    Pokémon’s best game experiences were the unexplained, and incredibly confusing locations. I felt so stressed and anxious exploring the caves and buildings that had puzzles or storyline’s that had no explanation and were designed to discombobulate the player.
    That’s what’s missing from the new games, the intense mystery, the unexplained, the unpredictable twists and turns. Everything is so predictable, there’s no mystery, and personally I think that’s due to either lack of creativity (and outsourcing) or simply trying to attract a younger audience by making everything incredibly easy.
    Also, it confuses me when they claim the game to be design for children and yet the dialogue in the game is never ending. As a kid playing Pokemon it took me so long just to understand a few lines let alone a whole 7 minute conversation 😂 if they wanted all of that dialogue and to cater to children, they should really consider voice acting (and a skip dialogue but give me the cliff notes option)

      @Testostyronne  8 місяців тому +1

      Damn, hit the nail on the head. I never really thought about the lack of mystery in the later games but you're spot on. Also the dialogue is honestly the worst and again, I never thought about how bad it is for kids. Such a weird choice 😂

    The one thing I perhaps regret about Gen 1 is being a bit too young to understand it's impact. I was 6 when it came out, and to the best of my recollection I never really had visceral reactions to the things like the above just because they went over my head. Did I understand that the Pokemon Mansion was the abandoned burned out lab where Mewtwo was created? Yes, but I truly didn't understand what that *MEANT* , the context that that would entail. I truly believe that Gen 1 when you get into the nitty and gritty of it is the some of the Darkest Pokemon has been.

      100% agreed! As I mentioned in the video, this place really did scare me as a kid (I think I was about 8 years old), but revisiting as an adult gave added context that justified my feelings as a kid. Truly gives me chills.

    I've never felt unsettled by the Pokémon Mansion, but I do find it really curious that one location in the series with a weird unethical cloning lab just happened to be annihilated by a volcano not long after the monster they created escaped. Maybe the monster returned and made the volcano erupt.

    To me the scariest thing of this place is not kust how big and empty it is, but how similar that makes every room look. I always thought Id be lost forever in there; thinking I'd never be able to find my way out just because everything looks the same.
    Very good video ❤. This place deserves more love

    As unsettling the place was i loved Cinnabar Mansion. It has a aura of mystery and even more undiscovered mysteries from what we already know.
    That and New Island on Mewtwo Strikes Back kinda sets the tone of what Mewtwo end up becoming and the experiments done on that island thus becoming my favorite place in all the movies.

    It could be a coincidence but after messing around with Missingno too much, I found that my game would often glitch out and freeze while walking from the mansion entrance to the first stairs. Coupled with the music, the idea of Missingno on the island and the barren feeling of the mansion made it a pretty creepy place for me as a kid.

    I felt the exact same way as you. I love this area now though lel.
    To me, what's creepy about this place is that its a more realistic type of horror. Not ghosts or demons, but the horror of men playing gods with nature and genes, and being destroyed by their megalomania. Failing to contain the power of the abomination they created and realizing it too late.

    • @Testostyronne
      @Testostyronne  8 місяців тому +1

      Oh man, that's such a great point. Lavender Town is so in your face and doesn't strike the same chord as Pokémon Mansion. The mind is left to wander as to what actually went on here and the implications are pretty disturbing.

    One thing you didn't mention that I found interesting are the subtle hints that Mr Fuji and Blaine were scientists that worked on creating Mewtwo. As a kid, I loved the idea that Mr Fuji once worked for Giovanni and possibly wrote the creepy diary entires. It was pretty much confirmed in pokemon origins which took a bit of the mystery away.

    • @Testostyronne
      @Testostyronne  7 місяців тому

      I thought about talking about Mr. Fuji, but I wanted to stick to what the game itself shows and to my knowledge and research, I couldn't find any nod to it. Honestly the whole premise of Mewtwo's backstory can go down a huge rabbit hole, but I felt that took away from Pokémon Mansion a bit too much and focused on Mewtwo, which wasn't the aim of this video.

    I do remember this being creepy as a kid, far more unsettling that the Pokemon Tower. I do think it was the music and large open spaces with little decoration that did it. Everywhere else in the game has some kind of furniture or is cramped but not this place.

    In real life, cloned animals are usually born through the same means as uncloned animals, so it's odd that Mewtwo was born, not because clones aren't born, but because Mew should lack the anatomy to give birth.

      @@Testostyronneyou can say it takes away the mystery, however it's just a proposed parallel story to the Kanto storyline, a theory if you may. I also played it and highly recommend it, it connects a lot of dots and brings a whole new perspective while keeping the original experience intact. Even some things you could see as plot holes in the original story get an explanation and gain a new sense.

    It's been so long since I've played a Gen 1 game that i don't even really remember the Pokemon Mansion despite watching hours and hours of Pokemon content every week, because you're right, no one really talks about it even though it's a key dungeon. Your video made me want to go back and replay Gen 1 in a way no video has in a while.

      Wow that's a huge compliment, thank you! I had to basically speed run a playthrough just to record the footage and it made me wish I could just slow down and take it all in more 😂 Still, even as an adult and purely being there to record footage, I still found myself being freaked out. The part at 2:04 about the dead end rooms genuinely took me off guard. I walked in and yelled, "What's the point of this room?!" Something I never noticed as a kid gave me something new to be scared of about this place. I even checked every tile for an item... nothing. Gen 1 might be overrated, but that don't mean it's bad. I definitely wanna play through properly too.
