Yessss Sims 4 is way too safe! As any writer knows, all stories require high stakes to be interesting. This game has very few options for creating tension in stories, which is why most machinima or storyboards are centered around pregnancy and cheating story arcs; and in order to tell unique stories, players have to rely heavily on mods and pre-planned scripts. I think the main thing people miss about Sims 2 was the spontaneity and how easy it was to create sims or households with conflicting wants and fears, which is fundamental to good storytelling. That's why Sims 4 is mostly just a build sim.
You're absolutely right! I totally miss the spontaneity of the Sims 2 and how much more interesting storytelling could be. Despite its age, and graphics, Sims 2 just felt larger in scope then what we have nowadays.
I guess I'm boring. I never want my Sims to die, let alone deliberately kill them. I also don't remember all the drama everyone talks about with Sims 2. That was a long time ago and I did get tired of playing Sims 2 and stopped playing Sims altogether in early 2000's.
As for my gameplay style, I like downloading abandoned/trashed lots from the gallery and then having my sim move in and start cleaning it up and renovating it. I stack a bunch of lot challenges to make it more interesting, and once the home is no longer hazardous I'll have my sim start a family. I decorate mainly with items that were already in the home when I moved in or that I crafted or bought at the flea market. Building is so much more fun for me when my design choices are dictated by the needs and interests of the residents, and it gives me a reason to experiment with worlds and gameplay aspects rather than just doing one build after the other.
The Sims 4 is a collection of half-assed ideas pushed out before they were fully fleshed out. We could have a pretty amazing game, if any effort was put into making them connect in any meaningful way. I get that not everyone buys all the packs, but for those who do it would be nice to see cohesive features. I really do not understand a lot of the choices made. As I've said in another comment, the Sims 4 is what I like to call a hollow chocolate bunny. It lacks substance but we're expected to be grateful because "at least we got chocolate". Some of the best stuff has come out of involving the community. It feels like the people who work on the game, don't play it much. As a long time simmer, I have ZERO interest in 5 or "Renesmee" or whatever the hell they're calling it. The game got off to a very shakey start, I held off the first few years of buying it because of all the stuff it DIDN'T launch with, I thought ok, let them cook. Ive been hyped for releases but then get inside and its a letdown. Sims 4 is that ex we give too many chances to.
My sim in Sims3 is a serial killer that goes to university to find his victims.🔪 He collects the tombstones of his room mates and adds them to his cemetery at home.
@jabarimangum7376 There are 2 mods I have installed for violent chaos or murdery story telling chaos: - Disasters & Blessings mod from MTS (Starvation will kill instantly) - Violence & Agression mod from MTS For THIS story I just move the fridge, stove & counter into my sims dorm room & lock the door so only he can get in.😈 Then it becomes survival of the fittest. Play with already made sims, I decided to play with the pancakes and made them have a kid, her name is Abigail and She’s now a teen, I made her & the goth family’s son, Alexander (aged him up to a teen) date, i plan on marrying them when their older.. & I got juicy stuff going on with bob pancakes 😂 he cheated on Eliza and made a sim, who’s already married, and has a kid (I did create that household only because I originally wanted a bestie for Eliza and bob, BUT.. I wanted to add drama in it so bob got her pregnant.)
the sims 1 (and partially sims 2) being a commentary/satire on consumerism and capitalism and the sims 4 being the embodiment of those things is very much a "you die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain" moment
I play Sims 2. Had a rich family of four - elder parents and two daughters, Barcelona (teen) and Amelia (adult). Amelia was in a University when her sister was born, so sisters barely even know eachother. Amelia moved out to start a family of her own, Barcelona got a good job and became A+ student, their mother just got her lifetime award and became eternally happy. Aaand her husband dies of old age. Just on the next day. Everybody' sad. To cheer them all up, mother buys a vacation house - a cabin in the woods. She invites both Amelia and Barcelona. They get there, renovate the house a bit, do some vacation activities, invite their neighbors for dinner. While the mother was cooking, Barcelona lit a fireplace. Instantly their couch gets on fire. Then their carpet, their table and so on. The mother rushes to the scene, gets trapped with Barcelona in the fire fence. She starts burning and dies... pretty much instantly. After a ton of tries to call the firefighters, the fire went down, because there was nothing else to burn. They didn't have an alarm. Amelia, who was chilling in the bath at the time, got upset and just left. Barcelona, all covered in ashes and burns, cried, got her stuff and left. For almost whole teen lifestage she lived alone in their big rich house. She didn't have much friends, didn't have any relatives other than her sister. And, considering their relationship and their characters, it was insanely hard for them to get along. Sometimes Barcelona phoned Amelia, invited her over, but in the end they didn't become close at all, and Barcelona stopped trying. Barcelona now is an adult with a husband and a newborn son, living in a mansion in Strangetown. Amelia and her husband just sent their two daughters off to college. The cabin is still untouched. There are ashes all over the floors, some badly burnt furniture is filling the room, and in the center of it there is the urn. The cabin now is haunted. While the father's grave is placed in family's Cemetery, his wife's grave is waiting for someone to get it back home. And all of that stuff I just listed was ACCIDENTAL.
