Fuel or electrical possibly with flat spot. Change o2, iacv and tps (just cause they are a cheap replacement part) if your doing fuel filter. Do the pump aswell. My wags started off when I bought it with flat spots and all sorts of weird shit, could barely drive it home. But started off as fuel due to a few tanks of cleaning out what I believe was shit old fuel in it previously.

It is common for the fuel return like to come off on the vs Ute's because when did the fuel filter and pump on mine, (also had the fuel smell in the cabin), it causes the fuel gasses to build up under the tank and go into the cabin.
It started easier and didn’t run as rough on cold starts. Won’t notice a power difference or throttle response difference unless one of the injectors doesn’t work at all

Gday, recently found your channel... Recently got back on the road after a 28yr hiatus & now trying to get a ute back running again as well... Looking for advice on a more modern plastic fuel tank to fit my VG ute, if possible... Ive replaced everything else at least twice over, but the pressed steel tank is rooted thanks to sitting with ethanol based fuel. Any advice on what igt fit would be greatly appreciated please! Thanks in advance....
Hey mate, as far as I’m aware I’ve never seen a plastic fuel tank for these model cars. You would have to grab another Ute/model tank. Or get yours acid dipped and fry from there. Acid dipping should solve your problem.

Had been hoping a later model plastic tank (if available) of some kind might be made to fit... I had to step away from playing with cars & never kept up with the later (V6) Commies (HQ's to 'Zeds were my thing) so no idea what parts are interchangeable between models... Found out the hard way there was a difference in nearly each of the early models when it comes to lower steering column! :v Anyways, thanks for your time & good luck with yer own projects! ;)
Might have to invest in a new tank! Or maybe cleaning it with 98 petrol a couple of times, Or researching into a chemical you can soak it in yourself. Otherwise depending how mechanically minded you are, you can buy a Plastic VT commodore or similar tank since they are located in around the same spot for the utes ( VU/VY/VZ) And jimmy it up to work.
@@lockstompandsteer Was just starting to search for someone to acid dip the tank for me when I came across 'The Commodore Shop" near Newcastle/Maitland. He freshly had in a (had been) mint VG ute which I scored the tank, pump/sender unit & all the pipework & fittings for $285 so I jumped on it. I asked about later plastic fuel tanks & what might fit & was informed that no Holden utes ever came with a plastic tank... Dunno how true that is, sounds not entirely correct to me, BUT- I now have the ute back up & running again & hopefully will be rego'ed by the end of this week (I HOPE! :v) Also managed to pick up a full set of brake pads for 85- which was a good deal I thought. Posting up a pair of clips shortly for a mate in Svvveden & will drop yers a link too- thanks again for all your help & advice! :D P.S. Thinking I might be up for a new throttle body as it's not dropping back to idle cleanly/holding a high idle- Im guessing a leaky throttle body/butterfly spindle... Picked up some "Start Ya Bastard" tonight to test in the morning ;)
Also have a look at your IAC! ( idle air control ) it could be sticky, worth the 20$ sensor than buying a new throttle body. Could be worn out or even a vacuum leak!
Hey man, I’m replacing my injectors and crank sensor today on my vy. It starts fine but has a shit idle periodically and turns off after the 4th idle. Any idea on what it might be? Timing chain will be next, just hoping it’s not that
There is vacum hose that goes from throtle body to manifold if that has slight leak that can cause shit idle check that the clips that hold spark plug leads could also be a coil pack starting to fail or dodgy key barrel many of possibilitys i had same sorta issue end up workn through the car from ignition barrel to coil packs finialy got it sweet as

Actually better to get someone to redo the orings and sonic blast them instead of doing it yourself. Unless you have a machine to do it. I have a local guy do it for $20 per injector.
Nice one, that should keep it running happy. Next time I would change the fuel filter before putting that old crap through the brand new injectors.

I loved doing injectors on my VR ute. It had the Buick so much more straightforward to change injectors. Only had to undo fuel rail and that's it
i did similiar stuff to my ute and had odd idle on start and i bought a new maf sensor off ebay real cheap and it runs way better and less sluggish
Don't forget to remove fuel pump relay to drain what's in the lines first. Unless you thirsty 🤣

Could be the manifold plenum gaskets causing it to blow smoke I had the same problem with blue smoke and replacing the gaskets fixed it

Always use lubricants that are non petroleum based.
I always use bendix high temp grease for all rubber components.
The degreaser made the seal blow out done the same thing the other day

Check and clean TPS and IAC. Clean throttle body. Make sure all vacuum lines are connected and not split and sensors are connected properly

Bought the shittest injectors on the market be ready to that job again just buy a rebuild kit off ebay and clean original injectors and rebuild
Never had a problem with these injectors. Bought multiple sets. Think it’s valve guides or something else
