contacting professors you may be interested in working with in the next few years, and to see how the process works with their specific university/research institution.