I *love* the Sims 2 promo 😂 while arguably misleading about actual animations and gameplay, it’s irreverent, fun and encapsulates the point of the game as a life sim. Still in my top 3 of game promos ❤
Also I love scenarios, but I wish there were more of them either in the game or on Curseforge. They're a wonderful storytelling tool, but pretty inflexible when it comes to pets. With all the DLC available, I would like to see more scenarios specific to the packs that came with new gameplay features. A scenario centered around pets, one centered around vampires, one centered around spellcasters, and so on.
Smarter Sims my.....keester. smh When Sims 4 gets boring I play another game. I've gone back to Sims 3 a lot lately. As well as other games. I can't wait for new life simulation genre games to start being released. The Sims needs competition!! One can only hope that is what finally wakes them up to pay attention to what their players want and have been asking for. But I'm not holding my breath, this is EA we're talking about. I assure you I am someone who loves the Sims. The Sims and I have a complicated relationship.
This video reminded me of how last year, I left my Sim alone for like five minutes to prep for bed and he died from a fire. What made it worse was that he was his mother’s only son. 💀 Great video. Hope you get well soon!
I either created sims or built houses in the sims 4 because playing it was so boring. Also the packs are so expensive even on sale, I switched to sims 3 and I love playing with them. I love the way the personalities ACTUALLY make them that way.
the sims 4 traits work in a certain way. the first tab is which emotion you want a boost to, the second one is a hobby tab I believe, the third one is a lifestyle tab for how the sim reacts to it's surroundings and the last tab is social for how the sim interacts with other sims. The first tab should be overhauled completely alongside the emotions system. The second tab should be removed. The third tab should be in a folder like the likes and dislikes are. The forth tab needs more interactions and reactions.
The sims 4 is huge set back from even the sims 1. Yes the graphics are amazing but it has taken a huge plunge from gameplay! When I tell you my mods folder and folders and then subfolders it’s ridiculous. My game takes 3-5 minutes to load however mods make this game.
oh and that sims 2 trailer wasn't misleading! Not intentionally, at least :) The models and animations are from the beta versions of the game! I think they had an issue on the studio and lost a whole bunch of work? And a bunch of progress got lost. Including the things that fit that trailer's aesthetics!
Boy it sure is fun going to the bathroom and showering 150 times in one play session. Not to mention having to repair stuff constantly that breaks after a day or 2. Wow so much fun!
Not to mention turning the radio off 100 fucking times, you character getting food, then feeling the need to sit at the table before doing anything else even if they plan to get up immediately.
Or the fact that your sims barely ever listen to you. Like I thought this game was supposed to be boring af because it's optimized. But the game is absolute shit.
Wants & Fears suck in Sims 4. Fears are just random. And wants are too simple. Like if my sim wanted a guitar in Sims 2 it might be something to save up for and if my Sim wanted to meet someone new, I needed to find time to get them out the house. Sims 4 wants are like “listen to pop music” and “listen to romance music” and they pop up at the same time!!! I will say base game aspirations are more long term feeling. But overall I agree with you, aspirations feel less like ‘aspirations’ and more like a ‘how to play with this pack’ hit list. They need a better/different name then ‘aspirations’ for aspirations. I do not hate Sims 4 and I am not bored but frustrated in the places where I think they dropped the ball.
