- Just got my JVM back from www.restlessrepair.com had tubes changed to all JJ tubes. Plexi Mod, Negative Feedback Mod, Mercury Magnetics Output Transformer installed. Only effect is a little reverb from my TC Electronic G-Force.
Wow, that lick and tone at 10:00 is amazing! Great playing!
You play great brother I have the jvm 210h with the mercury magnetics
You totally blew me away with that wicked riffing man! Also loved your amp tone. You rock man!
I know this is a video from a while ago but God Damn that is one of the best tones I've ever heard!
Lucas Mastropasqua yes. Its the tone I always wanted. I have sense bought a second head and modded it.
That's awesome man, that's all we can hope for is to get the tone we've been searching for. I'm in the process of modding the shit out of a jca100hdm. If I get half way to where you are at I'll be happy. Lol
I instantly picked up that Thin Lizzy Cold Sweat moment. That head sounds so good it should be outlawed.
Best Marshall I've ever heard. Great playing too my man.
Great playing mate and that tone... OMG.... its a MONSTER! Rock on!
WOW!! You and that JVM totally ROCK man :) I sooo have to get those mods done to my own JVM...that tone monster of yours is totally killer. Thanks for the inspiration Shawn.
Great playing - also the amp sounds superb!
Wow that is one kick ass Marshall. I have just got myself a JVM205h and these sounds have made me want to mod it right away.......! If it comes anywhere close I will be happy.
Could be me, but that sounded a lot better than the stock JVM...
Just a tish! Lol
Badass riffing, killer tone. good job.
Best riffing on this amp. Tank you helped me go for the jvm
Awesome tone. Wouldn't change a thing. Mic'd thru a PA this would sound even better. Thanks for sharing! Great playing too !!
Yep pretty rocking, I've only done the feedback mod on mine that in itself makes a good difference.
Sounds awesome and full bodied with good bottom, mids and highs. JCM 800ish mellowed some. My fav is warm and wooley bottom, pushed mids and crispy highs.
Dark yeller mode FTW! LOL. Great sounding amp man.
Awesome tone i have a jvm 205h want it to sound like this great playing
killer sound man, thx for sharing; know this is an old video but definitely subscribed.
Me 2!!!! My 6505/mesa is crying for this as it's stereo twin.....killer
This is by far the best review of this amp modded or not. It shows how it sounds proper with a 4x12 in a room and not a processed track that sounds like everything else out there. Sounds great
10:35 damn love that kinda tone reminds me of zakk wylde
Nice playing and keep rocking bro 🤘🏻
Damm!!! BADASS you rock man! awesome gear in the right hands = YOU
LOVE THE LOUDNESS BRO!!!! SEEN THEM TWICE AKIRA TAKASAKI IS A BEAST A YOU ROCK TOO I GOT THE GUYS INFO WHO DID THE MODS IM GONNA EMAIL THEM FOR PRICES THANX!!!! YOU ROCK!!!
Man that sounds killer! If I had those mods I probably wouldn't have sold mine - might get another one now and try to hit you up to find out where you got those mods 🤘
I’m fixing to buy one of these. I like the mod. Sounds great and so does your guitar playing. Maybe you can guide me on how to put the same mod in mine when I get it.
Great! I'm playing many of these licks also.
Awesome what a great sound
Did basically the same thing to my '98 JCM 2000 DSL100, but used Classic Tone transformers and choke. I get a tone from Akira Takasaki to Wolf Hoffmann.
Badass playing
Sounds great
Amp sounds awesome and your playing is excellent as well. What was he biggest difference you noticed when you had the choke and output xformer put in?
Shawn: “Sorry if this sucks.”
- Proceeds to rip your face off with shock and awe - 😅
wow!!! it sounds like a monster!!!
What did they do to the negative feedback loop?
I've upgraded my JVM 205H with Mercury Magnetics input and output transformers with choke. Night and day difference.
Good job mater.
this sounds incredible..roughly how much was this mod and what was an appropriate turn around time?
I'd love to get more info on these mods. Consider doing it to mine. I'm on the fence in selling and buying a BE-100.
How much did the Mod cost?
Absolutley awesome!!! It got his amazing midrange just out of the negative feedback and plexi mod or it has any more mods?
What the negative feedback mod does?
Hey did any of these mods help with noise? Are you using a gate?
Great player you'd probably make any amp sound good
mindofown Tone is in the fingers!!!
You certainly have tone in your fingers!!
Thanks for the compliment!!!
What kind of JJ'S are you using in this beast?
Mind blown!
Are mercury magnetics a brand or a type of transformer? If it is just a type what brand is the transformer you used? I recently purchased a plexi modded Marshall jvm 205h and would like to upgrade the transformers and the tone you are getting here is basically the ideal tone I would like to get.
Nick McAllister yes a mercury magnetics is a output transformer. That have the correct one on there site or you can call them.
