- Just recently, Apple showed off its entire line of MacBooks with the M3 chip (M3 MacBook AIR and M3 MacBook Pro). However, it is already clear that the Apple's chip update is not far off. Very soon, in 2024 Apple will show a completely new series of MacBooks with a new generation of M processors. Is it worth waiting for the novelty, or will the M3 MacBook be enough? Or maybe the M1 Pro is enough? Let's find out!

Don't buy the M4 MacBooks ... just wait until late 2025 and buy the M5 MacBooks ... don't do that either. Wait until 2026 ... and you'll always be waiting for the "perfect time" to buy a new computer. Buy one when it makes sense for you!
Ah shalap
Exactly! Just pretty much commented the same thing. So annoying.. wait… no wait gain.
Really could just buy a decent spec M1 Pro variant and call it a day. I’m waiting on a good price m2 pro myself though. Colors suck since you only get two options.
😂
Noted thanks 😃
UA-camr after the M4 release : Don't buy Macbook M4, buy M3 or M2 instead.
Exactly 😂
as always.
That's perfectly valid, the price drops, still a smarter choice if you're not in a rush to get a laptop like right now
💯
Boring crab video
Damn if I keep waiting I’ll never get a MacBook
they ALWAYS say don’t buy it yet and then when the new one drops don’t buy that one because next year will be a bigger upgrade
Why not get a real Mac PC, leaving fingers of a Laptop? 😅
😃You have a point.
i just got my 1 mac m1 aiir.. at big discount.
@sku_101 lol where? I wanna buy an m3 air. btw I wouldn't buy an iMac regular pcs with amd GPU are way better for gaming etc. And other things
It’s confirmed!!! The new M4 lineup will come with 512 mb RAM
not 32kb?
I think it's 8 gigabits.
That had BETTER be 512 gigabytes of max unified memory in the M4 Max Macbook Pro, and an 18 inch MacBook Pro variant, or they are shooting themselves in the feet without competitive pricing, after the $200.00 upcharge to the customer, per 8 GB RAM fiasco Apple has to untangle.
As a PC person, I remain very impressed by most of Apple Silicon, but it just needs way more gaming support to match PC, Apple Silicon is more than capable of next generation gaming today, at the same level of the modern PC, with the right optimizations and more importantly Apple, real triple AAA video games for the Macintosh, with real third party support and real AI support and real path tracing support.
Apple cannot afford to ignore gaming any longer.

Remember, the 90% of users are just running office suite, web browsing, YT procrastination and maybe a little bit of coding. Do you need all the “upgrades”? I had just updated my 2015 MacBook Pro for an 15 inch M2 Air. It is just perfecto for what I do and I am a data scientist.
What configurations did u get? Which model/config would u recommend for a CS undergrad student?
@@umairx25 M2 15 inch Air/ 16 ram and 512 SSD. It is perfect and delivers for me. I believe that due to the M3 you might find good deals on the M2. I used to have a 2015 pro as a student, it was quite a machine but as I stated, not everybody is editing 4K videos or use n chrome tabs at the same time. Don’t get me wrong, both are great but in my view it is unnecessary to go for the pro if you are not using your computer for full time editing.
@@umairx25 I was on a budget so I bought the 8ram / 256 ssd. I’m sure that most of the fanboys would argue that 8gb of ram is not enough… and the ssd is slow. And again, I am not editing videos I am doing research as well as some tasks as data scientist and it is enough. If you are on a budget it is great, and one last thing. Sometimes I think that the 15 inch is too large, so probably, if you want portability an 13 inch would suit you better.
@@jrm7125 how are you interacting with the data? Not locally I assume, unless the data set is quite compact?
I just bought the m3 air 16gb of ram and 512 SSD it is a bit large but for me it more portable than the pro so that's why I went with it. I also like the midnight color that isn't offered in the pro. This is just for school and some 3d modeling. Don't keep waiting for next greatest thing because you'll never have anything.