When i downloaded sims 4 on december 17th 2023 i had a blast because the only sims game i could play when i was younger was sims freeplay but now i play sims 2 everyday and when i think of december me thinking sims 4 was the funnest thing ever i think of a baby discovering new things and i now know sims 2 rules all
i haven’t stopped playing sims 3 since i was 10 and i’m almost 24… yes i’ve tried other games including sims 4 but i haven’t found anything that’s been so addicting and captivating. ik a lot of ppl think it’s ugly but i love this game so much. sims 4 is too childish, safe, boring, and just overall is bland and giving nothing
Alot of these issues could honestly be fixed/overlooked if sims 4 had an open world (im well aware its not possible on the current engine) a good chunk of previous games spontaneity and fun was in the ability to just gave your sims scattered all around the world doing tasks and and actions that you could switch between very quickly.
When I play TS4, I always have a picker wheel tab open on my desktop and a set of dice on my desk (and I'm also considering buying a journal, too.) I also use chat gpt, sometimes... I just describe the sims' personality and ask the AI suggestions for a scenario to play.
When I was 9 years old, I enjoyed playing the sims 4 because I’ve seen UA-camrs playing it. So I would play it every day. Now I’m 16, and I haven’t even touched the game for years.
When I was getting bored with Sims 4, I just created some sims and imagined their stories to be. But after I binged on it, they didn't do what their pesonality would do, like my sims had his wife died but he was like being sad for hours and he became focused or playful for some hours and then go back to being sad again. And it's only for 2 days and after that sad moodlet gone, he acted like nothing ever happens, as if he doesn't have a wife to begins with. And when I was trying to play the strangerville town's story, it's not that fun for me. It's gameplay is all just about talking with some locals and find pieces of evidence and stuffs like- that feels so boring and I was like "ok, is that all? where is the thrill?" so I'm going to back to playing my sims 2 and see how it goes haha. It's kinda such a shame that I used to love playing Sims 4 for years back then, but now I get it when people said that "The Sims 4 is lack of personality" "It's not a life simulator but it's a dollhouse simulator" "The Sims 4 is boring" "The sims 4 could never" and stuffs like that. At first, I was like "okay...?" but after playing Sims 4 again (after not playing it for 2 years) now I trully understand what they meant by playing "dolls simulator" instead of an actual "life simulator". Bcs it's so exhausting to fully control your sims, I know that we're supposed to control it but not every seconds?? If I left it for minutes, they will do useless and stupid things to do. They don't even do what their traits supposed to do, like the gloomy kid is being playful and tell jokes to his relatives? bro, what's the point of having a "traits" then? Damn, this is such a long essay, I couldn't even wrote this long essay spontaneously for my exam lol
Sims Freeplay is technically Project Olympus. How ironic is that? And how about the Sims3 Store evolving into in app purchases in the mobile games? Still expensive, but quite normal nowadays. Regarding Sims4 origins: The fact that NO ONE ASKED for an online multiplayer game was a red flag from EA, then Sims4 being released after only ONE YEAR in development was the second. It was clear that EA didn't care what players wanted. Sims3 Store locked items behind a pay wall, but these did not impact your game play if you didn't have them. Also, they still produced good quality packs (love the future pack). Bon Voyage required a second purchased due to an install error claiming I was using a backup disc (I was not AND WHY IS THERE A BACKUP DISC IF YOU CAN'T USE IT EA?!!!) My apologies for the rant. I play Sims 1,2,3 & Medieval only now. I just boot up Sims4 every update to watch Brynn The Tester Sim endure the new mass of bugs and glitches and laugh. I wasted that money years ago on Sims4, so I may as well get a good laugh out of it🤷♀️
I've never been able to understand why EA is so keen on multiplayer game, I don't want Sims to turn into a virtual chat room. And there's already an abundance of games that can do that, wayyyy better than the Sims would. I've played a lot of sandbox games where you can build a home together and fight off enemies with other players, we had the joy of cooperation in fighting and development. But I can't see where the fun is in turning Sims into a world like this. Marrying another guy in the virtual world ? Sounds terrifying. EA's obsession with multiplayer development is phenomenal, I'll probably only ever be able to play Sims5 in the future with my house designer
@@Zita2046 They've probably found a way to make cash by going multiplayer or will offer you gifts for "inviting a friend" like Facebook games used to. I agree, I can't see it benefiting our gameplay in any way.