Hi Shawn. I just got a 205h. Is it possible to have the mods you got on your 410H done to the 2 channel version? Your playing is inspiring. Thank you!
Lefty Zappa absolutely. They have the same circuit. Thank you! That’s very kind of you.
Nice tone and playing , what speakers are you using what values did you use for the NFB circuit , what did you do for the plexi mod you refer to was it a bypass cap
Stock Speakers. GT75's
What cab/speakers are you going in to?
Sounds great! Should call it the Randy Rhoads Mod. That's what it was sounding like. Awesome tone and playing!! That dirty clean tone your getting it freaking Incredible!!!!!!
what mods would you recommend for playing aggressive modern metal / death metal . I like the JVM tone , just looking to make it better (less noise feedback more balls) . Not after hard rock AC/DC type tone , love that but have some more extreme projects for the JVM . This demo sounds awesome.
Annihilation Maximization add a choke, helps with noise. Plexi mod made mine more aggressive and the negative feedback control that way you can tighten up the bottom end.
Annihilation Maximization you have to remember my gain isn’t past 9 or 10 o’clock
@@DSTaylor69 thanks . I will check out plexi mod. I have cut back my gain from 9 or 10 to about 6 (1 oclock) . for me thats a big step :-) there is just so much gain.....
is your negative feedback mod variable?
what about that silver jublee in your bench. how does it stack up against the 410? or jcm800, if you got one on hand?
hevechvy jubilee is a totally different animal . Awesome in its own way. The jvm has more gain and is more versatile than the jubilee.
Sick!!
I'm never playing guitar again and throwing all my gear in the garbage.
The negative feedback mod is a necessity. It makes it sound a lot more like a 2203.
Whats the Negative feedback resistor value you´d suggest ?
Hi Shawn, I love the video. I am curious as to what the output transformer mod does. I have a jvm 210h that I am looking to mod to really turn it into something more special than it already is
The Mercury magnetics output transformer and the 10h choke really open the amp up. It's such a sonic difference just that alone will make a amp you love leave you saying HOLY HELL!
Thanks mate, I'm going to have to try those out!
Hey man, badass playing!! got myself also a moded jvm, sounds killer! which JJ tubes did you put in? greetz from austria
Muerte Muchete just JJ’s tried the gold ones wasn’t impressed. Svetlana’s sound good too. The cheapest JJ’s hold up well and sound awesome.
Muerte Muchete And Hello Austria thanks for watching.
thx for your answer Shawn ... think i´ve got svetlana´s in it ... sounds a bit colder in my opinion, but haven´t tried it with the mercury output tranny, which my tech has put in a few day´s ago... did you recognize a change in tone when you put the the mercury transformer in?
Muerte Muchete YES! The mercury magnetics tranny gives new life to your amp. I assume he biased the tubes? Even if people don’t want to mod their JVM a mercury magnetics transformer is a definite WHAT!
What solo are you playing at 3:14? sounds like a randy rhoads type of riff
Josh Wilson that just some blues scale thing in G.
What speakers are in the cab?
GT75's
Nice. Never heard an un modded Marshall I liked except Eddie van Halen.. His were completely stock.
Lee Jackson was king of 80's.tone and mods on these amps.
But ill neve pay a Marshal price when he built amps that sounded like this without spending so much on an amp then almost as much for the mods.
Thats insanity.
And vanity.
This is what the JVM should have been !!!
This is a whole new level of geekery
thats a raging tone. I bought a stock jvm because thats essentially what I'm after. I was also considering a jubilee reissue, ironically enough. How would you say you're jubileee compares to a modded jvm? On the other hand, a jvm is mostly preamp gain, so it sounds good on low vol, while a jubilee is "old school", where you need to crank the piss out of it to get your money's worth. That doest bode well if you're a bedroom warrior haha.
Phil Smith lol. Too me jvm is good at low volumes. Jubilee not so much. Plus no need for pedal to drive the jvm. I always have to stick a tubescreamer in front of the jub
Are they still in business? Cabtvseem to find them online
The Marshall JVM line saves the Marshall name, says I. The tone you recorded is reminiscent of walls of 100 watt Marshalls behind shure 57 mics relaying that glorious sound through monster sound systems in a stadium somewhere.
el guitardo I totally agree. Best Marshall i've owned besides my 1987 Jubilee 2555
man this video has gotten many ppl off lol!! do you know what value the negative feedback mod is? and what value the choke is? playing is superb bro!!
Do the new ones also need the mods or they’ve improved over time??
As far as I know they’re the same. The JVM Js has the choke. And that’s about it
Don’t get me wrong JVM sounds killer without the mods.
Shawn Taylor
Mines stock. Got it last year new. I just started putting a pedal in front... Xotic’s ac booster/comp. and it’s not bad.
What song is that at 11:30?
what song are you playing at 5:50??? motley crue? I cant seem to put my finger on it haha
Whitesnake. Still of the night.