Honestly don't know why they want to do a yearly upgrade. The M2 and M3 Macs (and even the M1 Macs - rocking an m1 MBP myself) are incredible - don't know what they can improve on in just a few months.
They need sales and profit. It’s the trend with any technology.
If you don’t improve, innovate, copy and release each year a new model? Then you go down.
That’s what happend to many big companies in tech.
On the other hand it’s not needed, look at old tv’s, fridge, washingmachine, they still work 50 years later. The light bulbs from 100+ years ago still work.
You see the trend?
You need to consume preferable each year so they make max profit.
I just bought me an M1 air for 650. AWESOME machine, love it.
You realize not everyone bought the M1, M2, or M3, right? Why WOULDN'T they release a new model every year for those who ARE in the market? Are you equally confused why auto manufacturers release a new and improved model every year?
@@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYouit’s simply and purely a matter of profit as not about innovation as the “improvements are incremental

What about intel users?
You should wait until your device is RIP 🫵💀 @@NCHLTII
@@NCHLTII If you're upgrading from an intel you'll see a MAJOR performance upgrade....if you're already on an M series already it won't be as much as a performance upgrade like coming from an Intel Mac.....and it depends on what you use your Mac for. If you're doing really cpu intensive 3d animation and rendering or something like After effects projects with a ton of layers etc...youll want to get the highest performance you can get....but if you're doing something like audio production , you dont need to wait to buy an M4, Im on an M3 Max but and M1 Max would actually be enough but coming from an Intel I just went for the M3 Max because I probably won't need to upgrade for a long time unless I want to get into all the AI features apparently coming but I'm not really interested in having AI deeply integrated in my Mac right now.
I have a 2016 MacBook Pro Touchbar with 8GB of Ram and 256GB of storage. It‘s my first MacBook I ever bought and already faster than my Windows Laptop. I thought about upgreading to an M1 MacBook Air, but the most intensive thing I do is playing Minecraft… Does it make sense? (Touchbar and Keyboard where almost new when I bought it a year ago and haven’t failed) My biggest hope of an upgrade would be the battery life, as I want to use my MacBook in school more often (in Pages my MacBook has about 2-4 hours of battery time).
Should I get a 16" m3 for 3100 USD? I am sick of windows
Will the newer chips improve on cooling efficiency or will they keep getting hotter? How about this security vulnerability issue that’s been going around on forums, is that getting sorted?
what security issues? pass the link or disappear
Neural Engine doesn't do anything for actual "AI" processing like LLM, Stable Diffusion, etc as they only run on GPU
Do you advise me to buy a MacBook M3 Pro if I specialize in architecture, such as using rendering programs and 3D programs such as Revit?
Bulltshit titel. And dont buy a m4 bceause the m5 is releasing in 12 months. Oh and dont buy the m5 because the m6 is coming 12 months later.
Buy if you need a new computer. Just dont buy if you are like 3 months away and your current computer is dying.
literally, just buy if you really need it.
Wait till the neuralink update
I just bought a M2 and I don't think I'll regret it
Hi Arthur, you have convinced me to wait for the M4 MacBook Pro! May I ask which MacBook stand you are using in the video? Keep up the good work
I have an "old" M2 Macbook Air and I have no need to upgrade until 2026 or if I do it I will go for a M3 Pro. I know my needs and my bank account. I don't buy a Mac following the hype but following my usage...so let's wait for the M5 or M6 a few months later 😂😂
That's where I'm at too
Same here. I got the M2 base model and it works smooth as butter. The M1 was just as good. As long as they can't make the new Macs gaming beasts, then their is no need really to upgrade.
Same here, I have an M2 Air.
I still have my old Air 2015 11" 8gb 512gb, bought in early 2018 preowned. Dinky little thing. Good enough for several things still and for the train when I prefer to leave the expensive m2 at home. It'll go out of OS support before long and at that point I'll put the excellent Zorin OS Pro on it. All the things I do on it are cross platform anyway. The M2 is for all that but faster and for getting into iOS development which has to be on a mac and a recent one preferably.
can I get the link to the macbook pro stand in this video please ?
Realistically it’s what you do with it more than what it is. Just don’t get base spec storage
why not ? Just get an external ssd and setup a NAS at home
That’s ridiculous 8 GB of RAM and 250 GB storage. As excited as I am for the M4 and AI I’m not buying that overly expensive computer with those low numbers. That’s a rip off! People and youtubers keep excusing them too.
Imagine a new M4 MacBook pro with 8 GB of Ram this should be absolutely ridiculous especially for the price of these machines.

