When it’s time for a NASA launch, the cameras are often on the astronauts, the space vehicles, and the mission at hand, but behind every launch is a team of hundreds, sometimes thousands, of people who make it possible.
At Space Center Houston, we met one of those hidden figures, space suit technician Sharon McDougle. From her Air Force days suiting up crew on the SR-71 Blackbird, to Mae Jaemison - the first black woman to go to space - we’ll get an up-close look at NASA space suits, life on the ISS, and insights from a woman who is forever a part of space history.

Hi Sharon! I love your background and admire the work you’ve done. Have you ever examined the entry/re-entry suits that Soyuz cosmonauts use? If so, have you noticed any key differences between those and the Shuttle suits? Thank you!