The Sims 4 needs to bring back the Teen/Adult edge the Sims used to be known for, also screw what other people say. I don't care that it's 2024, that just proves people are pussies now compared to when the Sims 2-3 was made. Back when we KNEW the Sims was aimed at teens but kids would still play it too
At this point, I'm just waiting for the next sims game. I know there are other lifesims upcoming but Sims is just my fav franchise and it hurts to see it go down.(I'm not buying any packs for 4)
I honestly think that even having custom scenarios in the gallery would be a good addition; people can make up their own storyline with their characters
I word sims 4 as dumb friendly instead of kid friendly, cuz I feel stupidly annoyed everytime I see why this certain thing isn't this way instead of that way. If that makes sense
I can't think of anything that can be done to make it less boring. Basically I play it for a couple days, realize it's still boring, then go find other games to play. I will say the neighborhood stories has helped a bit, with NPC Sims having life events, and sometimes asking you for input. That helps it feel more alive. But after a while, the gameplay itself still starts to feel dull and stale.
I just restarted sims 4 I noticed Sims with conflicting traits well still get along great , no issues I think the game can get blend , the only pack I enjoyed the most is werewolves , but other then that the game is to dull and still waiting for the fairy’s dlc and the console version deos need mods
I bought Parenthood and Growing Together at the same time. I don't know if EA made children (all stages) annoying on purpose because players complained about the toddlers so much, or what. But I found raising kids frustrating after that pack and expansion. If I left my toddler alone expecting daycare to take the child, when I came home the child was sitting in the road down the street or sitting outside the house with needs decayed. I hated the character values from Parenthood, and the annoying infant quirks from GT. I found the milestones a chore, and the slightest thing you did wrong with your child gave them a negative lifelong memory of the parent. I had children with negative feeling toward the parent for having another child! It became so frustrating that I never bought anything after that and quit playing altogether. I went back to Sims 3, and I'm much happier playing that. There will be no Sims 5/Project Renee for me.
I hope they could remake the whole trait lot, it's just annoying that traits are more connected to emtions than to behaviors, but this seems quite impossible considering the efforts they've already put into the programming
Imao the biggest problem is not the lack of open world, but the pointlessness of TRAITs. Sims4 got it completely wrong, it's not emotions that determine what a person is, it's his behavior. In Sims4, all sims seem to be coded to go into a pool of emotions first (angry, flirtatious, playful) and then the emotion determines the next step in behavior, which is why sims of any attribute, regardless of their trait, go and bash up dollhouses after they get angry. Always. Their traits never actually affects the behavior. Also, I saw in the comments of video "the Genius Ai of Sims", a game programmer had mentioned that most of the players of sims4 are story-telling oriented and don't wanna lose control over their own stories. So the company has limited the sims' autonomy to cater to this particular group of fans (e.g., sims don't draw, program, or write on their own accord unless you force them ) Forgive me but i have to say the emotional system SUCKS, EA SUCKS. I've never bought any game that was as awful as sims4. It's painfully shocking that there's no gameplay to speak of in the base game world. No more support for the Sims. That's it.
0:48 instant gaming doesn’t sell sims packs for playstation unfortunately :( i checked last month and again just now and they are not listed for those consoles
I don't think they can get rid of obsolete traits since that would break existing saves. Its not the first Sims game to have inconsistencies introduced by DLCs or updates (the scientist career from Sims 3 doesn't need the science skill), but it is the worst for it largely due to how long its run, how much its changed, and the state it launched in. You could say, if you wanted to list what each Sims game did best and find a positive spin that Sims 4's might be that its the coziest -- while Sims 1 is the most challenging (at least in the early game), Sim 2 the best for rotational play, and Sims 3 the best for playing a single household generationally.
I played every main title Sims here's my take on all 4. The Sims 1 If you can run it due to it's age and over 20 years old as of this post. The game is a different beast, this is the most hardcore of any of the Sims franchise. Some of the activities for today's standard in real can get you cancelled, like the cage dancing. It was a fun experience and doesn't hold your hands. The Sims 2 It might take some work around to run the game on a more modern PCs. This is the best of the franchise, I still play it to this day. Fair warning the game is crazy addictive, so don't forget to check your phone for the time, you don't want to go to work or school with 0 hours of sleep. The game is that immersive and enjoyable. The Sims 3 With a mod installed for Island Paradise to run more smoothly and a little tinkering with high end Pcs. I have found memories with the game and with additional contents from the store, it a lot of fun. Especially my favourite worlds Sunlit Tides, Monte Vista, Lucky Plams and Sunset Valley. Not as addictive but at the same time, not boring. It was made just right. The Sims 4 Just a quick play to have fun, yeah. It did the impossible cured my gaming addiction and made me enjoy real life with my friends and family. I never played past 2 hours. Enough time to be well rested with 4 hours to spare to go to work.