Hey Arthur,
I’ve been a long time MacBook Pro user, and have used my mid-2010 17” 8gb RAM 750gb HD model since the day it was released. It recently died after a very sluggish couple of months and I need to upgrade to something significantly better and newer than what I had. I work primarily with Adobe Photoshop and After Effects for comparatively basic video work and need something that can be upgraded (should I need to) and, of course, I am unable to wait for anything M4 to be released. Is there a current M3 model you might recommend for me?
Hey man, depends on how demanding your workload is, its worthwhile to get atleast 16 gigs of ram, if not more, and an m3 pro will suffice, i'd say look at the 12 core option
What would be better M3 pro or X Elite?
I don't want OLED in the Macbook. The mini led Retina display in the pro models is bright and has amazing contrast
Will that make macbook air’s cheaper?
Because im buying macbook air m2. So should i wait?
No. The MacBook Air just got refreshed with the M3 chip not even 2 months ago so it will be awhile before the Air gets refreshed again
What about the M's vulnerability from the past versions? Apple solved this on M4?
Apple WANTS you to lust after their next thing. But your current device, unless it’s really old, is good enough. Be content. Don’t fall into the Apple trap.
Bought a Macbook Air M1 from Walmart for $699. Good enough!
would they lower the price? or make price higher?
I'll wait to 2030 when they launch the M10
Wish the 15" Macbook Pro was a thing again. 14" is too small and 16" is mahoosive.
I completely agree. 15” with the small bezels is the perfect size.
Nah, 14" with small bezels and without the notch is more than enough. 15" is practically a 16"
- If you want ultra portability or have very basic use requirements, get an MBAir
- If you want a portable everyday device you can use anywhere, get the 14" MBPro minimum 16GB
- If you need a portable professional workstation primarily for desk/tabletop use, then get the 16" MBPro minimum 16GB
IMHO 14" is the max size for a "use anywhere", everyday backpack carry and lap/couch/bed streaming duties, etc.
16" is too unwieldy for small swing out lecture desks, convenient daily backpack carry for students, or lap use when on public transport. The old 15" was also too big despite apparent thickness from the tapered design; uni students I knew with 15" regretted the decision and didn't always carry their mac. Two purchased iPads for note-taking which meant their expensive 15" MBPro's were essentially relegated to desktop duties
My M1 Pro barely used over 10% CPU usage.
Meanwhile people who actually want to buy a functioning device - buys a device when they need one
Wonder if it will feature the crazy OLED screen from the iPad Pro 2024 ??
The release of the M4 Pro/MAX is worth waiting for if you want to buy M2-M3 Pro/MAX after they become cheaper
I just want the MagSafe & no screen notch.
I regret getting the M3 air, the battery life is just horrible!!! last for about 6 hours while my previous M1 air can last for 2 days with the same usage,
I just purchased MBA M3 with 16GB/512SSD. Will it worth to wait for MBA M4 or my purchase will survive until 2029?
There will always be something better to wait for. You M3 MBA will likely serve you well for several years,
I'm still using my 2010 MacBook Pro 13".
I’m using a mid 2012, 16GB/1TSSD pro. I work on it remotely full-time. Your M3 might take you to 2035 and beyond.
The keyboard looks crazy!
Imagine a base M4 Macbook Pro with OLED and 16GB of RAM that would be heaven.
Where are the discounts , since it’s the MacBook 40th anniversary? Probably we’re expecting a price increase for RAM……..

