I accidentally swallowed a fly last week and then my wife told me off for eating between meals. I love the twin clocks best. It's a shame that they are not on all bikes.
Marvelous! I had the 2020 Speed Twin 1200. Great bike and easy to ride. Engine would quit in sport mode as a known issue. I rode it from northern Vermont to Miami. Beginning in 2021 Triumph went with upside down forks. This changed the look and there were no longer fork booties. Handling probably vastly improved. I thought it was good to begin with. Did also have a front brake rotor problem too as a known issue. It was replaced. All of those problems were worked out and redesigned for 2021. And now another big change at present for this model.
I love the twin clocks on my T100, a TFT is doubtless cheaper but looks it too. The new basic Speed Twin lacks too much kit which came standard on the outgoing, better looking model.
Get the current speed 1200 and add new rear shocks and you’ll have a better bike than the new standard model for less money and you get those gorgeous twin clocks, that’s the option I’m looking at 👍
You are 100% correct , thats been my gripe with all the retro Triumph bikes, apart from the Thruxton the suspension is under parr, So they put all the bits off the Thruxton that you wanted on the speed twin, then ruined it with the CLOCK ! 😮, so for me a Thruxton with straight bars would be my choice.
I absolutely love my Speed Twin TAYM, your review encouraged me to buy it as you know. I traded by Yamaha Tracer 9 GT for it and was dubious about whether it was going to be suitable as a touring bike? Our tour of Ireland back in August buried any doubts I had and i loved spending a whole week riding it every day, I absolutely love it and the clocks are iconic I reckon. I loved my Thruxton and was sad to see it go but my wrists just couldn't cope with the strain unfortunately, definitely no wrist ache with the Speed Twin 😃👍
I must admit I prefer the looks of this model to the new RS model. I'm not keen on the "barcode" tank paint scheme and the single digital clock and the price rise! I will have a close look at the new Triumphs when I go to the NEC show. I'm still considering a T100.
Look at the current Stealth edition 1200 Speed Twin. Really nice paint job [better than standard model] and obviously the twin clocks. I would buy the Stealth edition and just buy a good set of aftermarket twin rear shocks for my weight and riding style [Nitron do a nice set]. You will have a better looking bike than the new 2025 Speed Twin. Ok ,you won't have an IMU or quickshifter but do you really need that on a retro?
I'll be keeping my twin clock speed twin - what are they thinking with that new clock, also not a fan of Gold forks on retro styled bikes but I could do with nicking the rear suspension of the RS or a Thruxton though :)
I'm seriously considering picking up a new 2023 since it's my favorite as far as looks. I can put Ohlins on the back , upgrade the oil and springs in the front , and do the usual to get more horses out of it. Any ideas about doing that , or do you have a 2023 that you've upgraded like that ?
Recently test rode the Speed twin 1200, followed by the T100 and preferred the smaller 900cc engine. Despite that a used Thruxton would be my choice of Bonneville, also its a shame the Speed twin is losing the duel analogue clocks. Thanks Mr Taym
Hello Mr T, I always wondered why they didn’t do a Speed Twin RS like they did with the Truxton. I would have got one instead of the Speed Triple RR but I was always put off by the 2nd rate suspension, which I felt didn’t match the rest of the equipment and style. I am tempted to swop the RR for the Speed RS but the clock change is holding me back as I feel it’s another cheap out again. Excellent vid tho thanks please keep up the great work I really appreciate your vids and commentary!
Love my T120 ,I altered the gearing and now I can use sixth gear at sensible speeds....but I agree that the handling needs work. Hopefully I can address that problem shortly. I'd love to know what others have done to sort the handling......
Thanks Stewart 😁 I think tyres are very influential on them and know a lot of people upgrade rear shocks and change the springs and oil in the forks. I know some of the fixes for the snatchy throttle work for some of them but don’t seem to work for all of them. But like I say, none of it is a massive problem as it is. 😁
That's a great video of the bike as I'd like to be in the position of buying one,, also the BMW 9T but think it would be the triumph,, with the engine configuration and power,,☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland getting a lottery ticket,, increase the garage and contents 🙂🙂🙂🙂
Triumph don't you just love them, took out the T120 and it was the handling that put me of a bit it was ok but not great, finished up buying the speedmaster must say handling wasn't that much better than the T120 but the look of the speedmaster well just beautiful also very, very comfortable had the bike 20 months now ( from new) and ❤ it.
I've been breaking the wind for years, it's an age thing. How much power is enough i feel is also an age thing because as you get older you just can't handle or need a lot of power anymore, or is that just me, my Eliminator suits me fine now.
In the states, it’s a candy apple. Ergo the candy apple red paint popular in the custom car culture. A gold or silver base coat with a translucent red over the top mimicking the candied apple itself.
Breaking wind on a big bike sounds so beneficial 😁😁. I think that the Speed Twin 1200 would taste like a whole box of Mr Kipling's cakes. Tremendous fun 👍👍.
I'd love a new speed twin but my local dealer has ceased trading (gone bust) and it's now difficult for me to access servicing and after market support. I thought Triumph were doing well selling Speed 400's ?
Thanks G 😁 I assume you are near Nottingham 🤔 if you are referring to Pinnocks, they were a multi franchise I dealer. Very sad, I think they have found someone to save the BMW side but not the rest😕 I wonder how many others will go 🤔
@TAYM Yes, it was Pidcocks, I purchased my street twin from them about four years ago. They were based in Long Eaton. I later downsized to a Yamaha mt 03. I just hope my local Yamaha dealer rides the storm out. (did you see what I did there). Love your channel BTW.
It's a lovely looking bike TAYM and I did want one until I rode it , but for me it was so uncomfortable next to the T120 which kind of hacked me off in a way . Now I find that in the real world the T120 has plenty of everything for me but yes the Speed has better brakes and the back brake on my T120 is nowhere near as good as my old XJR was imo . So the new one will only have one clock like the Speed 900 then hmm not a good move imo , ahh ha TAYM so you took it back early that's just what I did when I road it 😂 (kidding ) .👌👍
@TAYM , unfortunataly the footpegs are a bit behind the ideal spot to me and it changes the angle of my legs. Luckily there is no such problem on my Bonnie. I can see your point, this posture can be helpful over 80mph but luckily for me, as I don't speed anymore, the more upright position is also not a problem. And I also agree that the T100 is enough for the real world, and if you buy a bike with a 1200ccm engine the whole bike has to be built adequatly. But the T100 is built kinda okayish for that amount of torque. All the best for 2025!