Fastway - Say What You Will. Great riff.
John Sykes is the man
You have photos of the transformers? Good video
Yeah send me a email to dstaylor69@gmail.com and I’ll send them
What do you mean by "having to re-think the equalization"?
MrJohnnyDistortion Well the Plexi mod changed the mids to more high mids. So I had to pull back the treble and fine tune the mids. Also the negative feedback mod made this amp a lot louder. So what I was meaning was I had to rethink it from the the way I use to set it.
Shawn Taylor That's what I thougt but I wanted to know for certain where and what the new changes were. It sounds incredible. Do I hear a Wah-Wah in line? Anything else between the guitar and amp in this demo? Thanks for answering my probing questions. I'm looking to have mods done on a TSL or DSL and these are the qualities I'm after. Thanks again Shawn.
MrJohnnyDistortion For that Demo is was straight into the head with a TC Electronics G-Force in the Loop with some chorus and reverb. And the gain was only set on about 10:00
Any attenuator?
Moacyr Eduardo nope
You should look at a Marshall Major .....The sound of the literal gods....benn playing for 30 years ...never ever heard anything better... I got one on a trade at first just thought I had a great one now I own 2 and just missed another..The people who say they are unreliable or this and that are f******** fools....
...Look it up from one brother too another....The tone search will be over.................U-ROCK ...OUT.......
Shawn, What's preamp tubes?
JJ's... In the preamp section and in the power amp section also.
I did the same mods you did, but comes to me choke marc 100c? What do you say about this choke? Do you prefer this choke or H10?
It's a 10h.
what pickups in guitar ? what speakers in cab?
Gibson 500t
Celestion gt1275's
THANKS :D It sound really reat. I would be nice to hear those moods also on v30 :D
Has the filtering been altered
You would need to email John@restlessrepair.com he did all the mods to this head.
Is that Zakk Wybeer?
makemoneyrelax lol
What pickups are in the LP?
Gibson 500t and a 496r in the neck.
Shawn Taylor Afterv I asked my question I heardyou mention that at the end. DOH! Watching your Wolf riffs right now. R & R.
Awesome ! lol !
Did I hear some Tesla riffs in there around the 2:45 mark?
Yep you did.
😳🙌👏
Was it pretty expensive to get this stuff done.
Austin Bilbro The Mercury Magnetics Output transformer and the choke were the biggest cost. The mods themselves were fairly inexpensive. The transformer was $249 and the choke was $48 but the mods are what made the amp.
Shawn Taylor that's not bad actually I looked around ill be giving him a call soon
You have an idea on how much the mod costed
Shawn can we get a Vibrato lesson?
Michael McGlenn I guess I could try.
@@DSTaylor69 ua-cam.com/video/oxFUnwfllQo/v-deo.html. This is where I'm at. More of a fast nervous Paul Kossoff kind of vibrato. I want to make it Wider like yours. So things like hand position, anchor pivot points...etc. Thanks! Btw...you are my biggest guitar inspiration now!
WOW
your not warmed up? I HATE YOU :)
you should get that zoom camera with the microphone's on it and put it just to the side of where you are at, 4/12 is so directional you killin it with the high end. a lot of great guitar players got it done with a lot less amp than you have there,,
great demo on the jvm mod's,,
Thanks.
Awesome video - great tone and playing - I have a modded tsl 100. Sounds killer
+Shawn Taylor Sounds Great What was that ARS song @ 4:38 in? Thats one of the Best Riffs I heard a guy play that once as a kid blew my mind. I gotta learn that lick.
+Watchman4u that's fastway say what you will.
Shawn Taylor Thx thats why I couldn't find it. I never got into Fastway. Thats a great lick tho.
+Watchman4u when you said ARS I thought you meant Homesick
What wah is it?
Lucas Mastropasqua 100
What's the 100 wah?
Oh lol I know it's 100 watts I meant which wah pedal you using? Cheers man
No offence but I think the mods are a waste of hard earned money. My JVM 410H from 2008 sounds just like this and is factory original. The tone is in your fingers and I swear my head sounds exactly like the one you are playing through. Maybe in person it would be a little different...I dunno. But if you are watching this video and are thinking about modding your amp, save yourself some big time cash. The only way too sound like this is to learn how to play like this. True story!
RoboRocker69 non taken I tell people if you like it out of the box don’t mod. My guitar player has a stock jvm. And he loves it. But in person there’s a huge difference. More plexi type mids. Very open. The negative feedback mod alone makes a big difference. Would I play a jvm right out if the box?Hell yeah. Best amp Marshall ever made. Channel 1 is more fender vox cleans. Channel very plexi Red channels more useable not over saturated. I say to each his own and yes tones in the hands of the beholder
Yeller
Still sounds fizzy !
Ed Berger Camera had a lot to do with that.