Its also too woke. Not enough masculine clothing, the males don't get prioritized. If they get anything its skinny jeans with colorful tops, patches on the jeans, rolled up at the bottom. Not modern, not masculine.

When I play TS4, I always have a picker wheel tab open on my desktop and a set of dice on my desk (and I'm also considering buying a journal, too.)
I also use chat gpt, sometimes... I just describe the sims' personality and ask the AI suggestions for a scenario to play.
That chat gpt trick is a great idea for spicing up gameplay!
When I was 9 years old, I enjoyed playing the sims 4 because I’ve seen UA-camrs playing it. So I would play it every day. Now I’m 16, and I haven’t even touched the game for years.
No cars no scandals no open world ugh its giving safty net it gives we just want your money it gives not enough it definitely gave rushed
Regarding Sims4 origins:
The fact that NO ONE ASKED for an online multiplayer game was a red flag from EA, then Sims4 being released after only ONE YEAR in development was the second.
It was clear that EA didn't care what players wanted.
Sims3 Store locked items behind a pay wall, but these did not impact your game play if you didn't have them.
Also, they still produced good quality packs (love the future pack).
Bon Voyage required a second purchased due to an install error claiming I was using a backup disc (I was not AND WHY IS THERE A BACKUP DISC IF YOU CAN'T USE IT EA?!!!)
My apologies for the rant.
I agree, I can't see it benefiting our gameplay in any way.
i totally agree but for the "long term" thing i think life&death DLC is a pretty good solution
The Sims 4 needs to bring back the Teen/Adult edge the Sims used to be known for, also screw what other people say. I don't care that it's 2024, that just proves people are pussies now compared to when the Sims 2-3 was made. Back when we KNEW the Sims was aimed at teens but kids would still play it too
I honestly was seeing this a lot with the sims 4 and eventually felt like the game was only good enough to play with mods and cc
*Mods come into clutch...* 💪
There will be no Sims 5/Project Renee for me.
not the El*n M*sk jumpscareeee 😭😭
Why are you starring letters of Elon Musk's name? Lol tf
@@meltedprincessit's a social media thing. people tend to 'censor' things they hate like that
@@meltedprincess He is controversial since he is against the crap UA-cam pushes, maybe.
I hope something good might happen to sims 4
Me too. It feels like a long shot, but it would be nice
That's it.
0:48 instant gaming doesn’t sell sims packs for playstation unfortunately :( i checked last month and again just now and they are not listed for those consoles
this is why in order to have great fun, you need few mods
I still play sims 2
You misspelled broken
I played every main title Sims here's my take on all 4.
The Sims 1
If you can run it due to it's age and over 20 years old as of this post. The game is a different beast, this is the most hardcore of any of the Sims franchise. Some of the activities for today's standard in real can get you cancelled, like the cage dancing. It was a fun experience and doesn't hold your hands.
The Sims 2
It might take some work around to run the game on a more modern PCs. This is the best of the franchise, I still play it to this day. Fair warning the game is crazy addictive, so don't forget to check your phone for the time, you don't want to go to work or school with 0 hours of sleep. The game is that immersive and enjoyable.
The Sims 3
With a mod installed for Island Paradise to run more smoothly and a little tinkering with high end Pcs. I have found memories with the game and with additional contents from the store, it a lot of fun. Especially my favourite worlds Sunlit Tides, Monte Vista, Lucky Plams and Sunset Valley. Not as addictive but at the same time, not boring. It was made just right.
The Sims 4
Just a quick play to have fun, yeah. It did the impossible cured my gaming addiction and made me enjoy real life with my friends and family. I never played past 2 hours. Enough time to be well rested with 4 hours to spare to go to work.
When the sims 4 gets boring, I play the sims 3
The Sims 4 is such a Pile of Trash compared to The Sims 1. Never played the other Games🙁
Its also too woke. Not enough masculine clothing, the males don't get prioritized. If they get anything its skinny jeans with colorful tops, patches on the jeans, rolled up at the bottom. Not modern, not masculine.
clothes are woke now?
Please stop with the bastardisation of the term “woke”. 🙄
ohhh its woke? i thought it was dei now? but regardless each sims game matches the fashion of the era. this is simply whats trendy for guys to wear.
This game is literally unplayable with out mods…🥹