8gb of ram will be ridiculous this year, like it was last year, and the year before, and the year before, and you can go on, yes they are gonna be nuts…

I Find iPad’s to be much more versatile than Mac’s…thus giving me more options as far as my use case goes!! I love my M1 12.9” pro but definently plan on trading in for the new 13” M4 iPad Pro this year!
Rumor has it M7 MBP will be powered by mini fusion reactor with 20 year battery life 😅

OMG. I hate these wait don’t buy now since the new hotness is coming. If I listened to these forewarnings then I would never get anything, clutching onto whatever super old tech I have since I need to wait just a bit longer for the next best thing since I might regret it otherwise. Then when it does come out the cycle starts again. Sigh. Just get stuff as you need it. I’m not saying upgrade every year or so, that’s dumb too.
They’ll raise the price for “AI features” yet I, like many, have no use for it.
Marc Gurnmann or how ever you write him doesn’t said anything about a OLED display. So don’t think that this will be coming

Oled would be nice, but we all know apple’s “revolutionary upgrade” will be AI and stuff on the chip enabling it. - none of which I even want. I think I speak for all of us- ALL we want is increases base storage and ram- OR decreased storage upgrade costs. Even the average consumer can look at 256gb or 500g and be turned off when windows machines costing half as much have twice as much storage. It’s basic simple numbers. And it’s not even expensive for apple to do. I really think they’d break even, Or even gain more profit than the upgrade would cost them. Only getting a 2gb ram upgrade with M3 was laughable, especially considering there was no upgrade with M2. If they did 2gb every single year then that would be one thing- but if it’s 2gb every 2 years.. I mean come on. M4 pro should start with 24g ram/1TB ssd. I don’t even care about chip speed that’s already impressive. I’ll gladly take just a 5% chip boost if it means I get those other things for the same $2k starting price.
What about MacBook Pro M4 Extreme? They confirmed this.
OLED does not have professional grade colour. There are no reference grade monitors using OLED due to inaccurate colour and the lack of an accurate white balance. OLED can’t be calibrated as the slightest change to the viewing angle alters the white balance

M3's are more focused on efficiency than the previous generations so they don't have as high of performance but they also last longer per charge. The M4's are likely to be faster than the M2's AND have more tensor cores which are designed for AI integration.
Naaah, wait for the M5. They will be better at the performance related tasks and better in the efficiency department too. Actually wait for the M6, that’s where the real upgrades will take place.

Just marketing. The M chip numbering is arbitrary and defined by Apple themselves, to my mind. The criteria to increment the number does not have foundation in technical specification bur rather marketing. They could have called the new chip in the iPad the M3 Ultra, for example. Calling the chip in the new iPad the M4 is to create the perception of leaping even further ahead and to persuade that the new product is more than just incremental improvements. I'd expect the benchmarks of the produce with the M4 will be a significant improvement on the previous, as they claim and the new functionalities such as the multi-screen filming and accessories like the Pencil Pro to be distinct improvements. But all of these could have still happened if the chip was just called M3 Ultra or something else.
When will the Air and the Pro get touch screens? Seems a huge omission.
touching the screen is the last thing I’ve ever wanted to do.. ever. Fingerprints. Smudges. The trackpad is right there where your thumb can reach without even taking the hands off the keyboard. Why do you wana move your hand? More work. Why create smudges? More work. Senseless.
I only just got my first Macbook in March. Before that, my last 3 laptops have been touchscreen Windows computers. It's not a feature I find myself missing.
Hopefully never. Touchscreens on laptops are SO stupid. My laptop has a touch screen, and I literally never use it.
